Prunepicker 12-04-2010, 02:55 PM I ate at Ted's on S. Western last week and was surprised as to how good

might try it next week!

Thanks papa..... I hadn't read the paper yet today, so I probably would have missed the article. So good to hear Jerry and Marilyn reminisce about the old Hollie's days. Every time I see Jerry, he talks about opening up another one soon.... sure wish he would.

Did Jerry and Marilyn own Hollies when whippersnappers like me
were cruising the joint?
I remember ordering beer over the intercom and the car hop
taking it back because I looked under age. So I was 17...
Most women would have wanted to marry me if they had
seen me...
Okay, so most women did see me and didn't want to marry me...
It was a good try... it was a good try don't you agree?
I'm awaiting an answer...
Are you going to answer?
Okay, I'll give it another year... or two...
You're not about to answer, are you?
I didn't think so... I'll give it another year, though...
maybe two... or three...

No, Jerry didn't own the original Hollie's downtown (he graduated from Grant in 1965).... he owned the Hollie's 50's 60's club which opened in 1985. Marilyn was his manager the whole time it existed (18 years). You should read the article and watch the video.....

I think it was called tommys and had great little hamburgers that were like 3 for a dollar. This was around 1980 or so i also recall they had a small picnic table outside to sit at.

gen70 12-14-2010, 06:14 AM Didn't know there was a A-1 cafe in Britton and I should have posted E. of Ann Arbor.

Would it have been where Ann's is now? Larry's was just east of
Ann Arbor. Which side of the street was it? What decade are
you talking about?
gen70 12-14-2010, 12:14 PM It was W. of Ann's on the S. side. It was there in the 60's and was just a plate lunch special kinda place.
corpsman 12-14-2010, 06:28 PM Didn't know there was a A-1 cafe in Britton and I should have posted E. of Ann Arbor.

lostincolorado 12-15-2010, 04:27 PM I remember when I was still in grade school in the early 60's we lived over in Weatherford but on special occassions we would come to OKC to shop, mainly for school clothes.
We would always stop in at Shipmans. Mainly for their biscuits...........

I'm jones for some right now............... :dizzy:
skyrick 12-20-2010, 10:10 PM Anyone remember "Arry's Fish and Chips? It was somewhere between NW 30th & NW 36 on the east side of N Pennsylvania. This would have been 1971-72. Also in that same neighborhood was a little Italian place, can't remember the name though. It was the first place I ever had canneloni.

The Italian place was Tony's Italian Specialties - where Rococo is now.

What kind of food is served at Rococo's?

The Italian restaurant was Tony's Italian Specialties. It was
at NW 28th and N. Penn. Great food and the best juke box in
town. Tony closed about 6 or 7 years ago. A new Italian
Restaurant moved in and is very upscale. I haven't eaten
there but have gigged there.
I don't remember the fish and chips place.
papaOU 01-20-2011, 06:32 PM Anybody know a place that serves fried mush?
jmarkross 01-20-2011, 06:43 PM Anybody know a place that serves fried mush?
You need to go east of here...and below the Mason-Dixon Line...but--bring your own syrup, they put other stuff on it...
Also--it is not the hardest stuff to make...just have to know the frying technique...

Molasses?
jmarkross 01-21-2011, 09:25 AM Molasses?
I have seen people put salt on it...yikes. Griffin's syrup works for me. Molasses never appealed to me...useful in cooking but unpleasant tasting straight up...
flintysooner 01-21-2011, 09:29 AM Molasses never appealed to me...useful in cooking but unpleasant tasting straight up...I love molasses although only in rather small quantities and infrequently.
Am I confused or was there once a restaurant called 'Heritage House' around NW Expressway and May?
jmarkross 01-21-2011, 09:54 AM I love molasses although only in rather small quantities and infrequently.
Molasses is a funny thing...if you acquired the taste as a kid...it is good to you. We seldom had any at home when I was a kid and it was no match for other various types of syrup. But--I do know many who use it often. Myself...a really good maple syrup--one that is not too thin is best, but impossible to find. Only found it in New England, when I lived for a while in New Hampshire...it was "boiled down" to make it much thicker. My grandmother made fried "mush"...I remember the big block of it she sliced. I suspect she fried it in lard in those times (1950's) and as you probably know...most chefs consider that the Cadillac of Oils for frying...despite the health dangers...
Prunepicker 01-21-2011, 11:21 AM Am I confused or was there once a restaurant called 'Heritage

It was located where N.W. Expressway intersects with N.W. 63rd.
Heritage House was a buffet.
Filifan 01-21-2011, 12:03 PM Am I confused or was there once a restaurant called 'Heritage House' around NW Expressway and May?
Heritage House was in the same building as what is now Hometown Buffet
Thanks for confirming my memory isn't warped. :-)

Is that also the place known as "The White House"?
ljbab728 01-22-2011, 12:27 AM Is that also the place known as "The White House"?
The only White House I remember was in a large converted house near the Cowboy Hall of Fame. It was a great place to take a date to empress.

The last time I looked, that building was still in use as an office building. I was only there once and it was very good.

The Everest Mansion was converted into office space after a fire in 1989.
Here is an article from the Journal Record/Bnet dated September 8, 2000: Kaisers to turn White House into office complex (http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4182/is_20000908/ai_n10140320/).

No. The White House was east of the Cowboy Hall of Fame.
jmarkross 01-22-2011, 04:39 PM Does anyone remember Captain's Table?
MikeOKC 01-22-2011, 04:48 PM Does anyone remember Captain's Table?
Absolutely. Top floor of the building way out west (or it was then) on NW 23rd street. I don't know the name of the building.
jmarkross 01-22-2011, 04:49 PM Absolutely. Top floor of the building way out west (or it was then) on NW 23rd street. I don't know the name of the building.
I thought it was a very nice seafood restaurant back in the late 60's...great view...comical--I say that like it was yesterday and it was well over 40 years ago...
bluedogok 01-22-2011, 04:54 PM No. The White House was east of the Cowboy Hall of Fame.
The White House is by 63rd & Kelly, behind the gas station on the southwest corner. It's about a half mile west of the Cowboy Hall of Fame which is at 63rd & Prospect/Grand Blvd.
ctchandler 01-22-2011, 05:19 PM No. The White House was east of the Cowboy Hall of Fame.
Were you thinking of the Haunted House?
C. T.
ctchandler 01-22-2011, 05:36 PM No. The White House was east of the Cowboy Hall of Fame.
Actually, I don't know which side of the Cowboy Hall of Fame it is on, I believe it is just west of Eastern but since I have only been there, and driven by it thousands (no exaggeration) of times, what do I know? Senility is a terrible thing, but I will survive.
C. T.
bluedogok 01-22-2011, 06:14 PM After Prune's post I checked out the location on Google Earth....just to be sure my memory was correct.
ctchandler 01-22-2011, 06:56 PM After Prune's post I checked out the location on Google Earth....just to be sure my memory was correct.
Actually, there is nothing between the Cowboy Hall of Fame and Eastern except a field where things like "Chuckwagon" events are held. So the White House has to be near Kelly.

zachtaylor alum 01-22-2011, 08:20 PM Wasn't there a Tommy's just east of Western on Britton?
I remember a Tommy's in a diner that looked like a travel trailer south of 50th right on Western. (Maybe 48th Street?). They had amazing burgers and it was like a railroad dining car. I don't think there were there anytime after the '70's.
kevinpate 01-22-2011, 09:29 PM If memory serves, The White House in question is presently the Abel Law Firm, 900 NE 63rd St
