View Full Version : Edge @ Midtown
Rover 01-27-2014, 08:38 AM The reason utilities were included at The Classen was because it was cost-prohibitive to retro-fit and separately engineer many of the building's mechanical systems, most notably HVAC. This, by the way, is the main reason that they switched from the condominium model to the leased apartment model. That building could have easily sold as condos, but it was virtually impossible to do so in that configuration. Not sure about Regency, but would guess again that the systems are all tied together in that ancient building.
I assume they are chilled water central systems. Still can be individually apportioned and billed. But it is usually easier to just bill on proportional footage basis. Shouldn't keep anyone from making condos from apartments.

Well. That was the story Dick Tanenbaum told. Sounds like he should have hired you!

Bwahaha! I see what you did there.
Plutonic Panda 03-11-2014, 11:34 AM I'm not wild about the color.I agree and it seems like the front of the building will be a little drafty ;)
Plutonic Panda 03-11-2014, 11:35 AM Anyhow, this will be super awesome. Once this is done, I hope the streets will be reconstructed and made more pedestrian friendly with ped. specific crosswalk lights.
Teo9969 03-11-2014, 12:04 PM I'm not wild about the color.
You're an Oklahoman after all
ljbab728 03-11-2014, 10:29 PM I'm not wild about the color.
That's just for St. Patrick's Day. It will be changed right after.
The first look at their courtyard, from the Edge FB page:

Teo9969 04-06-2014, 10:57 AM They need to work on their landscaping techniques. I appreciate the effort to be modern and artistic, but it would be hard to enjoy a coffee and a book in this environment. Sunbathing is right out.
Urbanized 04-06-2014, 11:13 AM Yeah, and sheets of plywood instead of pool furniture? I don't get it. And that yellow siding looks worse than the green siding does. Total fail.
Teo9969 04-06-2014, 12:03 PM Besides, "Middle Eastern war zone" theme is not going to go over well with the über conservative Oklahomans that will likely occupy these units.
I'm wondering how they are going to get that crane back out of the middle of the complex.
Teo9969 04-06-2014, 01:52 PM Dude…is that a zip-line from the apartment to the garage?!
CuatrodeMayo 04-06-2014, 02:35 PM Besides, "Middle Eastern war zone" theme is not going to go over well with the über conservative Oklahomans that will likely occupy these units.
Conservative Oklahomans won't "occupy" anything...those 99% hippies!
Spartan 04-06-2014, 03:04 PM I'm wondering how they are going to get that crane back out of the middle of the complex.
Prob drive it out the parking garage.
Urbanized 04-06-2014, 05:34 PM I heard they're going to drive it out through the sex shop before they finish it out.

There's a hole joke in there somewhere
Dubya61 04-07-2014, 12:37 PM They will turn the crane AND the steam shovel into a furnace for the Edge offices.
OKCisOK4me 04-07-2014, 12:44 PM I'm wondering how they are going to get that crane back out of the middle of the complex.
Is Mike Mulligan the crane operator?
Just the facts 04-07-2014, 01:02 PM I'm wondering how they are going to get that crane back out of the middle of the complex.
The crane is going to leave. That is how future tenants are going to get BBQ grills, hammocks, and laundry lines put on their balconies. On weekends they will use it to peer in windows in HH.
Urbanized 04-07-2014, 01:09 PM Did they add the observation deck with the coin-operated telescopes pointed at HH? Or do the "transient" tenants of Edge have to supply their own telescopes? I don't recall.
CuatrodeMayo 04-07-2014, 01:14 PM Making fun of rich people is fun.
Urbanized 04-07-2014, 01:18 PM Now, now. This isn't about rich people, of whom there are many smart, good and well-intentioned ones in HH and elsewhere. No, making fun of out-of-touch elitist dullards is fun.
CuatrodeMayo 04-07-2014, 01:24 PM Lol. True. I should have been have specific.

Extra point for the use of "dullards".

You can rent them from the sex shop.

warreng88 04-07-2014, 09:56 PM I'm surprised no one ever eluded to the MP/HH NIMBYs having a stick up their @$$ and now having a place to buy a replacement if needed...

I read this and wonder why any civilized neighbor would worry about the calibre of people moving in? So much for the kinder, gentler generation.
By the way, there is a big difference between elude and allude.

Yep, should have been allude. I still stand by the joke... Which is what it was.

My girlfriend and a friend of hers paid the deposit and plan to move in August 1st.
I believe only some of the units will be ready in August and the remainder will be finished later in the year.
East side first, then west side.
catch22 04-24-2014, 02:27 PM Nice. It's a great location.

You never know what the future holds. :) Of course, I would be in town for 3 days before I got locked up in the clink because I painted a turn lane on Broadway.
(now why can't I find a Youtube video of Kramer 'fixing' the section of the Long Island Expressway he adopted)

Not sure, but that side faces HH/MP and so it maybe a nod to the change when crossing 13th to the residential area. We'll have to see it when it's finished, but if it looks good, I like that little gesture. Makes for good architecture.

I think it is supposed to help transition the environment from the "square" building style of the south and southeast (relative to this project, so midtown/auto alley) to the residential houses to the north and northwest.
