This is very sad. Unfortunately the area he was in has no official hiking trails. There is no official shortcut from Devil's Bathtub (now called Boulder Springs) to the Prayer Garden. Clearly whatever paths he was on led him off the Falls Creek property.

I grew up on those woods. Sad to hear. :(

Yes it is sad. If this is the same story that aired on the news a few days ago then I feel for this family from Kansas. They said that they've been coming to the area since he was a small child so he was quite familiar with the terrain.

When I was younger I spent a few summers at Camp Classen. One summer our cabin group did a two day hike to Turner Falls. It was lots of fun but I'd have to imagine that we didn't have the heat then that we're having now.
