Segway did change the world. Your iPad and iPhone uses Segway technology.

But not in the way the inventor and investors envisioned it. They truly thought there would be people lining up to buy the Segway and they even commissioned people to come up with inventive assembly line concepts because they thought they'd be overwhelmed with orders. They even worked with hundreds of cities and states to try and secure laws that would allow the masses of Segways to legally be on city streets and sidewalks.

I can see it being a Church roll-out.

New Testament, 5th book = Acts
Acts 3:20, under the Contemporary English Version (CEV) is worded:
Then that time will come when the Lord will give you fresh strength. He will send you Jesus, his chosen Messiah.

Again what type of church has this type of ad budget, and why statewide? And why would restaurants have coasters of a church? I go to lifechurch.tv, which is arguably the largest church in the world, and even I can't see them doing this, makes no sense financially or logistically.

Not to mention that if a new religion were to "come out of the closet" so to speak, it wouldn't just be launching in only Oklahoma. The 5320 campaign would be everywhere.

Not saying it is a roll-out, merely that I won't find myself surprised if it turns out to be a roll-out.

As to the cost of the roll-out, I've no clue what has been expended, or will be over next couple of weeks. But the right wallet(s) on board an idea can make interesting things happen.

Could just as easily be a be healthly proposal for 5 days a week, exercise 3 times a day for a minimum of 20 minutes each time.

I suppose we'll know right after all the frillys are worn and the chocolates are eaten and the blah blahs that so often go with the same have been uttered.

On the site, the square blocks in the video looks like concrete sidewalk. So... Sidewalk it is all over. I win!

FritterGirl
01-25-2011, 04:53 PM
Thunder. I really don't think that has anything to do with it.

Per their information, this is an initiative that will benefit all of Oklahoma. States do not fund sidewalks. Individual municipalities do. The City of Oklahoma City has a bond issue program in place to pay for almost $500,000,000 in streeet improvements, including the building of new sidewalks, nearly 300 miles of them. The City does NOT have the money to fund this kind of media campaign, and if they did, they certainly wouldn't be paying for coasters in bars, nor would they authorize the guerilla distribution of stickers defacing their own property.

It is NOT a sidewalk campaign, but may have to do with health in general <-- in other words, getting people to USE the sidewalks.

Thunder

Maybe it is the square footage of a new fitness center? Then how many centers... Hmm..

Like I was saying, the blocks in the video resembles square concrete. Maybe it is a symbol of foundation.

If it involves health, then my guess is a state-of-the-art fitness center Oklahoma have never seen before.

But, is 5,320 sq ft big enough? I'm not good with that measurement.

5320 refers to the following as qouted on the DOH website

"If Oklahoma was able to simply match the national average in health status indicators, 5,320 Oklahoma lives would be saved every year.”

This is a huge program the state has been working on for over a year. If you go to the DOH website and look up meeting minutes from the OHIP meetings you can read all the areas and some programs they are trying establish.

If this proves to be nothing more than a huge promotion from the health police, I'll be significantly disappointed.

It's definatly part of the Oklahoma Health Improvement Plan. Just had lunch at The Wedge and they have coasters in the resturant with the logo and I asked about it and they told me it was part of a health plan the state is about to roll out.

So this big campaign is just built around a statistical number the DOH produced.

They've been stickering, too. I DMd them via twitter to let them know that putting stickers/signs in city parks was defacing public property. I never got a reply. I guess the message is more importance than the means. I wonder how many calories you'd burn walking around and picking all of those signs back up and scraping off the stickers. Surely there's a health benefit in there somewhere.

Posting on Oklahoma Health Care Authority site, just stating that will be announced February 15th with the same look as the billboards. However defiantly looks like it is the number of lives saved per year if we were at the national average.

The buzz around work (at OSDH) is that it's OHIP. I know that Dr. Cline is really wanting to push OHIP hard, and to get Oklahoma out of the bottom in the country health wise. It's pathetic how bad things are. I've heard all sorts of things that they're looking to do in the campaign, I think it's going to be pretty neat. :)

Well, this will be at least as big as "This City's Going On A Diet."

Or "Fogzie."

We can all get exercise by going out and picking up the 3,000 signs they've scattered across the state.

Big kudos to Steve for getting to the bottom of this.

The thing I have a hard time with is seeing advertising for their ER doing much good, you don't go their unless you have an emergency and are close to begin with. Advertising will not change that. Unless your reputation is so terrible people are just passing you go to other hospitals and you just replaced your building and/or staff what does it really do?

The campaign was for St. Anthony's InQuickER service, which lets you make an ER appointment online. So many visits to the ER aren't for true emergencies anymore- people who don't want to wait to get into their doctor, a kid who gets sick at midnight, a minor cut, etc- so you make an appointment, go about your life, spend time waiting at home without being around all the sickies in the ER, whatever- show up, you're seen within 15 minutes (guaranteed, or your ER visit is paid for) and you're on your way. This is not to be used in a "true" emergency- a heart attack, trauma, major accident whatever- it's for those people that are using the ER for non-emergency conditions.

There has been some press on it lately- it's actually been very successful for St. Anthony, attracting patients from all over the city, and there has only been one or two times they did not meet the 15 minute guarantee. I have not used it but have some friends who have and they were very impressed.

This service rocks. We had to go up there for a recent case of the stomach virus that wouldnt go away. Bypassed a multiple hour wait in the waiting room, had an IV in within 4 minutes of pulling into the parking lot, and were fawned over by the doctors -- the seem to have been told to give the inquicker patients special customer service, likely in an attempt to build loyalty. Service was so quick and so good it was almost elitist feeling -- but when you are dehydrated and puking you dont have the inclination to feel guilty.

5280 is a program in Denver where you can go to any of hundreds of participating restaurants in the area and have a wonderful dinner for two for $52.80. Since I'm not there to see the signs, I thought I'd throw this out as some type of similar thing that might be comng up?

I'd been dimly aware of these signs after seeing them stuffed around the Wedge on Western, but I hadn't thought much about them. I noticed this evening, after reading Steve's article, how many of them are posted along May Avenue.

I know better than to use myself as a one-man survey, but I tend to associate these kinds of signs with lawn mower repair, buyers of dilapidated housing, and sleazy work-from-home schemes.

If these signs/stickers are illegal and the owner of the ad agency admits that he knows they are illegal....sounds like he (and his clients) need to serve some community service removing these signs/stickers and paying a significant fine (double any profits he has made from the campaign). Didn't an actress receive that kind of punishment a while back for a similar offense?

“Current national state health rankings place Oklahoma at 49th. We find this unacceptable,” said State Board of Health President Barry Smith. “We recognize that Oklahomans face a variety of barriers to good health due to poverty, lack of insurance, limited access to primary care, and risky personal health behaviors associated with diet, physical activity and smoking. Even so, Oklahoma’s citizens deserve the same opportunities for improving their health as their neighbors in other states. If Oklahoma was able to simply match the national average in health status indicators, 5,320 Oklahoma lives would be saved every year.”

Apologies for being slightly off-topic, but I had the exact opposite experience at St. Anthony's a few weeks ago without using their online service (shame on me, I guess, for never having heard of it before?). I came in with a fever of 105+ and was made to sit in the hot, dry waiting room for a couple of hours with no doctor or nurse attention and, of course, no fluids whatsoever. I've got no desire to go back there, online service or otherwise.

I recall the Oklahoma Gazette did something similar a few years ago with a sprayable, chaulk campaign to promote one of their websites. The idea was to do guerilla marketing in bricktown with "sidewalk chaulk," using a sprayable stencil that washed away. I recall the fallout was huge, and that staff nearly got arrested.

If anyone has better memory on this, please provide details.

I don't doubt for a minute that these campaigns generate some buzz. I mean, as soon as I saw the title for this thread I knew exactly what was being discussed. However, getting people to chit chat about something is a far cry from the campaign generating enough revenue to cover the campaign cost, generate good will and make a profit.

Are you kidding me?
How can you doubt it generates buzz?
People are talking about it on the radio, on blogs, twitter, FB, in offices, and all over OKC. So check, it's generating buzz.
Secondly, the goal of the campaign isn't to generate revenue or create good will, it's to create awareness. Check, awareness created. Future campaigns will be directed at achieving those other objectives. Also, even then indirectly you can related generating awareness to creating profit, people can't buy from a company they don't know about or vote for something they've never heard about.
Lastly, here is a buzz campaign used to kick off and effectively generate awareness in last decade: Droid. Do you know what a Droid is? Yes, of course everybody does now. Check, campaign worked effectively. Now with the combination of there follow up campaigns it is one of the fast growing smartphone lines. Check, generating profit.
(don't respond and say "ok, that's just one", there are many more examples)

Please don't spout off ridiculous commentary on something that you obviously are not well versed in, regardless of how smart you think you are or what experience you have in "Marketing" to back up your opinion.

How about I just leave my 'spouting' to advising you to learn how to read. I CLEARLY stated "I DON'T DOUBT for a minute that these campaigns GENERATE SOME BUZZ." I followed that with another very clear statement that we can't know if the goal is to sell something or promote an idea or campaign. Since it hasn't been revealed what the 5320 is about then neither you or I can know what the goal is.

But obviously your inability to even follow my statements only proves your superior marketing intellect. I bow to you.

It's created buzz, all right – but certainly not the kind of buzz they intended. All the buzz is about the ad agency. This will end up being one of those 'how not to' case studies.
