View Full Version : American Idol
Patrick 03-14-2005, 02:37 PM One of the singers voted off American Idol last week will be back for the competition this week. It appears Mario Vazquez had to leave the show! What a shame!
------------
"Mario Vazquez drops out of 'American Idol'
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- "American Idol" finalist Mario Vazquez, citing "personal issues," withdrew from the talent competition Sunday, and producers of the Fox show called in the son of a baseball Hall of Famer as backup.
Fox bumped Nikko Smith, the son of baseball great Ozzie Smith, into Vazquez's spot because Smith got more votes than Travis Tucker when both were voted off Wednesday, the network said.
Now, viewers of the No. 1-rated series will get a chance to reconsider their votes as Smith and the other 11 finalists perform Tuesday at 8 p.m. EST. The show airs live to the East Coast and is tape-delayed on the West Coast.
Vazquez, 27, had been picked by many fans and three fellow finalists as a favorite to win the competition.
He told TV Guide's Web site that he dropped out to "take care of some personal issues with my family in New York. And with `Idol' being a live show, it just wouldn't have worked out schedule-wise."
Vazquez said his departure had nothing to do with Fox or the show itself.
"It's just a personal family thing," he told the Web site. "My family is my top priority."
Smith, 22, of St. Louis, said in an interview before Sunday's announcement that he wasn't surprised to have been voted off.
"I wasn't as disappointed as people thought I would be because I've made it so far," he told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I'm happy to get all that exposure. Millions and millions of people watch the show, and hopefully somebody saw me and liked what they saw."
Following Fox's announcement, a relative of Smith told the Post-Dispatch the family had been asked not to speak about his callback. Smith was not available for comment.
Vazquez is not the first to leave "Idol" unexpectedly, though few have done so willingly. Last year, George Huff was called back to Los Angeles when contestant Donnie Williams was cited for DUI. And in 2003, three contestants were dropped by Fox, two for failing to disclose arrest records and another for posing on an adult-oriented Web site."
Underling 04-05-2005, 07:26 PM Anyone watching this notice how drunk Paula Abdul has appeared in the last few episodes. Some sources are reporting that she's back on pain meds for her chronic back problems, but old girl just comes across trashed.

I watched a bit of it last week. Yeah, she's trashed. I know what trashed looks like, and she is it.
Keith 04-06-2005, 05:01 AM Pain meds or not, she is still a knock out:Smiley199 .
Underling 04-06-2005, 06:32 AM Oh. no doubt about that, Keith. She's still gorgeous. I just wish we cold understand her speech from time to time.

mranderson 04-13-2005, 09:34 AM I wonder if we will see another scam like the Rubin Studdard-Clay Akeman fiasco. Clay clearly was the better of the two.
I do not watch this program, so I can not really comment on the talent... Or lack there of... With the exception noted and one other. (the guy that appeared on "Airline.")
Keith 04-14-2005, 05:08 AM The chubby guy (can't remember his name), that sang the Hall and Oates song, needs to be sent home. He has no talent, and he is a very cocky individual. Somebody like that is definitely not an American Idol.

And he abused his ex-girlfriend. And that hair-lip crap is BS.
Underling 04-14-2005, 06:49 AM I can't believe that he wasn't voted off last night. There's no way he belongs in a competition that sent Nadia Turner home.
Well, I figured it would either be scott or nadia. Scott's next. Or maybe federov. Carrie's flyin' high!
Patrick 04-14-2005, 09:19 AM Yeah, it's definitely time for Scott to go, although I really can't see Bo getting too much further either. I personally felt Nadia might have a shot, but unfortunately, she really blew her chances Tuesday night wit the wong she chose.
I hope our Oklahoma girl goes back to country or at least somthing slower....I didn't feel she did as well with fast pop!
Midtowner 04-14-2005, 09:38 AM Well, I figured it would either be scott or nadia. Scott's next. Or maybe federov. Carrie's flyin' high!
Federov = Harry Potter
Patrick 04-22-2005, 02:16 PM Well, looks like Anwar was knocked off Tuesday night. Who do you think will be knocked off next, and who do you think will be in the final 2?
I'm thinking Scott will be knocked off next, and I'm thinking Constantine and Vonzell will be in the final 2, with Carrie Underwood making the top 3, but being cut after that.
If I had to guess at this point, I'd say Constantine will win! Although, obviously I'm going for a voting for Carrie!
Shows like American Idol are why I watch only the news and documentaries now.
kellekokid 04-22-2005, 11:27 PM I'm hoping Scott will be gone this next week, not sure how he's stayed on this long...such an attitude! Gangsta wanna be with the walk and look and then sings sappy love songs all the time. I can't even watch him when he sings, I do try to listen just to see if I'm wrong in my opinion, but I sure can't watch him.
I've liked Constantine from the beginning, the other evening I did find myself getting sucked into that as Simon put it "Smoldering Idol" vibe he has going on...had to fan myself, once I stopped laughing at myself that is. lol
Carrie is a powerhouse that has done Oklahoma proud(er) in my opinion and I really think (and hope) she'll be in the top two.

You might want to check your fonts.....I have good eyesight, but this print is rather small and hard to read.
kellekokid 04-23-2005, 11:22 PM Thanks for that helpful hint...I'lll be sure to not make that mistake again.
Patrick 04-24-2005, 11:35 PM Guys, I went ahead and increased the font size to help those of us with vision problems out.
Patrick 04-24-2005, 11:37 PM I actually can see Vonzell being quite a superstar someday. She reminds me a lot of Whitney Houston. Pay close attention to her as the show progresses. I'm thinking she'll make the top 3.....Constantine seems to have every woman's heart right now! lol!
SoundMind 04-26-2005, 11:37 AM Shows like American Idol are why I watch only the news and documentaries now.
American Idol is better than most shows on TV now. At least there's some real artistic talnet being displayed. That's more than you can say about shows like Fear Factor, Wife Swap, Amazing Race, and other dumb reality shows.
Underling 04-26-2005, 07:04 PM Well folks, Carrie was awesome tonight. My one critique of her in the past has been that while her vocals are consistently great, her face was always quite expressionless. Tonight she had the whole package.
Scott should be leaving tomorrow night.
Although Constatine's horrible Nickelback impersonation deserves to be booted as well.
A-Federov did a pretty good job tonight, although I may just be saying that because I really like the song he sang (I Surrender by Celine Dion).
Vonzell and Bo were both as consistent as always. I really think we're looking at a Bo,Constatine, Vonzell, Carrie top four...with Vonzell and Constatine in the top two.
Although I'd rather see a Bo/Carrie finale.
Patrick 04-27-2005, 12:15 AM I actually wasn't that impressed with Bo tonight. Seemed like all he did was scream a lot. Anthony has better vocals, IMO. Scott will probably be knocked off tonight.
Vonzell continues to impress me. She reminds me of Whitney Houston. What a voice.
Carrie seems to do well with country songs...that's why she did well tonight. Her off nights are always when they require her to do something from a different genre.
Rev. Bob 04-27-2005, 12:09 PM I'm thinking Vonzell, Constantine, and Carrie will be in the top 3. After that, it's anyone's call.
ibda12u 04-27-2005, 12:37 PM Man I missed last nights show, what did Scott sing? did he do good? I'm hoping he gets the boot :) I have to agree with kelliekokid, he's got some serious attitude. Like he's gotta come in and rule. 2 words for Scott. Calm Down.
SoundMind 04-27-2005, 01:48 PM I can't remember what he sung, but he got boos from all 3 of the judges. Simon told him he better start packing.
Underling 04-27-2005, 04:34 PM Last night's songs:
Carrie: "When God Fearing women get the blues" Martina McBride
Bo: "I Don't Wanna Be" Gavin Degraw
Vonzell: "I Turn To You" X-tina Aguilera
A-Fed: "I Surrender" Celine Dion
Constantine: "How you Remind me" Nickelback
Scott Wayne Gacy: ""Dance with me Father" Luther Vandross

Patrick 04-28-2005, 12:08 AM To my surprise, Constantine was knocked out tonight. And Scott was actually in the top 3, if you can believe that. Bo, Scott, and Carrie made the top 3. Anthony, Constantine, and Vonzell were in the bottom 3.
Scott must have some friends that can hack phones.
And poor Constantine, I thought he did decently. At least over the season he has.
Carrie didn't have her best night, but she's arguably got the most consistent voice of the bunch.
I was surprised Vonzell was in the bottom three. She's good.
I wanna say Federov's and Scott's days are numbered, but after Constantine's expulsion, who knows?
Underling 04-28-2005, 06:30 AM I think Simon saved Scott by telling him to "Pack his bags". It seems that whenever Simon goes on the attack like that, the fangilrs go crazy with the voting. I honestly don't think Clay would have lasted in second season if Simon hadn't attacked him as much as he did.
People like voting against Simon.
I agree with Simon 99% of the time. So, when he said "pack your bags" I was in agreement 100%. I don't know how Scott is still around.
Patrick 04-28-2005, 11:59 PM I personally think he has better vocals than Constantine or Bo...all they do is yell. But, Anthony, Carrie, and Vonzell beat Scott out. I can't believe Vonzell was in the bottom 3.
ibda12u 04-29-2005, 02:59 PM Man how do I keep missing that show. Scott survived another eh? I guess really the real question is ... Why is Federov still on? :) just my MHO

Believe it or not, I'd think most women think he's prety attractive. But seriously, his vocals aren't that bad. I think he's pretty decent. Better than Scott IMO.
~~*DarlingDiva*~~ 05-01-2005, 12:48 PM Constantine is gone!!!???Noooooooooooooooo.
I really think Carrie underwood will go all the way.
DD
Underling 05-03-2005, 06:33 PM So far tonight, thumbs up for Bo and Carrie, so-so for Vonzell, thumbs down for Scott and A-Fed.
Wonder what the second half will bring.

I agree, Underling. I watched it this evening, and I think that Carrie and Bo were the best, although Vonzell did very well also.:Smiley199
Anthony couldn't seem to do anything right this evening, so I think he will be the next one that is booted off.
Scott is an egotistical(sp?), arrogant, jerk. I can't stand people like him. He is so sure of himself and thinks after he sings that he has to pop off some smart alec remark to the judges, namely Simon. He may as well give it up:whiteflag .

Don't forget -- Scott beat up his ex-girlfriend.
Patrick 05-04-2005, 01:48 AM I'd definitely say Anthony and Scott will be in the bottom 2. Carrie and Bo did fantastic. I was really impressed with Bo. He's becoming quite a rocker. I was much more impressed with him than in recent weeks. Carrie is pretty steady from week to week. I know the folks at the OK Opry are proud.
Vonzell really had an off night. I think a lot of it had to do with the songs she chose, but I know she's better than that. She needs to go after some Whitney Houston songs and show off her beautiful voice.
I'll say Carrie & Bo in the final two. However, Vonzell could sneak her way in.
Underling 05-04-2005, 07:19 PM Carrie, Bo and Vonzell safe.
I'm holding my breath, hoping Scott is toast. But I'm afraid for poor little Anthony.
And on his birthday...
Underling 05-04-2005, 07:36 PM Well, it's about time!
Scott Wayne Gacy is gone!!!
Woo-Hoo!!!
Keith 05-04-2005, 07:54 PM Well, it's about time!

Man, did I miss it? Was it on tonight? So, the abuser finally got booted off.....I wish I could have seen it...probably a Kodak moment.
Patrick 05-04-2005, 11:51 PM Although I felt Anthony had the worst night last night, I'm glad to see Scott gone. Not only did he not have a very good voice, but he was extremely arrogant.
Next week Federov will be voted off I bet. Either that or Paula. Did anybody see that PrimeTime Life Exposé on ABC?
Midtowner 05-05-2005, 06:32 AM Although I felt Anthony had the worst night last night, I'm glad to see Scott gone. Not only did he not have a very good voice, but he was extremely arrogant.
He also beat up his ex girlfriend.
Not a real winner.
Keith 05-05-2005, 06:37 AM So, do you think that Corey Clark had an intimate relationship with Paula Abdul? The story on TV last night was very interesting. If it is true, it is time for Paula to leave the show, especially since she gave preferrential treatment to a contestant.
Underling 05-05-2005, 09:53 AM I don't think I buy Mr. Clark's story.
The whole thing came across as shameless self-promotion. Dude wants to sell copies on his new album.

Nah... as a judge, she has no say in the later rounds. Also, I've never heard her be really critical of anyone. So even if there was something inappropriate happening, I don't think it really effected the outcome of anything. The dude lost, didn't he?
With our soldiers overseas in two different war zones, a looming energy crisis, and all kinds of legitimate hard news stories, I feel sad for America that this is getting any attention whatsoever.
People are more outraged over this than our intelligence failures where WMD's in Iraq are concerned. Think there might be something wrong with that picture?
