In a twist of irony, I went to Google Images and searched on 'implosion small building' just to see how small some of them were and the first two images were of the Biltmore coming down.

I know some of the road blockages are due to the streetscaping - not saying this is the case over there but Robinson is jacked up for several blocks.

Two weeks ago they had fences up directing foot traffic off the sidewalk surrounding the buildings on the NE corner of Robert S. Kerr and Robinson. Last week they added barricades to the traffic lanes going around that corner as well and had multiple construction workers on top of the building seemingly clearing some debris from the roof.

This week, the lane barricades are still there. Not sure when the buildings will come down but from the look and pace of the construction it looks soon.

Lol. How did you not know? The whole site was talking about it for months.

I think last I heard they were rescheduling the court date for another day and thought they denied to proposal but apparently not... That sucks! :-/

Just walked by the two buildings near Robinson and RSK and the were jack-hammering inside there.

Also, the west side of the tower has protective plywood all around.

Drove by a couple days ago. The whole block is fenced off now, the plaza in front of Sandridge Tower has been destroyed and taken up. This move is definitely an ego boost, you can tell how much their tower is going to stick out, esp from the north and east now. Sad.

Either they are enclosing the open area at the bottom of their tower or putting up temporary walls to protect the building. I assume for when the surrounding buildings go down. I think the latter (temp walls), because the stuff they are putting up isn't very attractive.

Mentioned by Metro a couple days ago that the front of Sandridge Tower having demolition as well surprised me a little. I thought they were just working on the buildings to be torn down.
I went by and snapped a few photos. Nothing to shocking but if you want to see them:

ya, as a member in finance myself, I'd be more concerned that an executive officer quit with no reason. That means either he was forced out or he left a sinking ship before it could negatively hurt his finance portfolio. I think it is the latter, based on the press release since if he was forced it would have been a more direct 'corporate/hr' kind of statement. Tom better get control of his company.

Interesting way to present the data I guess.

Here is a link to the earnings transcript call on Seekingalpha.com:
http://seekingalpha.com/article/235180-sandridge-energy-ceo-discusses-q3-2010-results-earnings-call-transcript?source=qp_transcript

In the quarter they lost $.06 instead of earning $.03 as the analysts estimated and the stock lost about 15% of value.

Somebody please stop them from destroying those buildings before there is clarity on this financial issue. I know we have all tried, but the irony of a bust Sandridge and empty lots in the middle of downtown would be too painful to endure. I mean really; let's have a bit of long term vision here. Jeeeeez!

Kerry
11-08-2010, 01:02 PM
...but Sandridge said the Campus makeover was key to creating their vision. Surely the delay brought on by OKCTalk has casued them not fulfil their vision in a timely manner, and thus caused the losses.

Unlike Chesapeake and/or Devon construction projects, this one by Sandridge is somewhat concerning. Unlike the fore mentioned companies, Sandridge is not nearly as financially stable. Further, they are under no obligations to build their new plaza. To say, it's their property. Once these buildings are gone and should Sandridge decide financially they need to wait before commencing with construction, these lots could potentially stay vacant for a very long time. While I've heard no discussion of holding off on the project, it does warrant some thought.

Why should they? Their job is done. Sandridge was only interested in public perception when they were trying to get something done a lot of people didn't like. But that is now oil through the pipeline. Character is defined by what you do when you think no one is watching.

I have avoided posting in this thread because it so depressing to view the images and I have nothing positive to say. My animus for SandRidge is only expanding when I see these images, as well as my lack of respect for the Board of Adjustment, except for one of its members, and as well my lack of respect for the Downtown Design Review Committee, again, except for one of its members. That is all that I will have to say in this thread.

Well, not quite. I'll end it by saying, Holy Crap. SandRidge Energy will never be an Oklahoma City hero to me, even if it completes its project, for reasons stated more particularly elsewhere. Tom L. Ward is no Dean A. McGee, and I can only presume that he doesn't care that he badly pales in the comparison. And now I'm done in this thread.

Pete

Losing this building is causing me the most heartache, even more so than when India Temple bites the dust.

It has a lot of old-world charm, is historic and also helps create the Robinson urban Canyon. I know the first time I see the area in person I'll get sick all over again.

However, it is time to move on. I'm looking forward to watching all this develop and will keep an open mind, hoping it turns out all for the best.

Certainly, that particular area has been worn and almost completely abandoned for quite some time. It will be good to see some new construction and lots more people working in the area.

Another damn shame. OKC will never learn from the mistakes of the past. Some good ol boy was probably paid under the table so someone could get their way, which by the way we are known for. Time and time again you see newer apartments that were built in older parts of town and within 20-30 they are often boarded up and a bigger eyesore to the neighborhood. Look at the complex just a few blocks west of Classen on NW 30th. Newer is not always better. It's like tear down the old homes in Heritage Hills and but up some BRAND NEW Jim Walter Homes. Cause BRAND NEW IS BETTER Dubai we are not.
