5alive 03-05-2020, 01:45 PM Please do...this is beyond annoying!!! Scott5114 03-05-2020, 07:25 PM Seriously? We now blame people’s misbehavior on the sign maker and typeface? Lol. Folks, some people just don’t think rules apply to them. We can make all the excuses we want and deflect responsibilities all we want. Maybe the artist thinks they are so important that they can affect public behavior by shrinking a type face, but that would be a false sense of importance. Some people just fail to obey rules because of their own sense of self importance. Why defend the city for doing their job improperly? Edmond Hausfrau 03-06-2020, 08:39 AM So, I am starting to think this is a comedy bit. City of OKC is now saying Skydance Bridge is open because the decking material that was delivered is "unacceptable" therefore bridge open until acceptable material is ?found ? Purchased? They did say they apologize for the frustration. Edmond Hausfrau 03-06-2020, 08:46 AM Duplicate kukblue1 03-06-2020, 09:40 AM Kind had hopes for the concert stage that were would get some semi big acts in here for a concert or two. I really wasn't blown away like many have been raving about? Am i missing something? It's a nice park but it didn't really leave any lasting impressions on me. Maybe it will be better when it's greened up a bit. Rover 03-07-2020, 10:06 AM Why defend the city for doing their job improperly? Nowhere was I defending the city. I was pointing out the misplacement of blame for stupid human behavior. To blame a typeface squeeze for trespassing was just silly. Only the designer would assign themselves that much power. This constantly blaming everyone but the perpetrators is a societal thing these days. No body seems to say that the person who does something stupid or wrong is responsible for their own behavior. bucktalk 03-07-2020, 10:21 AM I walked through the park briefly around Thanksgiving. I really wasn't blown away like many have been raving about? Am i missing something? It's a nice park but it didn't really leave any lasting impressions on me. Maybe it will be better when it's greened up a bit. I've mentioned the same thing....not really blown away by how the park looks presently. But I guess we need to take into account two things: 1. OKC didn't have the 400 million like Tulsa had for their park so there was limited funds. 2. It's still in infancy stage and hopefully it'll fill out with vegetation in a few years and have a completely different feel to it. Fingerscrossed. Pete 03-07-2020, 10:43 AM It's a good complement to MBG. Much more open and just a nice place to get out and walk. Really can't be judged for a few more years when the landscape starts to mature. And when ultimately joined with the lower park and the river, will be much more about recreation than anything else. And that is very much needed in OKC. bucktalk 03-07-2020, 10:45 AM It's a good complement to MBG. Much more open and just a nice place to get out and walk. I guess, 'out of sight, out of mind'. catcherinthewry 03-07-2020, 12:04 PM I love The Gathering Place - I went there yesterday, but one thing that Scissortail has over it is location. Not only is it central located but it is right next to the convention center and Omni. Plus one of my favorite beer gardens, Social Capitol is on the west side. I think SC will explode in popularity this summer and spur a lot of new development on the west side. Bright future fo Scissortail. Pete 03-27-2020, 10:37 AM How does the 'shelter-in-place' declaration affect parks in OKC? I assume the playground equipment is probably closed and I saw where they closed the dog park. But I assume we can still walk about the park? Yes, playground equipment has been declared off-limits by the city and in the case of Scissortail, there is actually a lock on the fenced-in play areas. But otherwise it is encouraged to get out to parks and get some fresh air as long as you keep your distance from others, which of course is normal anyway. AP 03-27-2020, 10:39 AM The playgrounds I've seen have all been roped off in some way or another. Laramie 03-27-2020, 10:39 AM Thanks Pete, for the updates and the information you supply to OKC on your site. I encourage anyone who has access to or who knows someone who can make you one to wear a mask when out of your home. There are patterns all over the internet. They don’t have to be N95 masks to give you some degree of protection and protect others if you happen to be an asymptomatic carrier. I’ve talked to several infectious disease doctors who recommend this. Only one family member should go to the grocery store and you should either bring your own reusable bags and fill them with your groceries or make sure your sterilize the handles of your cart. Exercise 6 feet social distancing even in line. Better yet, order your groceries and pick them up of have them delivered.Read about how to deal with your groceries when they arrive or you bring them home. The countries who have tested, quarantined, worn masks and stayed at home unless absolutely necessary have a lower rate of disease. This buys time for new information about treatments to come out, allows companies to manufacture the medical equipment that could save your life and gives companies time to work on vaccines. dankrutka 04-01-2020, 01:20 PM I encourage anyone who has access to or who knows someone who can make you one to wear a mask when out of your home. The CDC and WHO (they're finally starting to change their tune) have both totally failed in their you-don't-need-a-mask messaging. N-95 masks and the like need to go to healtchare workers first, but everyone should wear a mask outside and that needs to become the new norm for now and probably the next year. This article explains why everyone should wear masks: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/17/opinion/coronavirus-face-masks.html Laramie 04-01-2020, 01:34 PM I encourage anyone who has access to or who knows someone who can make you one to wear a mask when out of your home. Not so fast on bring your own bags. There is a lot of talk out there that right now these are worse for spreading the disease than the single-one time use bags. I'd recommend opting to leave the reusable bags at home right now. https://www.mprnews.org/story/2020/03/18/states-and-stores-are-banning-reusable-bags-is-it-safe-to-use-them Pete 04-02-2020, 10:17 AM http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/scissortail033120a.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/scissortail033120b.jpg Anonymous. 04-08-2020, 09:05 AM After using this park a lot now, I have decided the width of the sidewalks bordering the park on the West and East sides are a failure. Unless you are actually traveling THROUGH the park, the outside sidewalks are not even wide enough for two persons to pass by comfortably, add the aspect with the trees taking up half of the usable space makes it even more annoying. If you have been here, there is tons of people walking pets and riding bikes, this creates so many unnecessary collisions. If you have been here, there is tons of people walking pets and riding bikes, this creates so many unnecessary collisions. I didn't think bikes are allowed on sidewalks. I also think the designers want people to actually go into the park, not observe from the outside. Isn't that the idea of a park? It isn't just a lawn to look at. Exterior walks just get you to the next entrance path. With the Convention Center where it is, it looks to me like the next hot development areas would naturally be south and west.... oh wait, the sunken I-40 is now an even bigger barrier. So much for encouraging contiguous development south of that. Anything happening there will not be able to effectively draw from what's happening on the north side. Shields to the east is a big barrier too, along with the RR tracks. I think the sunken is a lot less a barrier than an elevated highway. As soon as any buildings 2 or more stories start building close to both sides of the highway, all you will see are buildings, not a physically imposing barrier. And, if we really have that much demand, a sunken area like it is will be way easier to cover than moving an elevated highway. I think it will be many many years until the high density growth of downtown starts to be confined by I-40. We have so much develop-able land around downtown, I hardly think barriers are our worst problem. We could grow to 2 million people and still have undeveloped patches in and around downtown. swosuknight 04-10-2020, 10:07 AM If you have kids, or are a kid at heart, get to Scissortail Park today to get your Garden in Place kits! https://scissortailpark.org/garden-in-place/ Canoe 04-16-2020, 06:57 PM Pete, that last photo really emphasizes something I've noted before, that the old barrier to development (elevated I-40) just moved 5 blocks south. No, what I meant was it's draw would almost EXCLUSIVELY be from the south and west. No inference about the area at all. The northern part has many more things to draw people north over I-40. What would draw people the opposite way? I'm NOT saying it won't happen, just that I-40, sunken or not, is still a barrier. Maybe lower but still a barrier. Southsider2 05-01-2020, 10:10 AM Strawberry fields dropping half a dozen residential mid-rises on those lots southwest of the park would make me soooooo happy. Ditto. Something that may be smart for them to do is have more of a low-rise (See West Village, The Edge, Etc) abutting the park to kick this thing off and then building their mid-high rise behind that. This would give a chance for the market to firm up a little bit and would still give the mid/high rise park views. OkiePoke 05-01-2020, 10:42 AM What caused them to lay new sod?
