Love's Travel Stops Stage & Great Lawn

I listened to the press conference but didn't really catch what the gift was.

Did they just say they donated 2 million dollars? For anything specific or for just operational funds?

So, the Myriad Gardens & Scissortail Park have the 'Great Lawn'? Would be nice if they had two different names?

Not surprising given that you can count the number of major corporate players in the city on one hand. I suspect when Arena naming rights come up for rebid they will be a big contender. It makes the most sense for their name to be said on national tv also.

Is it sad that the first thing that comes to mind, is the prostitution that takes place down the road and how that is a "business" that happens a lot at a truck stop?

Also, hopefully Scissor tail will be cleaner than a Loves bathroom.

I guaranty you if you let the HQ know you saw a dirty bathroom at one of their facilities, they will take care of it. With the proliferation of the newer On-Cue type service stations on the highways with absolutely spotless bathrooms, they know the competition took a step-up. The issue with a lot of the Love's is they are a bit older and, therefore, are not quite as nice. The one's I frequent when I travel the region are, for the most part, pretty decent.

Actually, I think you are the only person whose mind went straight to prostitution. Most normal people don't think that about any particular gas station brand....

Why can't Love's get slushie machines... On-Cue and 7-Eleven have them... Until then Love's is just not a go to for me!

Yeah, that's why I was asking what exactly Loves is paying for. The citizens tax dollars of OKC paid for the Band Shell & Great Lawn. Not Loves.

Here is the Facebook post made by the Scissortail Park page, so looks like it will be just for operational expenses.

Thanks to the Love family and Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores for your very generous donation of $2 million to the Park!

The Stage and Great Lawn at Scissortail Park, scheduled to open this fall in Oklahoma City, will be named the Love’s Travel Stops Stage and Great Lawn in recognition of a major gift from the Love Family. The $2 million gift will fund ongoing maintenance of the park and support stage productions in the future.

The six-acre Love’s Travel Stops Stage and Great Lawn is a first-class outdoor performance venue and features a prominent stage with green room and capacity for small (up to 1,500 guests), medium (up to 10,000 guests) and large (up to 15,000 guests) events, including concerts, outdoor movies, corporate events and symphonic performances.

The venue can also accommodate festivals for up to 250,000 guests over multiple days and is adjacent to the future MAPS 3 Convention Center and Omni Luxury Hotel.

“On behalf of my family, I’m excited to announce this gift, which will help launch and maintain a new premier performance venue for Oklahomans to enjoy for generations to come,” said Jenny Love Meyer, vice president of communications for Love’s Travel Stops and Country Stores. “This gift is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to Oklahoma City for all the support they’ve shown our family and our business throughout the years.”

Here is the official press release:

Thanks theanvil, you highlighted the support the Love's have given to the Oklahoma City community. Judy is visible at Thunder games with her enthusiastic support--just ask LeBron James.

The Love's travel stop off I-35 service road north between Edmond & Oklahoma City is a very nice, clean well-lighted place, a 24/7 beacon to welcome all travelers.

Tom & Judy Love are to be commended for their support of Oklahoma and their travel stops throughout the country. They have stepped up and given back to the community.

As for the yellow patch corporate sponsorship on Thunder uniforms, glad we have a patch ALL can see, the Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores put millions into the sponsorship of the patch, Thunder rewarded their efforts with a patch you can proudly see.

Cheap shot. Hobby Lobby didn't buy the antiques with the dubious provenance, Steve Green did as a private citizen (and he didn't steal anything). You may not like him or them but they are paying quite a bit in property taxes, especially for their HQ and their stores generate a good deal of sales tax.

I kind of agree but but they are a good "mid range" act I would think meaning they would get a great crowd without having an over kill crowd. Meaning like I heard it can hold up to 15,000 I don't think the Kings of Leon could bring that many (i could be wrong) but they could come close. Where like a garth brooks would be over kill and bring in way more than 15,000
