If the ones at McAlister's are anything like Jason's Deli, they are probably pretty good.

CarltonsKeeper must have reached a Hispanic working in a French restaurant.

I am glad you found one.

I just called La Baguette on N. May and the muffaletta is on
the menu. You don't have to order 35.

La Baguette 840-3047

I'm guessing this would be good. I've never be disappointed in the food at La Baguette, whether N. May or the ones in Norman (different operators).

It's remarkable to me that a "chain" like Jason's can be consistently good. I like both their traditional Muffaletta and the turkey version. They also make a killer Reuben or turkey Reuben.

there's something your kids will never remember:.........Pumping Gas.....(as a service)...how about checking the oil and the air in the tires...or, "topping" off the fluids...even anti-freeze?.....the kids do know that you have to do those things don't they?

I realize it is a little off topic. But, it was like a restaurant to me when my mom or dad would ask:...want a coke?...can I have an RC Cola? and some peanuts.....The peanuts would be in a penny vending machine and my dad would give me 3 or 4 cents and buy the RC....Dinner in heaven I thought.....a true restaurant in the car....you would be so careful NOT to SPILL the drink....Not because you'd get in trouble but because you wanted to savor every ounce.....sometimes I'd get a Grapette and moon pie....Redneck I'm sure and proud of it. I couldn't eat a moon pie now to save myself. I bet pennyquilts was a moonpie person, I know Carltonskeeper was and probably still is.

I learned so much from this job as a teenager that im an Auto Mechanic but thats not the profession that im in today , I miss the 70's I had a Bad A$$ 1969 Dodge Charger and when I would get off from the service station I would go race on NW 39th then end up at NW HI Way Drive Inn or Hillcrest Drive Inn. he, he, I lost my Virginity in that Dodge Charger with My first love and first Heartbreak.

It's not true in OKC yet, but kids in a lot of places will never know about dialing 7 digits instead of 10 to make a phone call. My sisters and niece are still surprised when they visit us down here in Arlington and have to dial the area code with every local call.

In New Jersey and Oregon it is illegal to pump your own gas. An Attendent at the station must do it for you. In New Jersey it is influenced by union pressure while in Oregon I am not sure, but it may be for some environmental issue. I used to like Roy Rodger's roast beef much better than Arby's. Roy Rodgers Roast beef was juicey while Arby's tastes dry to me. I am not sure what company owns Roy Rodgers now, but Marriot owned it at one time. I remember when they closed all of the Roy Rodger's in Oklahoma and Texas. For some reason it is still popular on the East Coast.

Many years ago (grade school age) Roy Rodgers (notice the D) would come around the grade schools in OKC area and put on small time show....His gimmick was ventriloquism (sp) and a dog. He would always claim the Leonard Sly (Roy Rogers) had stolen his name and to keep his name he had to put a D in his last name....believed him for a long time. I grew in Davis and know exactly where the turn around was, Ballard's Drivein on West side of Davis (Pizza Hut is located there now. The other drivein was on the North Side of Davis @ Womack's Drivein (Highyway 77 North). Drove between the two drivein's many miles every Friday and Saturday night. Also went to Sulphur to drag around Dove's on many occasions (where Love's is located now). Knew Gary Dove, son of the owner. Spent many nights at the move drivein theater just West of Dove's also watching movies.

I graduated from Davis in 66'

Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were actually married on Flying "L" Ranch just North of Doughtery Oklahoma, Southeast of Davis. They were filming a movie in the area at the time. John Wayne would come to Murray County from time to time to the Turner Ranch Cattle auctions.

Some questions and comments -
There was a restaurant on the west side of Lincoln, near the capitol. It was rustic and had mounted animal heads on the walls. It had been there when my uncle was stationed at Tinker in the mid-50's and was still there when I first moved to OKC in 1967. Later I think it was torn down when they expanded the capitol area. Anybody know what it was?

Was there more than one Buster T. Browns? We went to one at Reno and Meridian but I think there was one on the north side, too.

How about a cafeteria, maybe downtown, with a woman's first and last name. Gee, I'm really reaching back for these!

I lived in Oklahoma for 60 years before we moved to western Washington state. When we were back home in April, our first and last meals in town were the Del Rancho/Chuck House steak sandwiches. I took a picture and have carried it around like a pinup picture. The owner of our favorite brewpub showed it to the chef but it hasn't shown up on the menu yet.

Recently I was at a physical therapy session and the guys were talking about burger restaurants. One of them asked if anyone there had ever been to a Sonic. The closest one around here is an hour away. Uh, yeah, having lived in OKC for 40 years, I believe I've been to Sonic a few (hundred) times!! I miss those silly commercials.

About all that I can remember about Cattleman's Cafeteria was that they had a fountain/wishing well thing. I got in trouble by my parents for putting a nickle in it once. My dad fished it out and replaced it with a penney. Wasn't Kress' department store right accross the street? I think DHS or something is in that building now.

I was working out in Sacramento 6 years ago doing cell site surveys, the group that I was working with lived in the area and kept talking about this "great burger place in Modesto", we were going to go there for lunch after visiting the cell site nearby. We pulled into a Sonic, the first one in the area and I just laughed and told them these were like Subway stores in OKC, no matter where you are in town there is one less than three miles from you.
