It won't - Shane was a very large driver in that effort for IQC. He'll move it along best he can.

You know - this type of venue does exist - The Winchester Drive In on south Western. It's a little out of the downtown area, but it is a great place to hang out and watch movies during the summer. It was unfortunately closed this summer due to the spring tornadoes doing some damage (anyone have an update?) but it is a really nice place to hang out with your family.

Glad to see they're finally doing something with this place. However, I wish it was something different.

Over Labor Day weekend, the family and I went to Dallas/Ft. Worth area to see some friends. While in Ft. Worth, we went to the Coyote Drive-In. Very cool place. It's located close to downtown Ft. Worth; probably closer proximity than the Airpark is to our downtown. Check out the website: Home | Coyote Drive-In (http://www.coyotedrive-in.com/)

As you'll be able to see in the scrolling photos, beautiful downtown Ft. Worth is in the background. They open around 6:00 PM, and people can eat and drink, and kids can play in a small palyground area, before their movie starts. They have a pavillion area that serves food, beer, and even a wine bar. On the night we went, there were also 2 food trucks there. One serving Mexican food, the other serving BBQ. Also, on the night we were there, they had 2 birthday parties going on in front of a duo playing live music.

The whole time we were there I was thinking I wish we had something like this in OKC. I even thought the Airpark would be a perfect location for this type of venue here.

Of course, I come back to OKCTalk and see it's being used for something else. If security does become an issue at the concerts, maybe this concept will become a viable alternative.

I apologize if this has already been discussed. Back to lurking.

Been told by the best possible source that Blair Humphreys and company are in the process of buying the 36.5 acres directly east of this property, owned by Chesapeake.

They are still working on the big picture plan but obviously they are up to something big.

The County Assessor just posted this sale which closed on 3/4/14.

Paid Chesapeake $2 million for the 36.5 acres; CHK paid $1.5 million in 2007.

Actually, with taxes paid over the years and broker's commissions, probably not.

But this is the best they've made out thus far.

Working on a write-up on the tens of millions they lost on NH Plaza and Classen Curve now that the sales prices are public.

Saw an advertisement in the Gazette and then saw details posted on pollstar.com that several concerts have been announced . On 5/2 and 5/3, the Rollin' Thunder Rally comes to OKC with Lynyrd Skynyrd on 5/2 and Big & Rich on 5/3. Not a huge fan of either of those (FREEBIRD!) but glad that area is getting some more concerts. Then on 7/10/2014, Rascal Flatts, Sheryl Crow and Glorianna are there. And on 8/30/2014, REO Speedwagon and Chicago. probably not going to any of these, but glad there is some activity in the area.

Looks like Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, Asking Alexandria, Trivium, Cannibal Corpse, Body Count (featuring Ice T) and many more will be coming to the DT Airpark as part of the 2014 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival on August 7th. OKC has been toward the last date on the tour every year since 2009 and the concert has always taken place at the Zoo Amphitheater. Glad to see the Airpark getting a festival like this and hope it brings in more.

I had just posted (and now removed) about a possible food truck court for the Airpark but I just spoke to Blair Humphreys and realized there was some confusion and that in fact they merely have some food trucks in conjunction with the Wheeler Criterium races they have been hosting: www.wheelercriterium.com/.

Blair did say that they are making good progress on their overall plan and that we should be seeing something relatively soon. Didn't want to go into details at this point as to what may be included or the timeline but it's clear they are focused and want to make this happen in the near future.

Looks like The Summer Nationals Tour is coming through OKC at the DT Airpark with The Offspring, Bad Religion and Pennywise. The reason this a big deal is that this is redoing a tour that was originally a show in 1994 at the Hollywood Palladium where the three bands headlined a three day sold out show at the venue. Fans of The Offspring can expect them to perform the album Smash from start to finish. The other two bands will play normal sets, but the Offspring set would be interesting to see.

If only this project could get back on track.....somewhere there's a ferris wheel collecting a massive amount of dust too.

35 acres is about 3 times what you'd need for a stadium footprint, but the other 2/3 is probably what you'd need for 20k worth of parking. Pretty good fit for space if you ask me. And it's in a good location too!

One of the cooler things about this coming to town is not just where they are going, but where they are not going. This tour is not going to Texas, at all, so people from Texas might be coming in to see the show from there, Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri people as well. It is playing the NE a lot, then four dates in Florida, Atlanta, OKC, Colorado, Utah, Vegas, Arizona, Cali, Ohio, Milwaukee and Iowa. Not sure if this is a promo thing or what but good job DT airpark...

Yes, it's basically Blair Humphreys & Co. soliciting ideas for their project. The own pretty much everything on the south side of the river in the "district" and the City owns everything on the north side:

I really wish the city of OKC would start investing in aesthetics to help distinguish these "districts" from each other. Houston is a good example of this. The designated districts have their own style of lamp posts, street signs, and even stoplights that are unique to that neighborhood.

http://www.city-data.com/forum/attachments/houston/88330-san-francisco-houston-postoaksanfelipe_streetsign_night_2778.137.jpg

http://westchasedistrict.com/wp-content/uploads/Westchase-Signs-16.jpg

This is just one example. Without something to distinguish these districts and make them unique, its rather pointless to keep designating them.

The entire Project 180 project did exactly this for the CBD.

Auto Alley has bricked crosswalks and tons of signage, a boatload of neon and a unique and very elaborate Christmas light display. Midtown has it's own unique free-standing signs. Film Row has completely unique crosswalks and signage. Uptown has it's own signage, as does the Asian district, Western Ave, etc. Bricktown has tons of unique elements. Many other examples as well.

The Project 180 stuff is larger scale than just about any district improvements I can think of anywhere, just not as flashy as those signs in Houston.

I saw those signs in the Galleria in Houston. I've been all over Houston and did not see any other signs like those on Post Oak Road in the Galleria.

The last time I was at the Galleria, they had a road or two that was practically impassable. Hopefully they've fixed them since last year.

There is more money in the Galleria district than the entire state of Oklahoma. Some things just aren't going to happen.

I think the hanging rings could be cool for the Blvd, but the entire nation would call it the Galleria knock-off rings.

If "Wheeler" is being held onto as an identity for this area, they should, IMO, fight to maintain the integrity of the park (e.g. in contrast to what C2S wants to do with it), work towards improvements of the park, and establish some history by placing landmarks and indicating things like site of OKC's first zoo and such.

Sorry for the tangent everyone, this is my fault so Pete feel free to move/delete.

Bellaire has a very high resident income base (if I were to guess nowhere near River Oaks, The Woodlands, and the Memorial villages) but that isn't necessarily something they can tax. I forget how Texas' tax structure is set up specifically but I know it is very ad valorem based, but again that primarily goes to schools and not roads. Oklahoma municipalities are highly dependent on retail, which explains why Nichols Hills' budget is hurting right now. They've even had to cut down on police tanks.

Just so we'll all know -

According to 2011 CityData -

Per capita income & Single family Housing -
Bellaire - over 150,000 & 604,000
River Oaks - 117,300 & 906,000
The Woodlands - 105,000 &- 277,000

Bellaire has the most income -
River Oaks has the most expensive housing by far.
