JoninATX 03-21-2014, 11:39 PM Fired for taking pictures? Unless someone's cover has been blown, I don't see the harm of posting pictures that you took.
Dustin 03-21-2014, 11:44 PM Wow that looks awesome!
edcrunk 03-27-2014, 02:37 PM Was it you that told us that you got fired for getting pics atop the Colcord? Yeah, for filming a video. hah...
edcrunk 03-27-2014, 05:21 PM Ha!
Why would he care if it was posted here?
We are on very good terms with the people running that hotel -- I've talked to them directly several times and they are happy to share info and like it when we post photos.
He just wasn't sure they wanted photos out yet and didn't want any reason to jeopardize our contract with them. But once I saw the pics on here... I realized I took pretty much the same pic that had already been posted.
Bellaboo 04-02-2014, 11:24 AM The Mrs was down by there last night and said there was a sign on a door that said opening April 17....
Not sure if this has been posted before...
skanaly 04-02-2014, 11:33 AM When are we going to see landscaping around this cite? Amazing building needs and amazing landscaping architect. I know thats already hooked up, im just curious when some plants and trees might be put in
dankrutka 04-02-2014, 04:03 PM Some new pictures of the pool and such on their Twitter account: https://twitter.com/aloftokc
shawnw 04-02-2014, 04:03 PM The instagram for urbanlivingokc has several pictures from inside.
Chadanth 04-02-2014, 04:07 PM I'll keep asking.... Any word on a restaurant operator or timeline? A bar is cool, but another place to grab dinner is better.
^
They will be serving food in the bar areas.
There is also the large, dedicated space on the far west end of the ground floor that will be leased to an outside operator. I've heard they are close to finding someone, but no official word yet.

Oh, cool. Didn't know they had food in their bar. Thanks.
DammitDan 04-10-2014, 10:07 AM Aloft just tweeted that they're opening 4/16. It's FINALLY happening, guys!
Plutonic Panda 04-10-2014, 12:02 PM I thought it was "finally" happening on the 8th?
shawnw 04-10-2014, 03:43 PM I walked by it last night and it really looked done. Probably just a few things left to do that you can't see from the street...
traxx 04-10-2014, 03:51 PM When are we going to see landscaping around this cite?

I still wish they'd called it Aloft OKC Deep Deuce. But it's a quibble.
Urbanized 04-10-2014, 04:20 PM The Bricktown name remains more marketable to outsiders, so I understand it from a business perspective. It troubles me far less than some of the other places who claim the Bricktown name, but would have been nice for DD if a national hotel brand had the district's name in its name.

That was my thought. They have the weight to be able to give DD some name recognition outside of OKC.
ljbab728 04-15-2014, 12:11 AM Steve's update on the opening.

The opening may be a year late, but after admittedly developing his most ambitious hotel to date, Jim Thompson is preparing for a successful launch of the Aloft Hotel in Deep Deuce this week.
The $18 million, seven-story, 134-room hotel is set for a “soft opening” Wednesday with grand opening celebrations scheduled May 16. Guests will discover a hotel unlike any other in Oklahoma City.

soonerguru 04-15-2014, 07:39 AM The photos appear messed up on the article. Only shows the top half of each image.
EDIT: Just watched the video. Very impressive facility. It's hard to tell, but my only complaint is that the interiors seem very gray. It would be nice to infuse more color, via furniture, art, etc., into the spaces to make them seem less sterile.
Still, this will be a hit.
There were a lot of cars pulling in today when I drove by after work. Kinda weird.
Urbanized 04-15-2014, 07:44 PM The bar is open today, apparently.
Somebody get over there and check it out!
edcrunk 04-15-2014, 08:22 PM Heck, I think I will.
edcrunk 04-15-2014, 09:28 PM It's pretty flippin' awesome! There were a lot of people too.

I have the afternoon off tomorrow and am planning to stop by. I was an event at Micky Mantle's tonight and drove by afterwards. It looked like there was a lot of activity.

icecold 04-16-2014, 02:09 PM So the only thing on the rooftop is a meeting space? No bar? No pool? It looked like the pool had a nice view of the parking garage.?.?.? They should have utilized the abundant roofspace better IMO (if I am reading this correctly).
There is a bar on the west end:

On this morning's news, they were showing how the bar 'lights up' using LED's... If you look at the first picture you can see it with all the dots.
edcrunk 04-16-2014, 03:33 PM The staff was overly friendly. At first I felt as if I walked into a retail store where everyone works on commission. My bartender was really nice tho and answered all my questions. He encouraged me to explore and I did. The upstairs was dark and had multiple areas to lounge.
I can't wait to go back. Tonight and tomorrow the rooms start at $89 and then goes up to $124 for the weekend.
ljbab728 04-16-2014, 04:46 PM I stopped by this afternoon and sales manager, Shaina MacQuarrie, was kind enough to give me a tour. A very interesting fact that she mentioned is that the hotel was built as two buildings for earthquake safety. She showed me the seam on each floor that separates the hotel. Another interesting tidbit is that they deviate from standard Aloft hotels in a number of ways and had to get special permission from Starwood hotels for those differences. Since then Starwood has decided that they like the changes so much they are going to use this hotel as a prototype for their next generation of hotel. They feature art from local artists on the walls of the public areas and the art is for sale.
I was able to see the standard rooms and a Savvy Suite but the 2 floor Celebrity Suite wasn't available to look at.

Shaina also continually emphasized how the hotel is into the green movement. A couple of examples are that the pool is salt water to avoid having to use chemicals and they don't use tablecloths for the tables in the meeting rooms.
PhiAlpha 04-16-2014, 05:33 PM I'm up on the balcony now, this place is awesome. One of the bartenders said the 6th floor isn't open as a bar yet but will be eventually. Hopefully it happens because it's a very cool space and oddly enough it's at one of the few angles downtown that you can't see the Devon tower.

PhiAlpha 04-16-2014, 06:27 PM I was corrected by someone giving a tour. They will have cocktail service in the lounge on the 6th floor.

Anonymous. 04-17-2014, 08:21 AM Did anyone else on the tour catch the part about the pool being open to the public? I found that hard to believe, so just checking on possible misunderstanding.
Also last night they had those dancing spotlights going out front that made downtown look awesome. Especially with Thunder and Barons games, downtown looked even more big league.

Ummm, that would be very cool. I may give them a call to check on that...
I went last night to wxyz. It was very nice and the setting feels very urban. This district has really come alive. The urban experience is now available in Oklahoma City.
ChadOSU 04-17-2014, 12:44 PM So is there actually a bar on the rooftop? Or they are just providing cocktail service up there?
ljbab728 04-17-2014, 11:14 PM When I was shown around the hotel nothing was mentioned about the pool being open to the public. That wasn't something that would occur to me to ask and it seems like it would be a very unusual thing for an urban hotel to do. It's not a large pool so I wouldn't think they would want to take away from the experience of their guests by inviting the public. They do things a little differently than some hotels so it's possible they could.

Unfortunately, my eyes were immediately drawn to the "awesome" update in progress to the Santa Fe Garage. That downtown skyline would be even better if they could do something different with that garage... Anyway, sorry for the off-topic comment. Loving the Aloft pics, everyone!
betts 04-18-2014, 07:12 AM I'd heard they were considering selling pool memberships so perhaps that is what they meant about the pool being open to the public.
kevinpate 04-18-2014, 07:22 AM Pool area seems rather tight for space. If they are selling off access memberships, they must not expect their regular guest count to have much desire to use the space.
Bellaboo 04-18-2014, 07:26 AM Looks as if the Parkside Building will very quite visible from the deck when complete. Will help with the view.

Since LEVEL and the Deep Deuce Apartments have a pool, I suspect there would be a limited number of people interested. We, however, would be very interested, as that's about the only thing we miss about our last house and yard.

I agree about the garage. Something needs to be done with that monstrosity. And it would be very cool to have something done with the large parking lot down there.
Urban Pioneer 04-18-2014, 09:43 AM I'm kind of tired of pools that aren't big enough to actually swim in.
Remember, Don Karchmer is still actively working with the City to fill in that big lot in the foreground with an office/parking structure and it would pretty much block the old Santa Fe Garage.
Urban Pioneer 04-18-2014, 09:45 AM Let's hope that the quality of that garage is something we would actually want to look at and... that they leave our damn rail alignment alone.
HangryHippo 04-18-2014, 09:46 AM I'm kind of tired of pools that aren't big enough to actually swim in.
Does seem to be a trend with this pool, the one at Ambassador, the Bricktown hotels...
The original proposal looked pretty sharp and I know they have been working with the City to preserve the rail corridor.
Urban Pioneer 04-18-2014, 09:49 AM They do have spatial concerns. And I would rather them have a pool than not have a pool. But as a swimmer, I wish there were more outdoor options that you could actually swim in.
Urban Pioneer 04-18-2014, 09:53 AM The original proposal looked pretty sharp and I know they have been working with the City to preserve the rail corridor.
Let's just hope that involves the maximum potentially needed space and curvature and not the minimum requirements. If they are going to preserve it as promised, hopefully it will be designed to accommodate all phases of the planned future rail system and not simply the minimum to maximize the development potential to the developer for the short term. Sorry for the cynicism, just been around the block a few times.
I understand.
Of course, everything now is just conceptual. Before moving forward there would be the usual design approval process .
OklahomaNick 04-18-2014, 10:23 AM It's interesting that the Devon Tower is COMPLETELY blocked from view by the Chase building!
benjenn 04-18-2014, 10:39 AM I'm with Betts on the pool thing... was just saying to my husband this morning it's been a long time since we haven't had access to a pool, even though we never seemed to use it much. Still, not having it is going to make me miss it. I'd love it if Aloft opened it up to public access or memberships. That would be cool...
