In the last week or so, spammers have been hitting this forum hard. What happens is, a person will register with okctalk, and instead of posting messages, they post spam. Posting spam is not allowed on this forum.

"Also, please keep in mind that we strive to operate a spam-free environment. What does that mean? That means posts which are solicitory in nature, or "spaminous" will be automatically removed, and will most likely lead to an immediate removal of the account that is doing the posting. If you would like to get the word out on your products or services, please visit our media kit (http://okctalk.com/cmps_index.php?page=advertising) page for more information."

If you happen to log on and see that someone has posted spam, please alert myself, Todd, or any of the other moderators, by e-mail or PM, and we will delete it off. I received a PM from mranderson about some spam this morning, and I quickly deleted the "spam" posts. If these same people continue to post spam, their membership with okctalk will be terminated.

If they "continue"?

The sole reason these people have accounts is for posting spam.

They should be banned, never to return.

Give them a chance to line out, if they don't then pull the plug.

Exactly. First of all, we don't like to ban people, period. We always give everybody a second chance on this forum. I know several posters on this forum that can attest to that.

Which ones came here crossposting ads -- a practice no online BBS that I've ever seen allows?

Raise your hand if that was you.

Midtowner, we actually now have a policy in place to deal with this. We made some changes in the overall code...if you'd like me to explain the changes, please send me a PM. I think it will handle spammers for now, at least the most recent spammers.

If you have a problem with the way we are handling things, please PM myself, Todd, or Patrick.
