They used to ride thru OKC every once-in-a-while.

Sonny Barger was the president of the Hells Angels for about 40 years. He mentioned in his autobiography that the Oklahoma Highway patrol found out they were going to ride through Oklahoma so they dispatched a trooper to escort them through the state.

I remember that. Last heard that Sonny lived in Arizona.

Grim Reapers where the largest group in Ok. during the late 1970's and into 1990's.

Understand that this area now belongs to the Outlaws.

But it's hard for the Angels, Outlaws, Bandidos, etc. to wear their patches. The RICO Act has been used for arrests convictions. Wear them and it shows your a member of a criminal enterprise.

Exactly right papaOU. The RICO statutes have righteously decimated biker gangs/organized crime of all types and still do today. Today it is exceptionally rare to see bikers flying patches since they do not wish to draw anymore attention than necessary.

The Hangman motorcycle club was around OKC at one time.

They were concentrated around okc suburbs, Del City (had a clubhouse there) MWC, Norman (They ran some strip bars on and near Campus Corner). Since few fly their patches, it's hard to know whose who.

Hangmen had a joint at 36th and S. Penn in what at one time was a 7/11. Had a pretty cool guy named Herschel who was bartender and ran the place. One night a couple of guys playing pool complained they put money in and nothing happened. Herschel got they key, unlocked the coin area and denied they had put money in. Both guys pull guns and shoot the crap out of him. I never went back!!

The group I remember seeing around during the late 70's and early 80's were the Rogues MC. Not sure who they were affiliated with. The group who tried to set up in MWC (Hangmen I think) were too conspicuous. They set up in a house fronted by Midwest Blvd. and graveled the whole front yard for parking. The MWCPD took to pulling them over as often as possible until they gave up and moved on.

You are correct. I had forgot about the Rogues. Was that house just south of Reno?

Yeah, that was it. I used to go by it on my way to work. Kind of hard to stay under the radar when you do that to the front yard. The Rogues seemed to be a mostly local group. The ones I knew all grew up in the metro area.

There is a Bandito's chapter in Oklahoma City now. I saw a guy at the Oklahoma State Fair wearing Bandito patches with Oklahoma on the bottom. The Hells Angels have stayed out of Oklahoma for the most part from what I can tell. The Outlaws have a clubhouse close to Crutcho School on Reno near Midwest City. A lot of Outlaws went to Prison a few years ago in a big undercover investigation. The Rogues are still around the Del City area. I think they try to play down the outlaw image and just try to promote themselves as a riding club. There are some good shows on A & E about Motorcycle clubs such as the Hells Angels, Mongols, Banditos, Outlaws, Pagans, and Warlocks. Most of the clubs have websites with their histories and in some cases, merchandise to sell.

A good friend of mine Herschel Maloy ran the Keno Saloon (S. Penn Just South of 36th) next door to the 7-11 to the South and was gunned down there. Could this be the same deal? We went through Grant 7th thru 12th together!! He was good guy!! I used to stop in for an occasional beer just to see him!

I think the Outlaws club house is on N.E. 23rd not Reno. I mentioned Reno in my previous post.

To the best of my knowledge he wasn't a member of any of the biker gangs. He was kind of a lone wolf so to speak, but very likeable!!! He saved my tail a time or two....

how can you find out if some one is a poser that claims to be and hells angel ?? I would like to find out and turn him over to the 81 so they can deal with him for posing

If there is someone claiming to be a red & white member, whether they are or they aren't, there's no need to drop a dime on them. If they make the claim or fly an 81 patch in Oklahoma a red & gold or black & white member will definitely show the individual the error of his ways soon enough.

I was thinkin' that the two guys in the first photo (in the set that lead off this thread) were posing as if they were from '65 since the Shovelhead didn't come out until '66. Then I realized they were on Sportsters.

I've seen Outlaws, Bandidos and their support clubs in colors at quite a few bike related shows and such in the past few years. Since the creation of the COC (Confederation Of Clubs) the 1% clubs have been pushing themselves more as rider rights advocates and less as beyond the law. Don't know enough about them to know if it's for real but it seems to be working somewhat, at least locally.

I do not know if it is still pending, but a group of Bandidos filed a lawsuit against the Shawnee Police Department in relation to an incident that occured at a Shawnee motel a couple of years ago. The incident was reported on in the Daily Oklahoman. There used to be a book in the biogarphy section at Barnes & Noble by a guy that used to be in the Bandido's in the Tulsa area. I do not know if the book is still on the shelves.

Sonny Barger's autobiography is an interesting read for someone interested in the Hells Angels. He was CEO of a fairly substantial organization. He kind of contradicts himself by denying that the Hells Angels is a criminal enterprise, yet he tells of his and other members' criminal convictions including prison time. I guess they were just not organized in their individual criminal activities.

Dude . . . (Excuse me, I meant, Man) . . . It's, like, ALL, "pending" . . .

Yeah. And people hate freedom.

That's probably Connecticut Eddie's book- Out in Bad Standings.

I would wager that if a proper and civil request were made to the Metropolitan Library System, the book would almost magically appear on the shelves.

The virtual shelves of Amazon.com also probably contain a couple of copies.

All the Bandido's I see around the area still wear their full patch when riding and so do many of the other clubs in the area.

The same down in Central Texas, talked to a few of them at stops along the way. The Bandido's are the only one that I have really seen down there.

A few years back there was a guy who was supposedly recruiting for an Hell's Angels Austin chapter who was gunned down in a restaurant parking lot in Northwest Austin. Never really heard much of an update about it after that or whether that was what happened.
