Which ethnic restaurants do we have in the Norman area that have good food and also have kind of a relaxed, quiet atmosphere? Chinese food is ok, but I'm looking more along the lines of Thai, Ethiopian, Indian, or whatever is available.

Sweet Basil Thai on Main Street is one of my favorite places that meet your criteria. The food is pretty good and the atmosphere is low key... but admittedly, the service does occasionally leave me wanting.

I'm curious what other people think...

I recommend Himalayas (Indian) which is in the process of moving from Norman to 709 N Moore Avenue (the former Harry Bear's location). The owners are really great people. http://www.himalayasok.com/

not sure if you are new to the OKC area or not, but there are plenty of Vietnamese pho noodle restaurants around, and they are all pretty authentic.

There's also Dong A in Moore. Along with Korean House, it is one of my favorite Korean restaurants in the metro area.

Dong is pretty good, nothing fancy but good food, give that one a try if you are in moore, its off 12th and eastern in the silverleaf shoppiong center, its hard to get to with all the construction right in the area right now.

If you're going to widen the focus to include Italian, I'll add it's really not that far to Bella Vista (just north of SW59th and S Western) and driving up Western (NW 60th inside Norman) instead of the interstate lets one keep the leisurely pace going to and coming from the meal. While I've nada against Othello's, I adore the food at Bella.

I would tell you, but then it wouldn't be a quiet place anymore. :-)

Only 10 minutes north. It is worth the trip for their larger/nicer location. They should be open by the second week in February.

Misal is one of my favorite Indian restaurants anywhere. Pad Thai, Thai Raja and Sweet Basil are excellent Thai choices in the campus/downtown area. Pho Winner is great by campus. All pretty relaxed places. I don't know of any Ethiopian places in Norman, but there is one in OKC (Queen Sheba).

Othello's in Norman meets the criteria.

I'm pretty sure I can't ever go there again. All those antique clocks, and I have to start them running...startles or annoys the other diners...
