One of the funniest stories my Dad ever told me was when he and some of his friends toured one of the OKC Smut-Mobiles and they gathered up some of the sample paperbacks on display that had highlighted the "adult-only" smut in them...and took them up to the front and asked where they should pay to buy them...and they were sent packing...ha--ha--ha...

(smut-mobiles were book-mobiles made into these political-mobiles)

Don"t so much remember the smut mobiles but I do remember Curtis P. Harris and his campaigns against the magazines. Guess he thought HE was the community that set the standards as to what was or wasn't porn.

In the olden days...one just had to know his way around...there was a book store over by the downtown Union Bus Station that had all manner of smut for sale in the back--IF you got to know the lady who ran it through the accepted introductions...not unlike buying booze in Oklahoma when it was "dry"...

"The Stewardesses"..."I Am Curious Yellow"...remember when OKC had those 'cable-version' theaters for feelthy movies?

The pinnacle for me was the Red Bluff Drive-In in Houston...had very high walls around it for the neighbors and had X-rated movies...back in the 1970's.

One of the funniest things I ever saw was a guy watching a girlie movie at the drive in on SE 59th & Santa Fe while filling his gas tank at the gas station across the street north......probably let about a gallon of gas out on the ground he was so engrossed in the movie

I always hated a cheapskate who would not just go pony up the geetz and buy a ticket and watch it all...

Yes, I remember going to that production of "Hair" in OKC. Curtis Harris had pledged to make arrests if any of the cast were nude.

They then wore flesh toned body suits and when the lighting was turned down you really could not see anything. The movie sucked;

It is so weird that there used to be XXX movies in OKC moviehouses but now they are gone. They even had an X rated movie at Shepherd Twin. You'd see them advertized in the evening paper but not the Oklahoman.

I wouldn't think they could stay in business since the advent of computer porn and DVD rentals.

Was before my time, but I do remember there are being a story in the evening news about them always wanting to shut down adult book shops across town.
