adaniel 02-08-2011, 01:49 PM It seems that is doing exactly what it was forecasted to do. Pop the panhandle first, then slowly fill into central OK over the next 6-8 hours.
Ft. Supply and Woodward are already reporting heavy snow.
Bunty 02-08-2011, 03:40 PM OK, I see what you mean. Northwestern Oklahoma is the area to watch on radar, not southern Kansas. But I'll be watching the weathermen on TV at 5PM to see if they think this snow storm still means business.
Meanwhile, in Stillwater the sky has returned to cloudy after being sunny earlier this afternoon. http://stillwaterweather.com
venture 02-08-2011, 03:59 PM Models have done very well with this storm and it is doing what has been expected. Moderate snow moving into NW OK right now and the front is continuing to push due south. New GFS is still going around 8-10" for OKC...so no major changes to the forecast needed.
Chat is also going at chatokc.com and twitter feed updates and such are rolling there.
Easy180 02-08-2011, 06:41 PM Get to catch up on my court shows again tomorrow and possibly Thurs
Try not to feel like a worthless employee again but not much I can do about it
Easy180 02-08-2011, 06:42 PM Certain someone will attack the town of Norman for predicting the snow totals. Be sure to say its from NWS in Norman. :-)
I'm all ready for this storm, so BRING IT ON! I wanna attempt to make a snowman.
why bother? He will be dead by Friday
venture 02-09-2011, 09:56 AM Going by snowfall reports, looks like the NAM did a somewhat decent job at forecasting this one. One more band of light to moderate snow coming through now and then it is off to an extremely cold night.
bandnerd 02-09-2011, 09:57 AM Seems like light and fluffy snow that will be easy to shovel out of my driveway. Not nearly as deep as the last storm.
venture 02-09-2011, 10:22 AM First estimate of totals from OUN...
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/images/rtimages/oun/fxc_Snowfall_Totals.jpg
Jesseda 02-09-2011, 10:57 AM storm seemed weeker then predicited, but hey at least i got put up at a nice hotel and a nice meal.. The parking area for the airport is clear and ready for customers with no problems!
Snowman 02-09-2011, 11:05 AM From the forecasts the main thing that change is speed and possibly where it is headed, it ended up slowing up a bit before it got to us, so we have not gotten the totals that were expected but it was also suppose to be completely past my area by now. It is snowing as heavy as it has at any point in the last 24 hours here right now.
venture 02-09-2011, 11:10 AM Yeah the system slowing down at the last minute is what messed things up a bit. Still looks like the snowfall forecast for Central sections should verify with the last batch of snow putting down another inch or so. It is almost done, but should be enough to get us over the 6 inch mark.
betts 02-09-2011, 11:29 AM It's not very impressive here. We have drifts, but nothing like the last snow. We've already been out to Coffee Slingers for coffee this morning and there are a lot more people and cars out and about than with the last storm.
michael 02-09-2011, 11:59 AM well, the main are seemed to avoid stillwater. we got about 4 or so. everywhere just north got hammered pretty good, just west got almost 8, even south of us got more. stillwater and points due east seemed to get out lighter than most up here.
bandnerd 02-09-2011, 03:42 PM Has anyone been out in OKC proper today? How are the roads?
This has probably been mentioned elsehwere, but ODOT maintains a great site with cameras on all major highway intersections, in ALL directions:
www.oktraffic.org
bandnerd 02-09-2011, 03:57 PM Neat. Highways look pretty good. Neighborhoods?
venture 02-09-2011, 05:55 PM So looking long range. It appears for the rest of the month snow seems to be heading on out. Considering long range forecasts are usually junk, please don't hold me to this. LOL
Starting around the 19th of the month, we might be entering an early severe weather season. Temps should start getting into the 60s and 70s and several systems will be coming through at that time. As it appears now, we would have a chance for storms each day. As GFS always likes to do, the last day of the forecast period for it normally has a major powerful system. This is no exception with a strong low coming out of the rockies moving into the Panhandles/SW KS. Very warm air ahead and cold air behind could setup a classic spring day.
We'll see what happens though. Looks like fire danger though starts to go up pretty fast starting this weekend, once most of the snow is gone.
Easy180 02-09-2011, 06:04 PM Has anyone been out in OKC proper today? How are the roads?
Easy money today as the crews put out a ton of sand...Most streets have at least one good lane each direction...If they can sand the intersections tonight it shouldnt be too bad tomorrow morning
venture 02-09-2011, 06:31 PM Easy money today as the crews put out a ton of sand...Most streets have at least one good lane each direction...If they can sand the intersections tonight it shouldnt be too bad tomorrow morning
Hopefully they are putting salt out to help melt the snow. Sand is essentially worthless on snow pack...on ice is a different story.
I think Amarillo got the brunt of this particular storm. It was pretty rough here today.
Bostonfan 02-09-2011, 07:02 PM Don't know Poe. 25 inches northeast of Tulsa looks to take the cake.

Appreciate you guys taking one for the team...I didn't want to have to go in again on Sat and catch up on work

We have a delayed start tomorrow morning...10AM...and I know some of the students are apprehensive about driving on it. They have only seen their neighborhood streets, though, and I keep reassuring them that by 9:30 tomorrow, after the commuters, it should be fairly smooth sailing, and that if I can get the Fit around town, they should be fine! No time like the present to learn how to drive on this isht.
I'd have to concede to that snow total Boston. Don't know about anyone else, but I'm ready for patio weather!
bandnerd 02-09-2011, 09:08 PM Patio weather sounds really nice right about now. I keep looking at my haggard little spring bulbs popping up through the snow in hope of the new season.
Bostonfan 02-09-2011, 09:15 PM I'd have to concede to that snow total Boston. Don't know about anyone else, but I'm ready for patio weather!
no doubt! This is the type of weather that will drive a guy further south!
Roadhawg 02-10-2011, 07:31 AM It's a tad chilly out there this morning
OKCMallen 02-10-2011, 09:04 AM COld enough to freeze my pipes. :(
venture 02-10-2011, 09:43 AM Some of the coldest air we've ever seen in Oklahoma....
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/images/rtimages/oun/fxc_Temperatures.jpg
betts 02-10-2011, 10:21 AM However, the sun is shining! I just walked the 8 blocks to Coffee Slingers and was overheated when I got there. The snow is soft and with the sun shining, I can actually appreciate that it's pretty.
OKCisOK4me 02-10-2011, 10:33 AM New state record low in Pawhuska this morning, -28 degrees...
venture 02-10-2011, 03:06 PM New state record low in Pawhuska this morning, -28 degrees...
Actually the record went to Nowata at 31 below.
rcjunkie 02-10-2011, 04:45 PM Looks like most major school districts ( OKC, Edmond, Putnum City, Mid-Del, Moore, Norman) will be open tomorrow, drive safe and watch out for the kiddos.
OKCisOK4me 02-10-2011, 04:59 PM I'd be watching out for those school buses too!
Actually the record went to Nowata at 31 below.
NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE! Who woulda thunk these temps be possible in our lifetime. That's just freakin insane! I remember a long time ago when I was a kid they were talking about night time temps in North Dakota along the Canadian border being in the -70s, lol.
venture 02-11-2011, 12:18 PM Still looking like around the 20th we'll be entering a (hopeful) wet period for several days with a strong storm system coming across on the 25th that will cool temps back a bit. All in all looks like we are transitioning into a spring pattern, but fire danger increases significantly after today until we get some more precip.

Around the same time frame on the 25th Scott was saying we're due to have a major ICE storm. :-O But then again, it is still way to far out with the GFS.

I have experienced -45 in the Canadian Rockies and it is VERY cold. It is fun to take a container of boiling water outside and throw the contents up in the air and watch it freeze before it hits the ground. Very impressive.

Yes here in northern Wisconsin we've seen -40 at least 5 times this year so far. In my opinion anything below -30 is all the same... miserable.
MustangGT 02-11-2011, 04:35 PM Yes here in northern Wisconsin we've seen -40 at least 5 times this year so far. In my opinion anything below -30 is all the same... miserable.
Yup I agree. It is so miserable to have temps that low.
venture 02-11-2011, 06:58 PM Yes here in northern Wisconsin we've seen -40 at least 5 times this year so far. In my opinion anything below -30 is all the same... miserable.
I remember growing up...air temps -10 to -15...with winds 20-30 mph. But Sunny out. LOL Use to start to wear shorts when we got into the 50s. Since living here, I've turned into a sissy. :-)
venture 02-11-2011, 11:23 PM So here is the incredibly inaccurate super extended don't count on it outlook...
Mostly dry through the 19th with mild/warm temps.
20th - Temps Mid 60s, chances of storms.
21st - Morning rain, temps in the 50s.
22nd - Dry, temps near 60.
23rd - Temps in the 60s to near 70. Storms.
24th - Temps in the 60 to 70, chance of storms southern half of OK.
25th - Hey look...same temps, more storms.
26th - What do you know...same.
27th - What, it's not spring? Temps in the 30s, Rain/Snow mix.
michael 02-12-2011, 12:35 AM i dont like the 27th after a taste of spring
Snowman 02-12-2011, 01:31 AM So in 2011 70 degree weather now means snow the next day, ok
venture 02-12-2011, 03:11 AM So in 2011 70 degree weather now means snow the next day, ok
It seems to always be like that. It was the same for the 09 Blizzard. LOL
Thunder 02-12-2011, 09:12 AM I say bring it on! We can handle it, after all we are Oklarctica.
venture 02-12-2011, 03:18 PM Fire Danger looks to be the main weather story next week...
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/images/rtimages/oun/fxc_Fire_Danger_Graph.jpg
bandnerd 02-12-2011, 05:05 PM Can we just have a S.W.A.T. team available on the highways, waiting for the idiots who throw lit cigarettes out of their car into the dry grass? I want to beat those people.
michael 02-12-2011, 05:29 PM people who throw anything out the windows of a vehicle should be prosecuted well.
Thunder 02-12-2011, 07:01 PM My truck has an astray. :-)
michael 02-12-2011, 07:03 PM almost everyone has an ashtray but for some reason like to throw lit smokes out the window and flip their ashes out.
Thunder 02-12-2011, 07:07 PM Yeah, those are the people that are intentionally trying to start a fire.
jstanthrnme 02-15-2011, 10:46 PM Any thoughts from anyone on this weekends weather? I'm planning on some outdoor recreation for Sunday, and I'm wanting some picnic weather.
OKCisOK4me 02-16-2011, 12:45 PM I wouldn't mind seeing that chance of isolated thunderstorms!
venture 02-17-2011, 07:09 PM Once the evening model run comes in, I'll post a new update. Things have been quiet for too long (for Oklahoma), so something new is bound to be coming. :-P
Thunder 02-17-2011, 08:42 PM Please let it be snow! Snow! Snow!!!!! BLIZZZZZARD!!!!
Easy180 02-17-2011, 08:57 PM Accuweather says the rest of the month will be boring and I'm fine with dat
Catch up on the rain once we know ice is out of the question

Here, here. Much better this than more snow. I've had my fill of snow for awhile.
blangtang 02-18-2011, 12:02 AM Gary England had a graphic on tonight predicting 46-52 tornadoes in oklahoma for the year
venture 02-18-2011, 12:31 AM So here is what the evening models have put together going forward. Keep in mind this is about as accurate as AccuWeather (LOL - ugh I wish they'd go away)...so have your salt ready for throwing.
Sat 2/20 - Possibly some scattered sprinkles/showers around...otherwise more humid. Temps in the 60s. Some storms possible far west.
Sun 2/21 - Isolated storms around, nothing major. Temps in the mid 60s.
Mon 2/22 - Light rain, mainly NC and NE OK. May mix with a bit of snow. Temps from mid 30s north to near 50 south.
Tue 2/23 - Dry. Temps 40s and 50s.
Wed 2/24 - Dry. Temps 50s east to low 60s west.
Thu 2/25 - Showers and Storms. Temps around 60.
Fri 2/26 - Mostly dry. Some sprinkles/flurries NW and an isolated storm far South/SE. Temps upper 30s NW to mid 60s south.
Sat 2/27 - Dry west, wet eastern half...maybe some flurries NW. Mostly rain east but some mix far NE. Temps mid 20s NW to mid 50s far SE.
Sun 2/28 - Light snow NW, dry elsewhere. Temps near 30 NW to around 40 SE.
Mon 3/1 - Dry. Temps mainly in the 30s.
Tue 3/2 - Some sprinkles Central and South, Light Snow/Mix north. Temps upper 30s far north to low 50s SW.
Wed 3/3 - Dry. Temps upper 30s north to upper 40s south.
Thu 3/4 - Light rain West, may mix some some snow near KS border. Temps near 40 NE to mid 50s SW.
Fri 3/5 - Scattered showers, maybe a storm south. Temps low 40s north to around 60 SW.
Sat 3/6 - Always a wacky period for the GFS to forecast since it is so far out. Light rain SE. Rain/Snow mix remainder of eastern OK. Snow central and western OK. Temps Low 40s SE, mid 30s elsewhere except low 30s from OKC to SW OK.
Again, take it as you will. Once we see a firmer transition to spring weather, I'll get the spring thread going with the severe weather resources posted in the initial post as usual.
Thunder 02-18-2011, 12:38 AM Okay, buddy, you're gonna have to cover that tornado predictions! Is what Gary predicted below, average, or above for our typical tornado season?
