View Full Version : Aloft Hotel
OKCisOK4me 10-04-2013, 01:20 PM Thanks for the photos as usual. But I must say, I am sick of Aloft pictures. This project is like a bad dream during a coma. It will never end.
Do they only have so much scaffolding? I mean come on now, this project is slow as molasses. A snail would win this race, lol.
Steve mentioned in his blog that Aloft is shooting for a January opening.

I hope their aim is better than is has been in the past. LOL

To be fair, every other hotel completed recently is basically a big box. This has a far more complex exterior. While I wish it had been faced in stone, it actually looks pretty good. And quite soon there will be no more reason for pictures until its ready to open, as the exterior is very close to complete. It's almost time for sidewalks and landscaping.
OKCisOK4me 10-25-2013, 11:13 AM ...and parking garage, which is just as much a snail's pace as everything else.

Not much to see here...

OKCisOK4me 11-08-2013, 07:04 PM I guess that confirms the snails pace of their parking garage lol.
ljbab728 11-09-2013, 12:25 AM Is it still set to open in 2016 or has it been pushed back a little?

urbanCOWBOY 11-09-2013, 08:20 AM Hope for January. The exterior is almost complete, and the interior should be like clockwork. Deep Deuce is about to see a very, very dramatic change.

Patiently waiting Aloft.

Praedura 11-19-2013, 09:35 AM That is a VERY COOL photo! But there's something odd about it. I think it must be the long exposure that smoothed out the building facade -- it makes it look more like a rendering than an actual photo.
But you can see already what a "pizzaz" factor this building adds to the street / area.
kevin lee 11-19-2013, 05:46 PM I think it's because the traffic light is yellow and green at the same time LOL!!!

It looks like a rendering because of the glass at the top on the west side…but if you look at the glass on the bottom of the west side, it looks real
catch22 11-20-2013, 09:30 AM Often on a slow-shutter shot, small vibrations of the tripod (traffic movement, wind, etc.) will cause the "smoothing" out. The building "moves" in the frame by a very small margin and it blurs.
ourulz2000 11-20-2013, 09:32 AM Can anyone get a night shot of this from far away against the skyline?
HOT ROD 11-20-2013, 06:22 PM it does look nice, in fact - looks like the nicest hotel in the city.

It is a hot mess, architecturally. However, it is great for the neighborhood.
catch22 11-20-2013, 09:55 PM ^ Agree. I like the renderings. But in person, I want to like it, but somehow don't.

That's funny, cause I don't really like the renderings, but I like it in person.

No doubt. Haha. It's not my favorite design & I've seen Aloft's that I like much better design wise, but I can live with the look & style of this one.

It's like Aloft is creating an Oklahoma Blues that will be played as a jazz tune at the WSKY Lounge...

OKCisOK4me 11-21-2013, 01:45 PM Is that parking garage going any higher or is it at its limitation? I can't imagine they'd block the south room views.
shawnw 11-21-2013, 01:50 PM Looks like there are cars parked on it. Wouldn't think you could do that if it were still being constructed...
I'll be a lot happier when they finish up the sidewalks and restore the street to full capacity.
They are killing Native Roots with the unholy mess at that intersection.

Look at the images at the top and the third one from the left shows the parking garage will be 2 stories.

If you would look at the drawings / renderings you can see what their intentions are.

With the opening happening soon and with their bars/restaurants and with Urban Johnnie's, hopefully all that extra foot traffic boosts Native Roots sufficiently... I know they need it!

OKCisOK4me, can't you see the cars that are parked on it????? JEEZE!!!! lol j/k ;)

How about this photo by Tony Hochstetler?

Yeah, I sourced that pic when I posted it to the Favorite Skyline Shots thread. Probably should have done so here as well. Ok, I'll rectify that now.

Praedura 11-28-2013, 10:40 AM An OKC misty/foggy skyline shot -- I like how the Aloft Hotel proudly juts out above Deep Deuce.

(side note: oh how I love the fall leaves)
The Aloft really dominates that section of the skyline. Of course, that view will fill in even more when the Holiday Inn Express is finished.
UnFrSaKn 12-02-2013, 06:38 PM The Aloft sign is up now. They just finished after sun down. It's not lit yet. I did night photos.
Chadanth 12-02-2013, 06:43 PM Maybe there's an end in sight to the "build that never ends". Have they contracted a restaurant operator yet?

Plutonic Panda 12-03-2013, 08:37 AM Would be nice to see that huge parking lot under the bridge consolidated into a structured garage with a smaller footprint and maybe have an entertainment park/casual park with one part of it having a trail with a small pond(I mean something like a 30,000 gallon Coy pond or something) with a skate park and some other sporting activities there. Perhaps an outdoor archery range or something cool.
Praedura 12-03-2013, 11:00 AM Whoa! Awesome shots Will.
Holy smokes, look at how great that building looks at night. And it's still relatively dark. Imagine that when it's open for business and all the interior lights are on.
Cool sign too.
warreng88 12-03-2013, 11:05 AM They are obviously getting closer to finishing the outside, do we know how things are coming along on the inside?
GoThunder 12-03-2013, 12:10 PM Forgive me if this has been discussed before, but is the signage not going up under the roof overhang like in the rendering? I'm not saying I don't like it where it is, but I'm just a little confused. Is it going ground level on the east side, and up high on the west side?

That might just be the last thing they do.

If you look at the renderings in the article on top of the page, you'll see there will be a very similar sign mounted just below the illuminated roof.
warreng88 12-03-2013, 01:06 PM It looks like there will be three aloft signs on the building, one at ground level by the covered area facing Walnut and two under the roof line on either end of the hotel facing east and west.
catch22 12-03-2013, 01:07 PM Too bad there isn't one facing South.

Ah, I see that now after looking more closely.
Too bad there isn't one facing South.
Yes, the south elevation is the most visible and it's incredibly plain given all the design detail on the other three sides.
Too bad there isn't one facing South.
I agree. Even if no sign, at least not as boring as it looks now. But otherwise, the whole thing looks pretty cool.
