Bias, much? lol Pete 02-01-2011, 01:38 PM This reminds me of the Simpsons episode where an approaching hurricane led to a rush on the local Kwik-E-Mart, leaving Marge only Creamed Eels and Wadded Beef. In another scene, Homer tells the kids not to worry, they have plenty of food and goes on to make a meal from pie crust, Tom Collins mix and cloves. Easy180 02-01-2011, 01:41 PM I just saw that the banjo museum closed today...What a bunch of crap Matt 02-01-2011, 02:20 PM This reminds me of the Simpsons episode where an approaching hurricane led to a rush on the local Kwik-E-Mart, leaving Marge only Creamed Eels and Wadded Beef. Speaking of which, where's Mr. Plow when we need him? Pete 02-01-2011, 02:50 PM Or the Plow King! Another great Simpson's line on the subject of media weather hyperbole... Kent Brockman: Roads closed, pipes frozen, albinos...virtually invisible. The National Weather Service has upgraded Springfield's blizzard from "Winter Wonderland" to a "Class 3 Kill-Storm"! Finally these snow will actually stick around, but there is a surprise for next Monday. :-) It's hardly going to be a surprise, Thunder. The forecasters are already predicting more snow for the first part of next week. And I'm certainly not enjoying the snow. I needed to be at work today and couldn't get there. Some of my customers had problems that I couldn't help them with. It's not all fun and games. Thunder 02-02-2011, 12:25 AM It's hardly going to be a surprise, Thunder. Some of my customers had problems that I couldn't help them with. It's not all fun and games. Just saying... It could be a major one. heh drum4no1 02-02-2011, 01:20 AM Im tired of this too. I have been at work since Monday 7am and will maybe get to leave Wednesday at three. Going on maybe three hours of sleep that I have gotten from small catnaps.. Its pretty in pictures but causes heck for us adults.. Roadhawg 02-02-2011, 07:48 AM A big thanks to Venture and his friends for keeping us updated on the storm. It was much appreciated !!! bandnerd 02-02-2011, 08:33 AM Just saying... It could be a major one. heh See, you don't care. I know my sister was without power last night. My mother, who lives in Southern OK and is 68 years old, had to go into work, and she was the only one there. The more days we take for snow, the more vacation I lose before I start classes in the summer (12 hours of grad classes and comps, with possibly no vacation. Thanks a lot, blizzard). You are so selfish it's sickening. You delight in the discomfort of others. You worry about your precious fish, so think about the poor horses and cattle that are out there that farmers just don't have enough shelter for. People who have to go into work, no matter what. The road crews that have to get out in it and clear it for those of us who want to go to work. As ljbab said: it's not all fun and games. If your power went out, and your fish froze, then you'd be whining on here about how unfair it is. BBatesokc 02-02-2011, 09:20 AM I'm no Thunder cheerleader, but give me a break folks. Wah, wah. Wishing it to go away doesn't do any good and I'm with Thunder, I LOVE IT and I got stuck twice, the clothes washer in the garage is frozen, the dogs keep crapping on the porch because they dont like the snow, i cant go workout, i cant go to work, had to haul the generator out and get it running, spent the better half of the afternoon shoveling snow with my neighbors and feeling pretty cold and miserable. But its rarely even a once a year occurrence. How do some of you people deal with real emergencies? I embrace it and find it an adventure. Thunder loving this weather doesn't make him 'selfish' Or 'uncaring', it makes him human and with a differing opinion than you. If it was sunny and 90 degrees and that caused you some headache some of you guys would complain about that too. Easy180 02-02-2011, 09:50 AM Monday is supposed to be weak so no real worries Not gonna hate on those that enjoy snow and don't have anywhere to be but this ain't much fun for those of us feeling the heat from our employers bandnerd 02-02-2011, 10:47 AM Monday is supposed to be weak so no real worries Not gonna hate on those that enjoy snow and don't have anywhere to be but this ain't much fun for those of us feeling the heat from our employers That's all I'm trying to say. I think it's pretty, too, and I'm enjoying my time off. But it doesn't mean that I'm not worried about my elderly mother being out in it (luckily, she has a ride, but still, her work doesn't clear the parking lot and it's icy), family members losing power, students having to drive in it eventually to get to school or their work, etc. I think it's just weird to keep saying "hahahaha it's gonna happen again! We're all gonna die!" I don't feel that I have complained all that much. Am I disappointed that I might have to add these days to the end of the school year, when the weather is more enjoyable? Yes. Am I complaining about having a day off now? No. There's nothing I can do about any of it, but at least I'm not a fear-monger. BBatesokc 02-02-2011, 10:55 AM I think it's just weird to keep saying "hahahaha it's gonna happen again! We're all gonna die!" No. What's weird is that is how you read his comments. He didn't even begin to make that statement that you now have no trouble attributing to him, as a quote no less! Says more about you than him. Did he or did he not make this actual quote early on....... This is serious weather, everyone! No joke! This will rival the Great Blizzard of '09 with real likelihood of being the worst of all time! OKC is starting to close down. Only public offices to open is the crews to work on the roads. They will only begin to plow the roads after the storm is done. DRIVING IS NOT RECOMMENDED UNLESS IN EXTREME CASE OF EMERGENCY! That means, don't go to work. Okay. Stay home, tend to your family and pets. "If oklahomans don't have to get out tomorrow, tonight, please stay home." - Gov. Mary Fallin Easy180 02-02-2011, 12:21 PM I will have to say I'm 38 and this is the first time I have shoveled the driveway. Anyone who has followed you and Venture here and/or on the live chat room will know how seriously you take the weather situation, and don't for a second believe you take any joy out of the misery of others. I, for one, enjoy the wry humor you put into this situation, which is about the best we can do as we try to manage things like this. If Sunday->Monday becomes another problem, I'm sure you and Venture will be on top of it all. Thanks for what you do. -SoonerDave ljbab728 02-02-2011, 11:51 PM Thunder, don't change a thing on how or when you post. Thanks for what you do. -SoonerDave SoonerDave, I think everyone appreciates a serious discussion about the weather with a little humor thrown in occasionally. What I object to are those who seem to take glee in approaching bad weather while only giving consideration to how it affects them. That definitely happens. I don't think Thunder gets joy out of problems that others may have, I just don't think he always considers that when saying some of the things he says. David Payne can give great weather reports and forecasts but sometimes he almost jumps up and down talking about approaching bad weather. Roadhawg 02-03-2011, 07:57 AM Being from the north I don't mind a good snowstorm now and then so I can get out and play in it :) venture 02-03-2011, 10:30 AM Looking at the model runs this morning, nothing major at all coming up. Looks like two areas that could see some more snow. One is NE OK that could get another 1-3" and SW OK that could see the same. Here in central sections, maybe another dusting to an inch from the way it looks now. So just a nice light snow to freshen up what we have. OKCMallen 02-03-2011, 10:56 AM See, you don't care. Let them label us however they want but his comments are a little snide sometimes. Wow, someone's backing me up? That never happens lol. Hey, venture--any word on the roads? I still have to dig the other half of the driveway to get the Fit out and my principal said yesterday evening the roads by our school looked exactly as they did the day before. I'm wondering if she'll call a "professional day" and have us come up to dig the school out like we did a few years ago when we got all that sleet. I'll wait for the weekend before I start talking it up. LOL Also a couple things. The chat room will be restarted over the weekend. So I'll be wrapping it up here soon. Lastly, please understand that these threads are a gentle mix of weather enthusiasts and also those coming for information. Personally, I'm all for major winter storms. However, I do understand that there is a human impact element to it. I would like to ask both sides to just ease back a little bit. Yes some get a bit more anxious than others, it happens. What I ask that we avoid is the directed attacks at specific people. I know it is easy to get aggressive with people on a message board, I've been known to have my faults with it too. LOL Just take a deep breath and relax though. There isn't any need for the hostility we see in other sections of this forum to spill over here. :-) Thunder 02-03-2011, 07:15 PM David, if you are interested in using ScribbleLive, let me know, because I have an account and can hook you up. Nothing to worry about. Flurry or some light snow. venture 02-04-2011, 01:14 AM Looks like some additional snow for Sunday. GFS and NAM are totally split tonight. NAM is dry as a whistle and GFS has 2 to 4 inches of new snow. Both have been pretty consistent. Thunder 02-04-2011, 07:54 AM The system dumped a lot of snow in Texas overnight and the storm expanded (back-build) toward south central and these heavier snowfall is moving northern. I had to make the trek from NE Norman to near campus to pay for rent (four days late). On my way back I spun out and slammed into a curb.
