Of course, one would have to care whether Chuy's chooses to come to OKC or not. It's just another chain and I care not whether we ever get a Chuy's. There are plenty of better local Mexican restaurants here that I would rather frequent.

The only store I wish we had that Tulsa has is Restoration Hardware. I'm hoping Aubrey has them lined up for that empty space in the Triangle. Anthro only went to Tulsa first because there wasn't a space they wanted in OKC; they were more interested in OKC. Apple came here first. Who cares really? There are a few national stores I'd like to have and after that, I'd rather shop in my local stores.

Local is always better when it comes to restaurants IMO.

It is interesting how many Texas restaurants are opening up locations in Tulsa: Mi Cocina, La Madeleine, and Chuy's. I do like La Madeleine's breakfast and would go there every once in awhile. The others? I'll stick to the much better local places in Tulsa (and OKC).

Chuy's is presently hiring in Norman (up to 150 slots) and I think they are shooting for open later this month. Not certain on opening time frame, but I noticed some now hiring signs yesterday when I gave a chap a ride downtown.

They had a special Redfish Rally opening party about a month ago, but it was just in tents in their parking lot and they only had chips and stuff like that. That could be what your friend heard about. They open this month!

In my experience the Mi Cocina in HPV is much better than the Chuy's on Knox, although I prefer the urban vibe of that particular Chuy's if we're just evaluating the locations - I've heard other Mi Cocina locations aren't as good as the original, and that Chuy's tends to be a lot more consistent.

Have to agree: Mi Cocina is very good Tex-Mex. Chuy's isn't as good.

We had the misfortune to try Chuy's in Norman today . We will never go back. That is some of the worst food we've ever had. The wait person "tried," and that's the nicest thing we can say about the experience. I would give this restaurant an "F" grade on all aspects--except the service; she really did try. Chuy's makes Taco Bell seem "good"--and it is awful, but not like Chuy's. Ugh.

I thought Chuy's was really good........in 1995. Seriously, it's pretty sad for Tex-Mex. That said, it still is better than most Okie-Mex joints.

Chuy's is coming to Memorial Road, just to the west of Argon apartments and Chisholm Creek. The property is actually owned by a church.

They opened in Norman about 10 years ago but this will be the first location in OKC.

Chuy's is great, but understand what they are good at. It's not their Tex-Mex dishes, which are fine (a hell of a lot better than Ted's) but nothing truly special. Where they shine is with all of their New Mexico style green chili dishes. And creamy jalapeno dip.

They have a good, but much reduced menu it seems. I hit the Norman location up maybe once a month. This is going to be pretty close to home though, I'm sure we'll work it into the rotation provided they aren't too swarmed.

Their "New Mexican style" chile dishes taste nothing like New Mexican food, and their Tex-Mex is off. I remember it being great back in the day with the location in Dallas Uptown but it's not what it once was.

I ate at one in North Dallas recently and it was above average. I do think they are generally better than Ted’s. It’s a popular commercial restaurant.. it will kill it at this location. Better than what is up there except for Uncle Julio’s but way better priced than UJ.

New Mexican food was different from Mexican food I'd had before. Very, very good but different. And very spicy. The other thing I remember was fast food places having red or green salsa available. Not packets. Bowls of salsa with spoons.

At one time I would have done backflips for a Mi Cocina in OKC, but I ate at an Irving location a few years ago and wondered what the heck happened to it.

A lot of these places try to jazz up their Tex-Mex to be trendy and end up straying from the good stuff. Certain foods are classic and don’t need to be changed: New York pizza, New Orleanian Creole cuisine, Northern New Mexican cuisine, and, obviously, Tex-Mex. It’s great as is — don’t F with it.

I used to visit the original Chuy’s in Austin and the first one in Dallas Uptown. It was great! Now that it is branching out into other markets it’s added a lot of things that stray from its roots.

Casa Bonita in Denver is making this mistake. They are re-opening right now and they completely gutted the entire Tex-Mex menu. I agree the quality of the food there was lacking severely and was in desperate need for help, but the menu options were classic Tex-Mex. I wish they had kept the same menu but just with better ingredients.

I haven;t liked it as much since post-covid. The menu used to be about twice as large.

Queso Compuesto and Chicka chicka boom boom chicken enchiladas, stacked enchiladas or the steak burrito used to be the go to.

My daughter and I had lunch here yesterday. We arrived around 11:15 and sat at the bar, and the restaurant was full rather quickly. The bartender served us promptly and the service was good. Their salsa is one of the best in town and is spicy without being overpowering. We shared a double order of fajitas, which was too much food for us.

But they were some of the best fajitas I've ever had. The steak was a perfect medium-rare and the chicken was seasoned well and very tasty. The tortillas were fresh and there was plenty of guacamole, sour cream, cheese, etc. for the meal. Their beans and rice are very good as well.

By the time we left, there was a line out the door and the wait was 20 minutes. This location will do very well, in my opinion.
