NORMAN — One of the looming issues associated with University North Park’s full build out is the uncertainty surrounding Legacy Park, the six- to eight-acre attraction that will one day be surrounded by high-end shopping and entertainment venues unique to Norman.

That was the plan anyway.

“The concept for a lifestyle center was designed when things like a lifestyles center were working,” Bryant said. “The face of retail has changed a little bit, so we have asked the developer to take a look at other things that are going on across the country… to find out what we can do here.”

Nelson said his group simply is trying to get any businesses to come to the area and that lifestyle centers aren’t being built anywhere in the country. He said luring high-end retailers to the area — which is even more challenging with the economy’s recovery still very much in doubt — may come later this decade, if ever at all.

Yikes. Red alert. Alarms.

I agree...yikes...I supported this development, but this has me extremely concerned. If they can't land any high-quality retailers, they need to be told to hold off until the economic situation improves. A car dealership should definitely not be allowed to open up there.
