Looks like it's from on top of the garage just south of FNC to me....too low for FNC.

Idk where to ask this but, what's going to happen to Cox Convention center once the new one is complete?, A brand new parking lot for future Thunder games will be a great idea.

What is it with your fascination for parking lots? In a word, ick. I could think of worse things to do at the Cox site, but I'd have to really work at it, and consume an obscene amount of bad tequila as well.

You dont think people get aggrivated when heading to/leaving a Thunder game? Every one wants to cut infront of someone at a stoplight and some be doing u-turns to find the quickest way out of that madness. I just wish we could do a lot better when finding a place to park down there.

adding even more cars closer is your solution? Not a good plan, plus a poor use of the land.

The parking down there is just fine. I park in the Santa Fe garage and never have a problem getting a spot. Sure, traffic is a bit slow leaving but adding another surface lot won't do anything to help that.

The last few games I went to, I parked in the Walker garage. It's $5, I get to walk though the gardens, and leaving DT in a westerly direction is fairly easy even with game traffic. It wasn't even very full.

Having so many parking lots in close proximity to each other and the arena is why traffic is why there is so much congestion in the area. Forcing people to walk a little will allow the traffic to be spread out more. It wouldn't hurt that obesity statistic either. lol

I don't know what they will do with the convention center. They will probably keep it until way in the future when we start thinking about a new arena 20 years from now. No point in demolishing the north side that is only about five years old and it actually has a hotel just next door connected by a skybridge.

I suggest that you might try going west to Western or Penn then to get on I40 no matter which direction you're going. If there is less traffic it might be faster for you.

Well we parked furthur north tonight around Walker or Hudson and it was pretty smooth considering there were about 50,000 people out there lol.

As Iwas headed to the arena today, I was a little more observant of the parking options, like I said, its AWFUL!, 2 miles from the arena and you still couldnt fina a decent spot. There were thousands of cars parked in empty grass lands I was like Is this is a good as it gets. Cars shouldnt be parked up on side walks and on someones vacant property. just embarrassing for our city!

So we need a big parking garage. I believe the city is planning to build one or two. No big deal. However, another problem is that we don't have reliable public transport to bring people downtown. Mass transit would alleviate some of the parking problems.

Two miles? I think your exaggeration has gotten out of hand. The arena only holds 20,000, for crying out loud. Add in another five thousand or so streetside revelers and you get a fairly manageable number of people downtown.

There's nothing "embarrassing" about a bustling inner city. I know that concept is new for a lot of people. But ease of parking is not something that's always synonymous with bustling, happening cities.

Dude. You're losing credibility. I have been to probably 60 Thunder games and never parked more than a mile away. I usually park in the Deep Deuce area (because I enjoy a nice walk... there are closer spots), and there are always hundreds of spots nearby. People do not have to park even 1 mile from the arena. As the other poster said, some parking garages are on the way, but you should never expect to park next to a building where 20,000 other people are going...

I was over exaggerating when I said 2 miles. People shouldnt have to park in vacant lands, grass, or on top of side walks to attend an event like that. That obviously sounds like and issue.

Pete
05-22-2012, 02:12 PM
You could park in Midtown and ride a Spokies bike for free right down to the arena, putting it in the rack at the Myriad.

Then do the same on the way back.

First 30 minutes is free.

It's an issue because they parked illegally. There are plenty of legal options, they just weren't willing to use them, probably because they didn't want to walk or ride a Spokies bike.

And, besides this was atypical: sold out playoff game that drew thousands of additional people to the area on a work day. However, downtown has had several nights in the last few years were mutiple large scale events were happening and people found parking. It wouldn't even be prudent to conceive of the maximum possible demand for parking and then spend and build for that very rare number.

In the near future we could very well have a problem with parking as it relates to the daily workforce, but we don't have one when it comes to supply for special events. And with better public transit in the works and the new bike program, more options are on the way already.

Pete
05-22-2012, 02:35 PM
And remember, we are at a funny point where downtown parking is critically and temporarily low.

There are more parking structures to come, as well as lots more on-street parking.

Best case scenario...it's done before next season starts. I'd rather have the full use of it available for a whole season anyway. Plus, hopefully ODOT and the city can coordinate and have the old Crosstown demolished by late October/early November for the new season and hopefully all the properties for the new Central Park will be acquired by this time and the process of clearing the way for that park to eventually exist will be an actual reality.

In regards to free parking, we always park along Harvey near Leadership Square. At the last playoff game, we had to go one block north to NW 4th, in front of St. Joseph's Old Cathedral. Four block, easy walk to the arena. Why do people continue this parking myth about Oklahoma City?

Spartan
05-24-2012, 08:58 PM
I never pay for parking, come downtown frequently, and usually only walk 3-5 blocks. Today I ran up to a conference at the Sheraton and got in a walk through the park, which was nice. I probably could have parked further away if I wanted to forgo the park.

Because they can't park for free at the front door like it is a strip mall store in Moore or on Memorial Road.....

To fill out some of the info page for the original arena project, not the remodel.
