People in the comments decrying getting investment in ADA-compliant sidewalks as unbridled gentrification that is "ruining" the "character" of the Paseo... *facepalm*

The sidewalks along Walker and in The Paseo are deplorable.

It's hard enough for an able-bodied person to walk along Walker and impossible for someone who is not.

The convenience store is the last hurdle.

Not sure exactly what you mean. Samir has been there through thick and thin in Paseo. It’s almost Paseo’s unofficial town square. Paseo locals are more apt to run into someone there than anywhere else. Some of us remember it as Little Jim’s back in the early 60’s. Yeah, it could look better, but it’s an urban convenience store. The amazing thing is that it’s hardly changed in 60 years+.

I'm glad that the Paseo will be getting improvements, but I am disappointed by the curbs at the intersections being so rounded: that will only help cars and trucks turn at high speeds and ignore the pedestrians in the area. Traffic shaping has advanced much around the world (https://globaldesigningcities.org/publication/global-street-design-guide/designing-streets-people/designing-for-motorists/traffic-calming-strategies/)to handle the combination of transit options and I think the Paseo district and other pedestrian-heavy areas of the city would be well-served to pioneer these methods.

Does Paseo Grill take up the entire building?

No, the southern part has been vacant for some time.

Do they ever have any plans for the huge parking lot right next to the Annex Barber Shop building?

I'm curious as to what the design at 24th and Walker is going to be. Anyone who has sat at the Pump for a couple of hours has seen the near-misses that occur - car/car, car/person, car/bike.

Living in the Paseo and Samirs is a godsend. I probably stop by once a day and get a snack or drink. LEAVE SAMIRS ALONE!

Driving around today I was happy to see ground crews working on the OKC Blvd median & 39th st District landscapes getting rid of the weeds.

Nobody wants them to go away, we just wish they would try harder to help spruce the neighborhood a little bit.

This will be a great improvement for accessibility and being ADA compliant! This will also give the Paseo and cleaner, well kept area!

Really wish they would just close the main Paseo street to vehicles and make it a pedestrian plaza. Make it like Linden St/Old Town Square in Fort Collins, CO.

Agreed. Make it an actual Paseo lol. Would be even cooler with the streetcar going through it.

Those are fighting words around these parts. Tread carefully buddy, Samir's is a pillar of the community.

Yeah I don’t live there but I love Samirs. There’s other parcels that can be developed before we talk about Samirs.

Oski clarified for anyone that missed it. I’d imagine there’s more of a risk no parcels are ever developed again in the Paseo District than there is that the main/only c-store in this area is permanently closed so the lot can be developed with no plans to keep Samir around.

As per the Paseo District's most recent Facebook post:

"We are more than halfway through the Paseo Street Enhancement Project and so much progress has been made! Construction has now begun on 29th Street by Gorō Ramen heading North and the North Side of 28th Street heading towards Paseo Drive. As always, the businesses by the construction will remain open and visitors will not have to worry about accessing their favorite merchants. Stay tuned for more information about the Paseo Street Enhancement Project! "

We were just talking to the woman that owns Vintage Vault yesterday about that and figured it was about halfway done, nice to hear it confirmed.

Also, Paseo Daiquiri Lounge is closed, windows are papered up...

That didn’t last too long. Def miss the Mayan that was there before, so 2 business gone in the span of less than 4 years.

Such a missed opportunity to close this stretch for pedestrian use only which would allow the restaurants to more add patio space. It has virtually no practical value for car traffic other than parking.

They have now converted this parking lot to a pay n park area. Bummed because I get my haircut at Annex and now I will have to cram and walk now (not like walking is bad), but this morning was 11 degrees!

I moved posts related to a recent opinion piece in the Oklahoman about a new development proposed for the Paseo area here:

They are cutting the ribbon on the Paseo streetscape improvements on May 10th.

They wanted to be finished before the Paseo Arts Festival over Memorial Day weekend.

I believe they still have landscaping to do, but all the big stuff is substantially completed. It's a huge improvement... I'll take some photos soon.

They've been working on the finishing touches even past midnight at some times. New pavement and striping really does make everything looks so much nicer.

Now to wait for Walker Ave

Anyone know if they've reinstalled the bike racks that got removed for the construction?

I drove through today and the plantings look fabulous. I'm not sure if what is there is all that will be there but the trees were not tiny.
