Not sure when an announcement will be made. They sell women's clothing, shoes, handbags, jewelry, housewares, furniture and each store has a few one-of-a-kind antiques.

Coming to a location near us soon! I'm sworn to secrecy on the precise location but we've all been relatively close in our speculation. Hooray!

Betts, noticed you've been quite versed in what's happening with Anthropologie and their impending entrance to OKC. Are you involved in the agreements are you're just very close to someone in the know?

Very close to someone in the know who was right about the Tulsa store, so I'm assuming my information about Oklahoma City is correct. I was told a location, but not a time frame. We should hear something relatively soon though.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! I have a mixture of rapture and fear. I spend a ridiculous, embarrassing amount of money ordering clothing online from Anthropologie. I'm not sure that my budget can take having one in the vicinity!

I had a co-worker who gave her notice to quit and two days before her last day the sign went up on the new Anthropologie store across the street (in The Domain). We had wondered what was going in the old Rheul space after it closed. She said it was great timing on her part to leave before it opened, she said she spent enough at the downtown store.

More good news. Apparently we are getting an Urban Outfitters too. They haven't selected a site for it yet, but have been here to look. They've even looked downtown but I don't think they feel downtown has quite enough retail. And, it sounds like we should be having an announcement relatively soon about the Anthropologie, because the company is ready to move on this.

That is great news for Okc.

Come on betts, we need you to sell them on downtown Okc for Urban.

Make suggestions and I will pass them on. I've already suggested 10th and Broadway and Brunos.

From my sources, they will be locating in Moore.

Okay, justy kidding...

From what I've heard, they will be locating in the Chesapeake development area (likely north of Whole Foods but Nichols Hills Plaza is another possiblity), but not in Classen Curve.

They've also looked at the Tuscana site, but I think that's a no go.

Also, The Container Store is strongly considering the SW corner of NW Expressway and Penn, former Salvation Army building now owned by Chesapeake.

Not like I really care though. Both of these stores are way overpriced and will serve mostly those of higher income, not the majority of Oklahomans.

"Serving the majority of Oklahomans" should not be the benchmark by which we judge whether a new retail operation has merit. I would argue that Urban Outfitters, Container Store, etc. aren't necessarily "upscale." "Overpriced" is a matter of opinion, but I have been to the UO near me in St. Louis and saw lots of $10 knick-knacks, $20 tee shirts and $50 jeans. The offerings might not be everybody's cup of tea, but it satisfies a niche and that's what's important. I've never been to Anthropologie (I'm a single guy) but if it excites a particular group, bring it on.

This tells you that only if there was a little bit more retail than currently there is downtown, it might be more viable.

Oh man. Bruno's would be HUGE. That would be absolutely perfect for an Urban Outfitters. Not to mention that it's near rooftops, near a busy intersection, easy access to the rest of the metro, and there is a critical mass of cool **** on Western.

I know how everyone feels about this idea, but why not: If they're going to go downtown, they might want to consider Bricktown. Someone should encourage the Bricktown Association to meet with UO and decide what it would take and if anything could be done, like a parking fix, trying to get a good deal with a developer, etc. Bricktown could be strategic for UO because it does have a fledgling retail base that doesn't exist anywhere else downtown except for Broadway and 9th, and it's a huge destination district with good pedestrian traffic.

It would be one of their more authentic locations, and I think they do care about that..or at least it would be more authentic than their location in Richmond, or Tuscana/Classen Curve would be. I think they could find some good space on the ground floor beneath the ACM, or in the Bricktown Gateway project (Zio's renovation) which is breaking ground imminently. There may be a deal in the works to renovate a large vacant building, that UO could add some fuel to.

Or perhaps J. Pitman may be interested in retooling the proposed hotel concept to incorporate some ground-floor retail? Destination retail helps sell hotel rooms, and hotel rooms or housing units have a direct benefit to retail. Here is one of the mega-projects in Houston where a UO is located right next to an upscale hotel (which was a factor in their locating):

http://www.citycentrehouston.com/

I just know that this is a community that is capable of putting some interesting deals together if you talk to the right people. Obviously UO wouldn't be asking for free rent. A potential tenant like that, with such a huge national reputation and following, and such a destination profile, surely could pique some interest with the Bricktown folks.

If NW 23rd between Classen and Broadway were cleaned up and revitalized completely this would be a good location for Urban Outfitters. Always seems to have decent auto traffic and very walkable. With Oklahoma City University and the Paseo not too far away there is a decent sized younger population that might fit the target demographic.

I agree, stlokc. I will probably never set foot in an Anthropologie or Urban Outfitters store but, if it adds to the overall attractiveness of our city, I'm all for it.
