Any idea when it will be complete?
View Full Version : Penn Square Mall Plutonic Panda 03-07-2013, 08:36 PM Any idea when it will be complete? Pete 03-07-2013, 08:40 PM Can anyone tell us if Bachrach is still in that space? Plutonic Panda 03-07-2013, 08:43 PM I'll drive by there tomorrow and see. Pete 03-07-2013, 08:51 PM Coldwater Creek (just to the east of that proposed Microsoft store) is also getting a $400,000 renovation. The GAP just pulled a $695,000 permit. AMC Theater $1.6 million. Helzberg $150,000. And the Mall Entrance project is $5.3 million. That's a lot of money being spent on that mall. SomeGuy 03-07-2013, 09:10 PM I was at the mall today and yes BachRach is still in that space. I think they are probably moving into Lane Bryant Pete 03-07-2013, 09:14 PM It seems there is a lot of shifting around and that Microsoft has to wait until everyone else is settled. SomeGuy 03-07-2013, 09:17 PM I forgot to add Gymboree is now in the former suncoast in a presumed temporary location, and Sara Sara is unfortunatly still in the mall right in the old Sonic space. Also I found out that Auntie Annies is indeed gone while the Muse store and Lucca are appearently moving out jbkrems 03-07-2013, 10:37 PM SomeGuy, why do you think Bachrach will move to Lane Bryant's spacious space ? Mississippi Blues 03-07-2013, 10:44 PM Glad to see the Microsoft Store is coming online. I never doubted if it was happening, it was just a guessing game of when. shawnw 03-08-2013, 02:11 AM My teenaged daughter is a frequent shopper at Body Central. She is sad at its passing. SoonerDave 03-08-2013, 09:12 AM Glad to see the Microsoft Store is coming online. I never doubted if it was happening, it was just a guessing game of when. Wonder if they've figured out how to reboot a Microsoft store when it crashes for no particular reason? SomeGuy 03-08-2013, 09:53 AM SomeGuy, why do you think Bachrach will move to Lane Bryant's spacious space ? I was referring to Microsoft Store moving into Lane Bryant my bad Pete 03-08-2013, 10:29 AM The Microsoft store is going into the Bachrach space -- I'm sure of that, or at least that was the plan when the building permit was filed. Not sure what is going to happen to Bachrach. I know Coldwater Creek (east of Bachrach) had planned to do a big renovation which would also involve giving back space to Bachrach which Microsoft would then occupy. Has anyone noticed if CC is under construction? GaryOKC6 03-08-2013, 10:38 AM Coldwater Creek (just to the east of that proposed Microsoft store) is also getting a $400,000 renovation. I met with them tyesterday. they are taking all of coldwater creek and half of the space next to it. Construction should start in May. Pete 03-08-2013, 10:39 AM I met with them tyesterday. they are taking all of coldwater creek and half of the space next to it. Construction should start in May. You mean the Microsoft store should start construction in May? Is Bachrach leaving for good? Know what the plans are for the big Gap remodel? metro 03-08-2013, 10:50 AM Someone educate me on how you spend $3.5 million on a 6,500 sq. ft buildout not including fixtures in an existing space? I'd like to be the contractor on that project. I've worked in marketing/real estate for national companies and that just doesn't compute for me. GaryOKC6 03-08-2013, 10:54 AM You mean the Microsoft store should start construction in May? Is Bachrach leaving for good? Know what the plans are for the big Gap remodel? Microsoft is planning to make a big splash here.. They are taking half of the Bachrack space and all of the Coldwater Creek space. They are also opening in tulsa jdcf 03-08-2013, 10:59 AM Re a&f, wish management would make them take away the heavy cologne smell. Can barely tolerate that end of mall when going to wms Sonoma. Pete 03-08-2013, 11:01 AM Someone educate me on how you spend $3.5 million on a 6,500 sq. ft buildout not including fixtures in an existing space? I'd like to be the contractor on that project. I've worked in marketing/real estate for national companies and that just doesn't compute for me. There was structure work involved and perhaps it does include some fixtures, such as the massive, wrap-around video walls that line the perimeter of the front half of the store. The video walls may be part of the building permit since they are semi built-in. But you are right, that is a ton of money. David 03-08-2013, 11:16 AM Have there been any details revealed about the Mall Entrance project? I looked back a few pages and found the News OK article, but it seemed a little light on any specifics. HangryHippo 03-08-2013, 11:17 AM I have no problems with the cologne of A&F when compared to the putrid smell of Williams Sonoma when you walk by. My friends and I all want to vomit every time we pass by that store. It's god awful... Pete 03-08-2013, 11:33 AM Regarding the entrances, all six are being re-done. Also the main restrooms. The bigger entries will get more glass -- an atrium like effect. warreng88 03-08-2013, 11:52 AM I know the foodcourt bathroom is currently under construction, as is the food court itslef. Maybe they are waiting to complete those renovations before starting the exterior renovations. sgt. pepper 03-08-2013, 01:57 PM Pleeeeeeeeezzzzzz tell me they are getting rid of those awful waterless urinals! HangryHippo 03-08-2013, 02:03 PM Pleeeeeeeeezzzzzz tell me they are getting rid of those awful waterless urinals! I hope not. Why do you want them removed? SomeGuy 03-08-2013, 02:13 PM I'm interested in what could be going in Lane Bryant. Maybe rue 21, Disney , DEB or a Hibbit sports John 03-08-2013, 06:50 PM Has anyone noticed if CC is under construction? I was at PSM late last night and there was a plastic curtain wall up in Coldwater, on the side adjacent to Bachrach/Microsoft. bluedogok 03-08-2013, 09:10 PM Someone educate me on how you spend $3.5 million on a 6,500 sq. ft buildout not including fixtures in an existing space? I have done some that have come close to that price per sf ($539/sf) in conference and meeting rooms, a ton of technology can drive up the cost quickly. From what I have seen in the store here in Denver it has much more integrated technology than the Apple stores which are minimalist, even in technology. Most of that type of built-in tech is probably in the GC contract. bchris02 03-08-2013, 11:39 PM I'm interested in what could be going in Lane Bryant. Maybe rue 21, Disney , DEB or a Hibbit sports Hopefully not DEB or Hibbett Sports. Either of those would be a downgrade from Lane Bryant. Penn Square had a Disney store back in the late '90s. Mississippi Blues 03-08-2013, 11:41 PM Hopefully not DEB or Hibbett Sports. Either of those would be a downgrade from Lane Bryant. Penn Square had a Disney store back in the late '90s. I personally wouldn't want to see a Rue 21 there either. SomeGuy 03-10-2013, 04:54 PM It seems like everytime I go into JCP at Penn Square they are always either moving things around or they're doing renovations. Today I went and a good portion was blocked and under construction, what is JCP trying to do? I miss the way JCP was several years ago instead of the new layout and pricing methods jn1780 03-10-2013, 07:57 PM It seems like everytime I go into JCP at Penn Square they are always either moving things around or they're doing renovations. Pretty much, typical story...new CEO brought in because of mediocre sales, changes everything, everyone hates the changes. He is probably gone by next quarter. RadicalModerate 03-10-2013, 09:04 PM Pretty much, typical story...new CEO brought in because of mediocre sales, changes everything, everyone hates the changes. He is probably gone by next quarter. Yes . . . Gone back into that rare and great lily pond of failed and rare CEOs--and soggy golden parachutes--awaiting the growth of new wings and the opportunity to sail again into the upper manangementsphere. A bit like combining a butterfly with a unicorn and a leprechaun, if you think about it. did i forget a phoenix? a phoenix with a fresh load of humbugs? sorry. at the risk of being pedantic and repetitious (again): Suggested Reading: "The Mark Inside" by Amy Reading. metro 03-11-2013, 12:15 PM I got a tweet response back from Art of Shaving, they didn't give specifics, but said they plan on bringing their "perfect shave" to Penn later this fall. Score for OKC, but I hope it doesn't hurt Shave Shop in Classen Curve, that place is awesome. Debzkidz 03-12-2013, 01:36 PM Microsoft is planning to make a big splash here.. SomeGuy 03-12-2013, 02:01 PM So where is Coldwater Creek going? Possibly Lane Bryant or that Old muse store downstairs Pete 03-12-2013, 04:25 PM I'm pretty sure Microsoft is taking all of Bachrach and a part of Coldwater's next door. Coldwater will stay put, just remodeling and giving up a bit of their space. This is what the building permits show. I don't recallo which but they are taking all of one space and half of the other. soonerfan_in_okc 03-14-2013, 01:00 AM this may have been posted earlier, and if so im sorry, but does anyone have any pictures of PS when it was an open air mall?? I'm too young to remember it that way. ljbab728 03-14-2013, 01:31 AM this may have been posted earlier, and if so im sorry, but does anyone have any pictures of PS when it was an open air mall?? I wish I was too young to remember this. LOL Going back and looking at the picture got me reading Spartan's little rant again. Ha! I forget how delusional that guy is! What happened to him? I never see him post anymore (not a bad thing though). Also, did Penn Square always have the same layout it does now? Meaning, has it expanded since it was open air? Pete 03-14-2013, 08:31 AM When then enclosed it, they added the entire wings to the north (movie theater) and west (originally Foley's) and a complete second level. Lafferty Daniel 03-14-2013, 08:48 AM When then enclosed it, they added the entire wings to the north (movie theater) and west (originally Foley's) and a complete second level. Thanks Pete. Pete 03-14-2013, 08:52 AM I'll try and find an original floorplan. Basically, it was John A. Brown and Rothschild's on the far west end and Ward's where Penney's is now. The main area of smaller shops ran east/west from Browns (on right in picture below) & Rothschild's (on left) towards Wards. There was a courtyard in the middle where every Christmas they had a house for Santa. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/pennsquare.jpg metro 03-14-2013, 09:22 AM Going back and looking at the picture got me reading Spartan's little rant again. He likes to post fancy words and utopian theories he learns in academia, but I still find him a valuable poster to this site. SomeGuy 03-14-2013, 09:53 AM What year did the mall become an enclosed mall? Plutonic Panda 03-14-2013, 01:59 PM This is entertaining.Penn Square Mall meltdown ends in nude scuffle | News OK (http://newsok.com/penn-square-mall-meltdown-ends-in-nude-scuffle/article/3765755) Martin 03-14-2013, 02:22 PM Ward's where Penney's is now. i thought that penney's was added on in the 90's... -M Martin 03-14-2013, 02:36 PM this should give an idea of the original layout... (http://www.okctalk.com/okc-1969/29406-nw-50th-penn.html) -M Pete 03-14-2013, 03:21 PM Yes, should have thought of that! :) Here is that 1969 aerial cropped. Not sure what was in the back that I labeled ???. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/pennsquare1969.jpg jn1780 03-14-2013, 04:56 PM Penney's was added on directly east of Ward's which is now Dillard's. Martin 03-14-2013, 06:06 PM the spot macy's now occupies was added later... i think the "???" might have been a grocery store in '69. -M bluedogok 03-14-2013, 06:11 PM It was enclosed as a single level mall around 1980 (I found the drawings in the vault at Benham one time), the expansion (second level, JCP, movie theater) was in the late 80's to early 90's. jn1780 03-14-2013, 07:17 PM JCP was added somewhere in the mid 90's. It was the very last major change to the mall. RadicalModerate 03-14-2013, 07:36 PM Penn Square is just about the only local mall I can stand. I used to like browsing in that "New Age" place on the second level with all the plants and little waterfalls and trippy music. Can't remember the name of it . . . And Successories . . . And Franklin Quest . . . And was it the Pepperoni Grill by the entrance next to Penn? Wasn't The Sharper Image store in there at one time? OKCDrummer77 03-14-2013, 07:44 PM I remember a New Age themed store called Earth Home, but it was on the first floor near or at where the Apple Store is now. There was a Sharper Image near Center Court, I forget which hallway. Snowman 03-14-2013, 07:45 PM Wasn't The Sharper Image store in there at one time? they were there for a long time, I do not remember if it make it to when all their stores closed but it was their past the chains prime And was it the Pepperoni Grill by the entrance next to Penn? There is one now, was it ever on the second floor years ago or did I just imagine that? Martin 03-14-2013, 07:51 PM looks like the grocery was a humpty dumpty in 1970... -M http://www.magnvs.de/pics/pennsquare.jpg |
