Hello Everybody,
In 1967 & 68 my dad was big into Boxing here in OKC, So he introduced me to the sport at 8yrs, old in 1967 at the Oklahoma Stockyards Arena, I remember being so scared stepping into the Ring to fight a One minute One round fight . I remember alot of rowdy Cowboys and it was very smokey. So im just wanting to know if anybody remembers these fights and if the Arena is still their, Oh and they were Promoted by Pat Ogrady.

A friend took me and another friend to fights there back in the early 70's. Usually one pretty good main event with prelims of boxers in training against street bums who just swung their arms around for a couple minutes.

My dad was a good friend of Pat O'Grady. In fact dad bought Sean his first
pair of boxing shoes. We went to one of the buildings at the Fairgrounds to
watch boxing. I want to say it was the Transportation building. We always
had ring side seats. Brian Kelly is another friend of the family.
Does anyone has the book "Oklahoma Golden Gloves" by Bill Tharp? I have it
and am looking at it right now. A bunch of memories.

It was said that our assistant principal at Capitol Hill Jr. High was a golden gloves champ. Eugene Chapman.

He may have been, although I didn't see him in the book. I don't know how
to find out at the moment.

I was told yesterday at the Rockin' Reunion that they are having or are going to be having boxing in the old Yale theater on Commerce. Don't know if it is true or not.

My uncles in the early 50's were Golden gloves boxers and Champs....they would come to OKC and box in Tournaments (whatever you called it) and they would box at The old building at the Public Market and the Stockyards arena. I remember them both very well. The Stockyards Arena was where the Boy Scouts would hold the Jamboree. We had a lot of fun there....
