Actually I think it is eight. If look closely, there is another layer of concrete slab on top of what appears to be the "top floor wall" in that photo. (just to left of the crane)

There are six floors now largely completed with one more to come.

The area on the roof like looks like a terrace isn't... It's purely ornamental:

I think 10 stories would have been even better. Perhaps they low-balled the estimates for usage/occupancy just to be on the safe side. A few years down the line, the owners might well be wishing it had more rooms/capacity.

With all the hotels being built in bricktown/Deep Deuce over the next 5 to 10 years, I doubt they'll be wishing that for that anytime in the next 20 years.

It seems that there is an ongoing trend of 4 story apartments, and 6-8 story hotels in Bricktown/Deep Deuce. I think the trend is a good thing, as it brings identity to both areas, let's save larger housing and hospitality projects for the CBD.

I've heard that the areas labeled "suite" will actually be for sale, and that the owner will live (at least part of the time) in the top one. I'm guessing that's the one labeled "two story suite".

Interesting - I walked into their office on 2nd St just to ask what would be for sale (thinking exactly along those lines that would there be condos for sale inside Aloft), but was told by the employee that the "for sale" sign on their office door applied to prospective bar/restaurant owners only.

Aloft may consider expanding it's presence in the OKC area, I know here in Austin there is one planned on the Northwest side of town the other Aloft which is already open is by The Domain in North Austin. Although a W Hotel may pop up in downtown OKC oneday.

I am not sure what you are saying. If you go to post number 605 in this thread there is a picture addressing what the question was asking. It has nothing to do with being in OKC or away from OKC.

It shouldn't be long before the framwork is complete and we should see walls. Most of the north side of the building has studs up. They're working on the top floor, but with the roof shape as is is, I'm not exactly sure how much will be on the top floor.

I was referring to people living in OKC if they have the necessary means of transportation available should be able to just look at Aloft with their own eyes rather than go back to post #605 (which is probably more convenient anyway and something I did not do cause I drove by yesterday). Nothing personal, yo :-)

They're putting steel beams up on the top floor of Aloft now. I wonder how soon they'll be putting the roof on. The framework for the building looks great, but the roof is going to dramatically change our neighborhood "skyline".

Dubya61

Not quite.

Inductive loops, which are what these sensors are, detect a change in induction capacity. A conductive, metallic object will increase this capacity by adding improving electrical flow potential within the core's loop. Any object that then increases capacity, can cause the sensor to trigger.

The trick to bicycles is that while the sensor is always "checking" for increased induction, it oftentimes isn't set sensitive enough. Since the loop is always "live" there has to be a threshold set for the light to trigger.

Bicycles don't add much to the loop's core. Just not enough metal in them. To increase your chances of increasing the induction capacity sufficient for a sensor trigger, put your bike either on the line itself (less distance/resistance for the core) or angle your bike so that it transects both the vertical and horizontal cut in the pavement (where the wire is). This is your best chance at leveraging the bike's 'core enhancing properties', if you will.

Crossing the right-angle corner is also how most of these sensors are tested. They have a measured metallic object that is set on the ground over the corner of the loop. If it triggers the sensor, then the loop is sensitive enough. I haven't seen it done, but I assume they same method could be used to calibrate the sensitivity the other way (trigger on less inductive capacity).

And here I always thought it was the flux capacitor.

Thanks, Pete. It's becoming harder for me to get around and take photos of the city, enjoy it as much as I do. I've got a few more to post of a building around 12th & Shartel that has probably been posted about here, but which was new to me, as well as a few skyline shots from the east side looking toward downtown. I'm going to drive by the Shartel development shortly to see if the workmen will tell me what's going on there.

I was down by there just a little while ago. Driving up from the north of it, the little extra heighth seems to add some needed vertical mass to the area and visually starts to extend downtown and helps fill the gap over to the med center. It is amazing what just a few more feet does to change perceptions. Coming back from btown and the south it was also significant.
