View Full Version : Edge @ Midtown
Bellaboo 02-12-2015, 08:51 PM I still don't get why they completely covered the windows with the organic squeeze decals. It looks so stupid.
I don't know, but maybe they are not open yet and are still working inside...?
^That's possible and I'm probably just a dummy. I just assumed that they were already open.
Just the facts 02-12-2015, 09:07 PM On a related note - the door decals look like the North Korean grocery store in The Interview. They just need a fat kid standing out front.
BotDYFR9ULk
They aren't quite open yet. I'm sure the window clings will come down when they are.
Ha, well now I feel like an idiot. Makes every bit of sense now that I have that information.
bchris02 02-15-2015, 11:58 AM Does anybody know if they plan on resurfacing NW 12th St on the south side of this complex? It is currently in such bad shape it might as well be a dirt road. It's getting difficult to drive on.

I would assume yes.

It's to screen the public and provide some privacy for the nature of Organic Squeeze's clientele.
CurtisJ 02-18-2015, 12:34 AM and provide some privacy for the nature of Organic Squeeze's clientele.
Did I miss something here, why does a juice bar's clientele require more stringent privacy than the average business? Ohh, Wait! I know! this is the long rumored sex shop that's going in! Is it "organic squeeze" or "orga..."
...nevermind...
self censoring...
...and good night.
boitoirich 02-18-2015, 03:04 PM Yeah. What kind of juice are they [I]really [I] selling? It looks like a Squeeze-easy.
dankrutka 03-16-2015, 01:25 AM Close to done on the west side...

Spartan 03-17-2015, 12:06 PM Wow the walkups and balconies are great. Utility boxes not so much, but oh well.
Gary Brooks has delivered a phenomenal project. It's interesting to think about considering the original thread title here "Is Overholser Green Officially Dead?" That was a beautiful development, and the massing would have been double what The Edge delivered.
soonerguru 03-17-2015, 08:20 PM Anyone heard anything new on the sex shop?

The application with the planning department is expected to slide right in with ease, even though it is quite a large file. Sales are expected to be robust.

How they treated the slope here puts the Maywood area to shame... the blank walls/parking access areas leave much to be desired over there. The 13th Street side looks great on the Edge.

sixkiller 09-08-2015, 07:53 AM Has anyone heard what this "Kitchen Table" concept will entail? The space is so much bigger than the Nichols Hills location.
^
I went by there today and the Organic Squeeze "Kitchen Table" concept is quite more extensive than the other location.
Both the indoor and outdoor spaces are quite large and they have a bunch of refrigerated cases inside.
Not quite open, but very close. Excited to see the finished product.

I talked to them at the NHP location and they said they hope to be in by the end of October at the latest.
Urbanized 09-24-2015, 03:28 PM Pete did you see the space where the porn shop is going? I still haven't been able to figure out which space that is.
The irony of the HH concern over a porn shop or something going into this project -- apart from the obvious lunacy -- is that the retail space doesn't even face 13th, and even then it would be the south side of 13th and there is a full row of commercial development between the street and the neighborhood.
So, you have the neighborhood, a half block of mainly office buildings, a busy 4-lane street, the Edge itself and THEN a couple of retail slots.
No matter what they put in there it is very far removed from any of the homes to the extent the opinion of those homeowners is not whatsoever relevant.

The irony of your statement is that HH residents worked specifically to increase the amount of retail along Walker to extend what was in place south of the Edge all the way up to 13th Street. Brooks' proposal in particular was revised to increase retail through the review and vetting process.
Spartan 09-27-2015, 10:17 PM For lack of knowing what Organic Squeeze is, I'm going to assume that is the porn shop?

Where's the like button when you need one?
Maybe they misspelled it and it's really the Orgasmic Squeeze.
Any news about the opening of Organic Squeeze?
They are in the final stages of hiring and should be open very soon.
From the downtown home tour today...
There were absolutely tons of people out on this tour. I went to all 8 places and everyone of them were crawling with dozens of people.
At 10:30 (then started at 10) the lady at the Edge said they already had 100 people show up.
And how about this... Gary Brooks himself was there and was personally escorting groups around.

dankrutka 03-06-2016, 03:35 PM A question for people that know a lot more than me, why not grow vines along the parking garage that faces the pool? Seems like that would be such a better feel. Maybe growing vines is too expensive and troublesome to upkeep?
kevin lee 03-06-2016, 04:52 PM I'm not for sure what their reasoning is, but I remember one time I was at a condo in Atlanta and I seen a rat climb down the vines into the parking lot. He got scared, turned around and ran back up the vines and buried himself in the middle of the vines. Every since then I've not been a big fan of vines.
I don't know why not either because I know originally Level did show some sort of vines on their garage which is set almost exactly the same way against the pool.
But I can tell you emphatically yes, rats love vines. Not trying to give anyone the willies but I had a bad rat problem in California and all the pest control people told me I needed to get rid of all the ivy and various climbing plants I had in my yard.
turnpup 03-06-2016, 05:21 PM Eeeeewwww!
_Cramer_ 03-09-2016, 08:55 AM I don't think the trees look that bad, they'll get bigger.
Some vines are very invasive and can "eat" away at the concrete and mortar. You do not want vines growing on your brick house I can assure you. I've seen pics of a gorgeous home in NH (nearly $2 mil home) and the ivy grew inside because it wedged its way into the brick and mortar. I need to find these pics! They removed Sheetrock and there were ivy roots in the walls!
dankrutka 09-12-2016, 02:49 PM Organic Squeeze already shutting down for a different concept:

Not really surprised. Aren't they opening another location downtown soon?

Trying to confirm if they are still going forward with the 8th street location, just east of Broadway.

Not surprising, the space was too big for that concept. I went there for breakfast occasionally and it was never busy. Are they still planning on opening a location closer to the Metropolitan?
Urbanized 09-12-2016, 03:07 PM Glad I finally made it in last week to try the place out!

ClayCall 09-13-2016, 09:56 AM Would be cool if Commonplace Books, the recently announced bookstore coming to Midtown, went in the Organic Squeeze space.

Organic Squeeze is keeping all the space they currently occupy.
I confirmed this yesterday.
ClayCall 09-13-2016, 11:00 AM Right. Just mentioning that it would make for a cool space to put it. I would imagine the OS folks will utilize the kitchen that is already in place.

The bookstore is going into Plaza Court, which is probably even a better location given the emergence of Walker as Midtown's retail corridor.
^In one of the new retail spots that was created?
I love that stretch of Walker.
^In one of the new retail spots that was created?
Yes.
Midtown Renaissance has done such an awesome job of placemaking all along Walker.

I wasn't too far off. I think this will be a great location. http://www.okctalk.com/content.php?r=339-Insomnia-Cookies-Commonplace-Books-and-more-retail-for-Midtown
sooner88 05-24-2017, 01:44 PM Gogi Go, a "Chipotle meets Korean food", restaurant will be taking up the north half of the space previously occupied solely by Organic Squeeze. Organic Squeeze is going to open on the south end of the space with their standard concept. I've had Asian food that used the Chipotle concept outside of Oklahoma and it worked really well, look forward to trying this out.

awesome. sounds great! and it'll be open late!
Roger S 05-24-2017, 01:56 PM Nice.... Korean cuisine really starting to expand out of the Mid-Del area.... Chae on 23rd, Taste of Korea at Sheridan and Western, Shilla going in at UNP (Maybe?). and now this.
Dustin 05-24-2017, 02:29 PM Korean food is sooo good! I wish we had more options here.
Roger S 05-24-2017, 02:31 PM I guess technically Chick N Beer is Korean too.
sooner88 05-24-2017, 02:42 PM I guess technically Chick N Beer is Korean too.
Could throw UrBun in there too.
Good news as this concept sounds interesting.
The main issue will all that Edge space is there is virtually no parking, so hope that works out for them and the new revised Organic Squeeze.
TheirTheir 05-24-2017, 04:29 PM My thoughts exactly.
Questor 05-26-2017, 06:22 PM It is interesting the number of Korean-fusian places that have opened recently. I'm really happy about that; food diversity is a great thing. Now if only we could get some Polynesian going on here.
Market at Commonplace is well under construction on the southeast corner of this project:

warreng88 01-13-2021, 10:07 AM Looks like this development has sold to Weidner Apartment homes out of Washington for $55 million. That's $220,000/unit.
^
So, at what point do we stop using taxpayer money and other incentives to fund privately-owned housing?
It was all meant to jump-start development and we are far past that point.
Reminder that The Edge received TIF and also a sweetheart deal on the land.
They have now instituted claw-back clauses in these incentive agreements if a property is sold early in ownership. Not sure if The Edge had such a clause but even if it did, the sale timing was likely outside any claw-back period.
