Well, apparently after saying they were now open, they failed to open this morning. It's pretty amazing that one business can continually, year-after-year fail to keep their hours. Is it still the same ownership?

Wow

Someone else posted that they are indeed now open... Maybe they need to be operating some social media accounts to get out their hours, updates, and message.

Looked like they were open for lunch when I drove by.

I went there today for lunch. I don't think they are quite ready for prime time. I had the baked potato which was pretty good but not hot..warm. Others had a grilled cheese, veggie (bean) burger and a buffalo burger. They said the potatoes were not hot. Service was spotty but, again, they just opened. If you do go, the silverware is back by the RR with the drink machines. It would be a suggestion to the cashier to mention that. It was busy by the time we left so I didn't . The other problem was we order two milkshakes which took asking someone about it. Apparently it had been forgotten. New business missteps that are easily fixed.

Channel 9 says they plan to close due to streetcar construction, then reopen in a few months.

But the rails are in right there so the worst should be over?

Honestly, Kaiser's has been open and closed so many times and for so many reasons it's hard to keep track of it all.

Hate to say this, but maybe it'd be best if they closed permanently and had a good owner or operator come in and do something decent with it rather than have it limp along like it has been...

With so many unsuccessful operators, I'm wondering how much of the problem lies in the building's owners who keep picking these operators. It's a great location with visibility, on-street parking, daytime workers and nighttime residents, and most of their neighbors around the circle have been a success. I'm just wondering...

In always more surprised to hear they are open than closed.

That entire area is thriving and they have a fantastic spot with a wonderful patio.

Something is wrong there and it's not the Saint Anthony construction or the streetcar or whatever other excuse they want to use.

Agreed. Spotty and limited hours, failure to utilize patio, uninspiring menu. As a consumer those are the things that keep it off of my list of regular places when I'm trying to figure out where to grab a bite. Construction is not a factor for me in any way whatsoever. For the record, each week I probably average at least a 12-15 downtown meals/snacks counting breakfasts coffee stops, lunches, happy hours, dinner. I eat within a block of this place at least a few times a week, and very often in one of the places across the street, where it is always packed.

I really want this place to be great. It is a rare dining connection to OKC's history. The space incredible, and no matter the failures I'm convinced the location is incredible. Would love to see them better utilize the sidewalk, plus embrace the evening crowds. They need to be selling after dinner and after drinks ice cream and milkshakes fercryinoutloud. Also, positioning as essentially a burger joint with at least four better burgers very closeby is not good strategy. See Irma's.

They feel to me like a place looking for a reason to close, rather than a place trying to be open.

Maybe they should go strictly ice cream and desserts?

Well, apparently they’re NOT closing.

Owner Peter Schaffer blamed a “miscommunication with restaurant General Manager Jack Pearson prompted Pearson to say earlier Thursday that the business likely would close this weekend.” In the Oklahoman’s article Pearson said, “We weren’t doing great when we were doing good.” Schaffer said they will reduce their hours.

This place is open/closed so often, you can't plan a trip to go eat there. I've been a couple times, nothing great. It sounds like the Owner is demanding criteria for the operator which isn't feasible.

maybe they'll reopen after the light rail is up and running - hopefully to capitalize on the 'new' audience.

appears to be a very nice business plan, wishing them the best!

Somebody sent me this link from September 2014 when Kaiser's closed the last time: http://m.newsok.com/oklahoma-citys-kaisers-closes-historic-building-damaged/article/5338520

They had announced a new concept and website, but the website now directs visitors to a scam site. Several nearby restaurants are still open (McNellie’s, Café do Brasil, Stella, Irma’s, 1492, Louie’s, GoGo Sushi, Waffle Champion, Viceroy Grill and Fassler Hall), and only Prairie Thunder has closed that I can think of. New entrants are Esca Vitae, Kong's Tavern, Hank's Coffee & Wine, Insomnia Cookies. Commonplace Books is about to add a cafe. What a great part of town!

Come to think of it, I think I'll head down to the O Bar and watch the sun go down!

Kaiser’s is also open, or was yesterday. Their own communication on this matter is only making their task more difficult.

It would take multiple people telling me that Kaiser's had vastly improved their burgers for me to go there again. There are just too many better options in that area. I don't have any childhood memories of the place, so I personally wouldn't mind seeing it turned into something else.

I know the current incarnation of Kaiser's probably doesn't deserve it, but can we find out a way to get this moved there?
