In another thread there were some bits and pieces of a conversation that seemed to be talking about a new library that is, or maybe was, to be built in Norman pending a vote. I was just hoping someone could provide some more information? Somehow I missed this news back when it was news.

It was a part of the election in May of 2008. There were three questions - the public safety sales tax for 2 new firehouses and 48 new police-people, the bond issue for improvements at the current library, and a fifty million dollar bond issue for a new library to be located somewhere, possibly the corner of Main and Porter.

The sales tax increase passed, reluctantly. Folk wished that the firehouses and new police had been separate questions. The bond issue for library improvements passed but the bonds have not been offered so we don't have improvements. The bond issue for a new library at some unknown location failed.

There is a lot more to the story than this, of course.
