Rover 09-30-2021, 10:47 AM I believe their bid didn't account for concrete. TheTravellers 09-30-2021, 11:05 AM Have you tried the waybacktimemachine (https://archive.org/web/)? I am not sure if they archive news websites, but there may be some versions of their website before the paywall and redesign etc. You can also search the Joklahoman archives for free with your Metro Library card. HOT ROD 09-30-2021, 01:11 PM I think it's interesting that SF's new arena appears to have similar design queues to BOK. Maybe some of that will come in the upcoming renovations, but I would like to see a radical change from it being the old Ford Center building from two decades ago on the north end. Perhaps they can give this place the same treatment they gave the Belle Isle Library. chssooner 10-03-2021, 07:02 PM That's a good aesthetic upgrade, but I'd wish they'd change up the building's overall exterior. The company made good on the bid and ate the difference, which saved the City significantly on construction. I’m sorry, I don’t recall the estimated underbid amount, and links to Oklahoman stories that come up in search results are broken, due to their redesign. $24 million sticks in my mind for some reason because l was so astounded at how much they ate. Anonymous. 10-04-2021, 08:12 AM Wow this thing is GREEEEN. I love it. It is so bright, that the reflection of the green is cast onto the other buildings in the skyline. It is especially apparent on Devon since they're no longer using the LED strips. jn1780 10-04-2021, 08:32 AM Wow this thing is GREEEEN. I love it. Yes, they also projected "Run to Remember" on the side of Regency Tower in green. soonerguru 10-04-2021, 11:13 AM https://mobile.twitter.com/Rylan_Stiles/status/1444727015748341760 That looks killer. David 10-04-2021, 11:23 AM It really does, that is fantastic. The reflections on the Omni at the end, oh yeah. HFAA Alum 10-04-2021, 12:24 PM They'd just build a new arena at that point. Thing is that they're already replacing parts of the facade as things move along via additional entrances and renovations to the south side. I'm just personally biased to seeing the north side barely getting any love as it's already facing the skyline. The reason why they're really putting so much energy into the south side is because it's more visible from both the park and Omni. But a lot of the national broadcast camera shots capture the north end as people file into the arena. EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to quote. I will say, it was pretty jarring to see the lack of mask wearing in general. I would have said that I am just in a college town bubble, but mask wearing is dramatically lower in Norman than Denton too. These are very similar towns. Anyway, great pictures, Pete. Arena looks good. Can't wait to get to some games this season. chssooner 10-05-2021, 11:24 PM I live in Denton and I was in OKC for the marathon this last weekend. Hmmmm... that's weird... in Houston and Galveston last week, there wasn't a noticeable difference than the way it is up here. By stark contrast, Brownsville was the most voluntarily compliant community I've been to in a long time. Three-quarters or more were wearing masks in public. By stark contrast, Brownsville was the most voluntarily compliant community I've been to in a long time. Three-quarters or more were wearing masks in public. Was in NYC a week ago. High degree of voluntary and required masking. To go to any restaurant you must show vaccine card or recent negative test. All stores, etc, REQUIRE masks, and no one makes a deal of it. High number of maskers in streets and everyone masks for public transportation, including cabs and Uber. Then I come home and..... Bellaboo 10-06-2021, 08:26 AM I was in Seattle last week for a week. Or maybe they just need to be aimed better at the roof instead? shawnw 10-07-2021, 03:31 PM I haven't seen it in person yet, so I'll reserve judgement, but from photos it seems like it could be toned down slightly without losing the general effect. Ross MacLochness 10-07-2021, 03:34 PM anybody else think maybe it's too bright, giving a rather tacky appearance with all of the light pollution? Or maybe they just need to be aimed better at the roof instead? It's really really bright. It definitely stands out and looks cool but I agree that it's a bit overboard from the perspective of light pollution. The photos, even my own, give it an extra glow that is not perceived in person at ground level. Bellaboo 10-08-2021, 08:08 AM I drove by on I-35northbound then onto westbound 40 and from a distance the downtown looked better than it ever has. IMO. Leave it to Paycom to deliver the lighting that the #1 oil company promised and never delivered :lol2: Timshel 10-11-2021, 09:30 AM While, after seeing them in person multiple times, I'm on team "the green lights really aren't too bad in person (and I think actually look pretty good) and photos make them look much brighter" it was kinda funny to see the arena last night with the super low cloud cover. The glow looked very Ghostbusters/Batman/movie apocalypse. I wasn't able to get a great photo as I was riding in a car, but it gives you the gist. 17147 17148 I'm sure it's not any different than with the previous lighting setup, but the green is definitely more, um, "noticeable." (And, FWIW, these are unmodified iPhone 13 Pro Night Mode photos. Is probably pumping up the green color a bit, but is pretty consistent with what I was seeing with my eye.) Anonymous. 10-11-2021, 10:05 AM Yes it was crazy looking last night with the low clouds. I saw someone on twitter say it was time to steal something else from Seattle.
