Prunepicker 05-11-2010, 11:25 PM Do you remember the "egg" chair? You're talking about the chairs that looked like an egg and had speakers in them. They were cool. gen70 05-12-2010, 05:56 AM You're talking about the chairs that looked like an egg and had speakers in them. They were cool. Yeah! gen70 05-12-2010, 05:58 AM You're talking about the chairs that looked like an egg and had speakers in them. They were cool. That's right! FRISKY 05-12-2010, 06:35 AM Do you remember the "egg" chair?I remember those. gen70 05-12-2010, 07:15 AM I remember those. I saw one of those chairs advertised the other day like it was a new concept. papaOU 05-12-2010, 08:46 AM I saw one of those chairs advertised the other day like it was a new concept. Do you know of anyone ever buying one? SOUTHSIDE GIRL 05-12-2010, 10:20 AM The two cars I loved were a 1978 Olds Cutless Supreme convertible. 442 engine. It was perfect for PapaOU; Red with white top and interior. Second was a 1973 Fiat X-19! Man that car would move and was a pretty good chick magnet as well. Loved it until engine problems timing belt broke and I had to send to Italy for engine parts. Shipping was more than the items bought. First car ( in highschool ) was 1969 pontiac catalina 4 doors it was hugh.... First car I bought was a new 1974 Cutless Supreme olds 442 engine (are you drooling papaou) No.....it was blue with a black hard top. Dream car 1969 Chev Camaro SS convertible .....red with white interior....found one almost like it but the asking price was 70,000.00 guess I will keep dreaming. gen70 05-12-2010, 10:20 AM Do you know of anyone ever buying one? No, but I would have bought one in 1969 if they hadn't been so high priced. sam greenroyd 05-12-2010, 10:29 AM I bought my 4-track player at that place on 10th & Penn.. Can't remember the name of the store or make of the player. I do remember they quit making 4-track players soon after.(kinda like the beta thing) The name of the store at 10th and penn. was Muntz Stero and they sold there own 4 track. The guy rebuilding our Model A is working on a '69 Camaro SS convertible with every option available from Chevrolet. I'll be worth close to $100,000 when it's finished. It's black. Prunepicker 05-12-2010, 10:42 AM The name of the store at 10th and penn. was Muntz Stero and they sold there own 4 track. Perhaps it was Muntz Stereo and the two sections were called Tape Town and Stereo City. You could be right, i asked someone and they told me that so who knows? Prunepicker 05-12-2010, 03:25 PM You could be right, i asked someone and they told me that so who knows? Tape Town and Stereo City were definitely on the building and used in their commercials. sam greenroyd 05-12-2010, 03:48 PM Tape Town and Stereo City were definitely on the building and used in their commercials. Too long ago for me to remember for sure but i do remember tape town and stero city. This was back in 1966 or 67 could it have been Stereo City then? I was too busy wanting one of those new fangled 4 track radios and to listen to Johnny Rivers. gen70 05-12-2010, 06:28 PM Johnny Rivers tunes are good cruisers. CarltonsKeeper 05-12-2010, 07:00 PM I bought my first 4 track in 1965 from Stero City which was a Muntz system at N.W. 10th & Penn. Their sign was white and printed in red letters, quite large.. Stero City!! I recently purchased (off Ebay) a like new 4 track Muntz Home unit which I didn't even know they made. I kept all of my 4 track tapes!! (I wish I still had my old 4-track stuff) papaOU 05-12-2010, 11:49 PM Watched a documentary about the Doors on PBS. Their first album was recorded on the "new state of the art" 4 track. Prunepicker 05-13-2010, 12:05 AM Watched a documentary about the Doors on PBS. Their first album was recorded on the "new state of the art" 4 track. That would have been a 4 track studio recorder. George Martin patched 2 together for Sgt. Pepper. Not sure if that was the first time it was done. skyrick 05-13-2010, 06:17 AM Watched a documentary about the Doors on PBS. Their first album was recorded on the "new state of the art" 4 track. Sargent Pepper by the Beatles was considered revolutionary in 1967 because it was the first album recorded on an 8 track recorder. Now these 4 & 8 tracks aren't the same tape as the cartridges we used in our cars. I think it was one inch wide. Edit: Oops! You're right PP. I wiki'd SPLHCB and the first commercial 8 track recorders were not available in GB until late '67. Sgt Pepper was released June 1. RealJimbo 05-13-2010, 07:10 AM Anyone want an 8-track player? And some tapes? My later mother in law had them and I can't make myself get rid of them. It is hard to believe how blown away I was when I installed my first Craig 8-track player. I'm always a "late adopter" so I missed the 4-track era, short as it was. I had a couple of 4-track tapes that required a gadget to be inserted in the bottom hole to play on my 8-track player. Jimi Hendrix's Axis, Bold as Love album was really mind-blowing in my '65 Malibu SS when it came to the cut that was supposed to be an interview with a space alien. sam greenroyd 05-13-2010, 07:32 AM I bought my first 4 track in 1965 from Stero City which was a Muntz system at N.W. 10th & Penn. Someone said it would erase the tape. I don't know if it was true or an urban legend.... RealJimbo 05-13-2010, 11:37 AM By the way, did you ever have to "rewind" one of those tapes by hand? It was pretty tricky. gen70 05-13-2010, 12:20 PM I remember that my 4-track player had a lever that pulled the head inside the tape. Prunepicker 05-13-2010, 10:47 PM Edit: Oops! You're right PP. I was a devout historian of Beatology and Beatlelian the arts. Prunepicker 05-13-2010, 10:49 PM Does anyone remember the adapters you could put in your 4 track tape so it would play in an 8 track player? Of course I had one. I don't know why, because I never owned an 8 track player. Maybe it was so my tapes could play in my friends cars. skyrick 05-13-2010, 11:21 PM You dared to doubt the word of the all knowing PP! Double Edge 05-23-2010, 03:00 PM My grandparents bought one new and gave it to me in their later years. It was not in the greatest condition and I bartered with a guy to restore it. That deal kind of fell apart but he eventually made good on his end somewhat, buying one that had been restored on Ebay and giving it to me instead. I have my grandparents original case too but lost the electronics in the deal. Double Edge 05-23-2010, 03:16 PM My other grandmother had the first multi-track player I ever saw. Paul Newman with Joanne Woodward, set in Mississippi. I think the family patriarch in that one was Orson Welles though, not Burl Ives. Oh! Back on topic! Hmmmm... how about The Ventures Live in Japan 1965? Just released a year or two ago. Those guys rocked live! Unfortunately, band founder and original lead guitarist, Bob Bogle, died last year.
