Anyone have any good eats suggestions heading out I-40 east towards Lake Tenkiller? Okemah, Checotah, Braggs, Gore, Warner or anywhere else you can think of.

We go up through Tulsa and down the Muskogee Turnpike to get to Tenkiller... CuatrodeMayo 05-25-2010, 03:56 PM Used to eat at the Hungry Traveler in Henryetta many years ago on our way to TK. I think the Pig-Out-Palace is there as well, lol. Easy180 05-25-2010, 04:37 PM Gore has Fin n Feather resort I believe...used to have a great buffet RealJimbo 05-25-2010, 04:54 PM Pretty close in, but Curtis Watson's restaurant at the McLoud exit is good. It looks pretty unlikely but really good. I also prefer going through Tulsa, like OKCisOK4me. Lots of great eating places that direction. White River Fish Market in Tulsa on N. Sheridan, Jamil's on 51st east of Harvard, Spudder off S. Sheridan near 51st, Bill & Ruth's sandwiches all over town, Green Onion on 51st west of Yale, Ri-Le Vietnamese on 91st and S. Yale, Bodean's on 51st East of Harvard...lots of good places there. Okie's in Muskogee, Runt's in Muskogee. kevinpate 05-25-2010, 07:57 PM You aren't gonna find truffle butter and such along the way, but this side of Henryetta, and N side of interstate is Pig-Out Palace (across to the S side of 40 is Hungry Traveler. If that's too far out, hit the Robinsons at mile marker 200, S side of 40 (assuming it is still there.) Never been myself but Grape Valley Ranch is near Okemah, not sure what they offer beyond wine tasting Fin and feather at Gore and slide into Tenkiller on the west side afterwards Aniother 15 miles or so east of the Vian Tenkjiller turnoff is Sallisaw and just to the south on 259 is Wild Horse Mountain BBQ. Couple of decent spots in Sallisaw, but again, you're passing your destination to go there. I was surprised to see that folks went north to Tulsa and then back south to go to tenkiller. Thought never occurred to me. But then, I've been running 40 since the late 70's back and forth to sallisaw and points south, so that's why. easternobserver 05-26-2010, 12:53 AM There is a barbeque place in Enterprise that is amazing. Guess that would be a little out of the way though. Its south of the dam on 71 if I remember right. metro 05-26-2010, 09:17 AM Gore has Fin n Feather resort I believe...used to have a great buffet Dude, that place is the WEIRDEST place I have been to in my entire life. The wife and I ate there last year. It's like eating in a timewarp/funeral parlor where zombies walk around serving jello and other weird stuff. All I can say is WEIRDDDDDDDDDDDDDD. Definitely won't be eating there again this year. Doesn't have to be truffle butter, I love whole in the wall places just as much as truffle butter places. LOVEEEE me some Robinsons, they have the best smoked meats. Will definitely hit that up for taking a stash home. Grape Valley Ranch, been there done that, they don't really have eats. Might try the BBQ place though, yeah I don't get the whole Tulsa route either, seems like it would add a lot more miles going that route. About the mileage, not real sure, but it takes me less time to go that way, maybe because we live about 2 miles from the west end of the Turner T-Pike. I know, right? The kitch in me loves it, tho. If you want a real time-warp, head across the parking lot to Fin-Bin, the local arcade. |
