The neon sign really is a part of Oklahoma history, I hope it finds a home within the state....

Everything At Oklahoma City's 66 Bowl To Be Sold at Auction
BY ROBERT MEDLEY

The calls about the big neon sign have come from across the country.

Next up is the call of the auctioneer.

The landmark 66 Bowl, sold recently to an Indian food store, will mostly disappear Tuesday. Everything inside the building is up for bid.

At least it looks like it isn't going to end up at the city dump...be nice is Oklahoma History Center got it or the Route 66 Museum (Weatherford?)

While my parents didn't meet there, shortly after they started going out, they were on a league with my aunt and her future husband. Somewhere at my parents house is an 8x10 league pic of the 4 of them. May try to get by and bid on a bowling pin or something.

Negative. Those types of landmarks need to STAY in OKC and on Rt. 66. I still say there should be an incentive for businesses to use neon along any stretch of Rt. 66 in OKC... ALL past alignments including Beltline 66 (Britton).

I agree. I very much hope the neon sign, at least, finds a home with the Oklahoma History Center or some other similar place. It is a classic icon and will certainly be missed.

I agree w/all of the above...ideally it would be in the following order:

1) The deal falls thru and the bowling alley and sign remain right where they are
2) It stays in OKC (remaining somewhere on the Route 66 alignment) or at the Ok Hist. Cen.
3) It would at least stay in OK (believe the Route 66 museum in Weatherford is on the historic 66 route), not ideal but don't have it as #1 either)
