View Full Version : OKC in the playoffs?? Am I dreaming??
earlywinegareth 04-03-2010, 02:30 PM Is this really happening?? I still can't believe there's a team with the words Oklahoma City on their chest that beat the Lakers and Celtics just a few days apart...only the two most successful NBA franchises in history...and a win vs Dallas tonight clinches a playoff berth. Unfreakinbelievable!
:woowoo:
kevinpate 04-03-2010, 03:17 PM Hope it goes well. It does appear to be going far better far earlier than most suspected.
(including me)
megax11 04-03-2010, 03:19 PM I don't see us beating Dallas tonight, as beating the Lakers and Celtics were flukes in my opinion. We still have a ways to before the huge teams are truly afraid of us.
I do see us winning tomorrow though, against the Timberwolves, but odd things can happen, and we could even lose to them.
dmoor82 04-03-2010, 05:52 PM ^^^ Flukes???? No I dont think so,The Lakers and Celtics are down right now esp. Boston at home! and this was just two regular season wins! so no fluke here!
HOT ROD 04-03-2010, 08:50 PM fluke?
it's halftime and OKC is ahead by 8 points. ....
Oh, and I am proud to report - that Oklahoma City is getting prime exposure overseas, as I am watching this game (OKC-DAL) LIVE on Chinese television (CCTV5), here in China.
It's halftime right now, and they are doing round-up from the league but the broadcast on Chinese TV appears to be from NBA-TV.
OMG, those uniforms look ridiculous - other than that, OKC looks superb and is getting the Xposure!!
SkyWestOKC 04-03-2010, 09:50 PM 108-95. Man I'm going to regret staying up this late to watch the game, I think it's worth it though.
HOT ROD 04-03-2010, 10:16 PM it's official now
but BOY, do we have a young team that gave up a lot of points in the end. .....
CCOKC 04-03-2010, 11:10 PM I wondered why there was an add on the scorer's table in Chinese. That makes sense now.
TaoMaas 04-04-2010, 06:19 AM Anytime a team can beat the Lakers, the Celtics, and the Mavs in short order, it's no fluke. Could we win a series with each of those teams? Eh...that's another story. But, hey...tonight we earned the chance to find out how those series might turn out, right? I'm happy that we've made the playoffs, but I think Coach Brooks has his work cut out for him in motivating this team next year. I think this season has partially been built upon the Thunder proving themselves to the rest of the league. Okay...now we've done that and nobody is going to take us lightly next year. Now what? On another note, have the rest of you been watching the NCAA tournament and picking players who would fit into the Thunder system? lol
metro 04-04-2010, 08:56 AM Win a series? Heck I'm an optimist and let's pull for them to win it all! No one thought we'd make the playoffs this season, let's be the underdog again in the playoffs!
ddavidson8 04-04-2010, 10:42 AM I hate to say this after the fact, but I had OKC winning last night. Dallas is miserable against the spread at home.
ddavidson8 04-04-2010, 10:43 AM As far as winning in the playoffs, it depends on their seed. The NBA has the most cussed up playoff seeding ever. It makes no sense at all.

Honestly, I think the Thunder could win it all, but I'm forbidden to make such predictions because my wife thinks I'm a jinx. Every time we tune into the game and I get excited about how far ahead we are, that's a sure sign that we're going to blow the lead. LOL
mugofbeer 04-04-2010, 01:43 PM How loud will Loud City get for the home games? Bring your ear plugs!
MikeOKC 04-04-2010, 02:47 PM Playoff experience is going to do this team a world of good. Of course anything could happen, but two losses at home with the big wins of late show that the Thunder need the big man in the middle for realistic playoff advancement. This team is an excellent basketball team. Lots of youth, energy, a bonafide superstar, but still lacking in the middle. I have confidence in Sam Presti and am sure that gap will be fixed. I think the Thunder are looking to the next 2-3 years for a realistic shot at an NBA championship. But just getting to the playoffs this year is HUGE. But again, in sports, anything can happen.
mugofbeer 04-04-2010, 09:10 PM Hey, who-da thought Butler would be in the champeenship game?
gmwise 04-04-2010, 11:04 PM Giving credit where and when its due.
Congrats Thunder for going this far, and I hope you make it further.
MonkeesFan 04-05-2010, 06:37 AM Enjoy it while it lasts since the Thunder will have a first round exit
betts 04-05-2010, 08:40 AM Enjoy it while it lasts since the Thunder will have a first round exit
Most likely they will. On the other hand, they'll gain valuable experience that can be applied when the time comes that they've got the tools to take their game farther than the first round.
Considering that I thought we would win 35 games this year if we were lucky, I'm thrilled we have a chance to play in any round. 48 wins, with the possibility of more, exceeds my wildest expectations.

haha how does it make no sense at all? best record gets number 1 seed, second best record gets 2 seed, and so on...what is so cussed up about that?
OU Adonis 04-05-2010, 09:28 AM haha how does it make no sense at all? best record gets number 1 seed, second best record gets 2 seed, and so on...what is so cussed up about that?
Because they Re-seed every round.
If your the 8th seed and you beat the 1 seed and you advance to the 2nd round, you will play the toughest remaining seed for your 2nd round game (since you were the lowest seed to advance).
OU Adonis 04-05-2010, 02:30 PM I was wrong, they don't reseed. I got that information from the Thunder announcers.

Kerry 04-05-2010, 02:43 PM The only way it is screwy is if a division champ is outside the top 4. The three division champs have to be in the top four seeds. It could very well happen that Dallas could end up with the 5th best record and still be the 4 seed.
metro 04-05-2010, 03:39 PM So who more than likely do they anticipate us playing 1st round?
nik4411 04-05-2010, 04:15 PM kind of hard to predict it. there are 3 teams tied for 2nd place. all of these teams are separated by only a few games. it will come down to the last games. its crazy how much better the western conference is than the eastern conference right now.

So right about the Eastern Conference.
I am hoping we end up with Utah in the 1R. We match up well with the Jazz and is, probably, our best hope for advancing. Others might think differently. Who does everyone want to face in the first round?
nik4411 04-05-2010, 05:37 PM im with you mike. i would love to end up playing utah...we are 3-0 against them this season.
PHXguyinOKC 04-05-2010, 07:19 PM pretty exciting. i'll be rooting for the Thunder unless they're playing the Suns
dmoor82 04-05-2010, 09:30 PM Wow! I was just on Tulsanow, and a couple of forumers there are bashing OKC and The Thunder, saying OKC is snobs, and making The playoffs in The NBA isnt important! I'd say winning more than twice The amount of games as the previous two years combined is a big deal, not to mention we get to witness The evolution of The NBA's next great superstar in KD!

Rod, It's no big deal. Coming here to continue the silliness does no good.
Watson410 04-05-2010, 10:06 PM Dallas/Denver/Utah/Phoenix are all tied for 2nd with the Thunder currently sitting in 6th, 1.5 games back of 2nd place. We probably won't know for sure who we play in the first round until April 14th. 2009-10 NBA Regular Season Conference Standings - National Basketball Association - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/nba/standings)
Watson410 04-05-2010, 10:10 PM I hope we play either the Jazz or Mavs.. As nik said earlier, we're 3-0 against the Jazz this season (hopefully 4-0 this time tomorrow night) and we ALWAYS play the Mavs close, we create match up problems with Dallas.. we could definitely win a first round series against either of those teams.

Wouldn't the Thunder knocking the Mavs out of the playoffs in the first round be sweet revenge against some of Mark Cuban's comments about the NBA in Oklahoma City? Storybook!
gmwise 04-06-2010, 12:03 AM I have to say I was not a fan of anything to do with the Thunder.
But , those kids are playing very well and had a great season.
I really detest crow, can I substitute it with grilled chicken..pretty please?!
OKCisOK4me 04-06-2010, 12:57 AM Still 6 games left in the regular season Gmwise. Strap on your Thunder gear and watch them play the Utah Jazz tomorrow (today) night @ 8pm!
Does this mean we get a playoffs appearance banner in the rafters at the end of this season? Or only if we win a series?
HOT ROD 04-06-2010, 03:24 AM it's ok gmwise. :)
you can eat chicken with the rest of us! Enjoy the run - I hope it goes as far as possible
As to the matchup, I dont mind it being the mavs or the jazz - I just hope OKC has the home court advantage - and #2 seed would be just unbelievable!!! Awesome.
OMG - that would do wonders for Oklahoma City. I mentioned the press they are getting here in China, Imagine a top playoff seed (and then wins!!!).
wow.
gmwise 04-06-2010, 06:22 AM I'm on facebook, (originally it was just for people from my high school years).
And my buddies ranging from Afghanistan to Zaire is fans of the Thunder.
Kinda amazing

is that the same gear i used to keep the aliens/the government from listening to my mind?! lol
so1rfan 04-06-2010, 09:11 AM I bet there is not a team from the Lakers down that wants to face the Thunder in the first round. The possibility for upset is too great. Who wants to get beat by a bunch of upstarts in a small market town?
Bring them on. I would be shocked if we lost our first round match-up.
metro 04-06-2010, 09:36 AM bring on the bandwagon fans! but hey we can use their support too!
Kerry 04-06-2010, 09:55 AM So who more than likely do they anticipate us playing 1st round?
The Thunder are 1.5 games out of the 2 seed and 1.5 games away from the 8th seed. Tonight will be huge with the game against Utah. Win this one and the Thunder are looking at a top 4 seed. Lose and it might be an 8 seed.
Of the four team tied for second, we play three of them in the next four days (and just beat the fourth ((Dallas)) on Saturday). Ask again on Friday night.
Thunder 04-11-2010, 01:45 AM Someone want to clear this up with the Eastern and Western conference? How does this work? Is there playoffs for each of the conference and then a national title game for each of the conference? Or is it when one team beat everyone in their own conference compete with the one other team beat everyone in their own conference for the national title?
PHXguyinOKC 04-11-2010, 05:50 AM western conf teams only play western conf teams in the playoffs and then play the best eastern conf team in the finals.... just like AL v NL in MLB, NFC v AFC in NFL, West v East in NHL
windowphobe 04-11-2010, 05:50 PM Think of it as being like the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA tournament, with eight in the East and eight in the West. Eventually, one survivor from each conference will meet in the Finals.
(Major difference: NCAA is one-and-done, NBA playoffs are best-of-seven.)

After blowing it tonight though, looks like it'll be 4 and done against the Lakers. /sigh
NickFiggins 04-12-2010, 01:20 AM After blowing it tonight though, looks like it'll be 4 and done against the Lakers. /sigh
The worst part is that down the stretch the Thunder have forgotten the defensive fundamentals, that got them in the playoffs to begin. I hate the Sun's style game we are playing now.
Thunder 04-12-2010, 05:46 AM After blowing it tonight though, looks like it'll be 4 and done against the Lakers. /sigh
You're saying that Thunder lost against Memphis and that first round of the playoff the Thunder will play the Lakers?
dcsooner 04-12-2010, 06:17 AM I am saying the Thunder NOW seem to be content with just making the playoffs and their hunger for more may be lost. Last night loss was really inexcusable from any perspective for a hungry playoff team
OKBound 04-12-2010, 12:56 PM Maybe last night's loss will be the wake up call they need. Go Thunder!!
Thunder 04-12-2010, 08:19 PM What's going on? Did we play Memphis yet or not? Someone saying a game tonight will be huge?
Watson410 04-12-2010, 08:23 PM The Thunder SHOULD be content with making the playoffs! Name one person on this forum, in OKC, or in the national media, ANYBODY that would have thought OKC would even be in the 8th seed at the end of this season (and be completely honest)... I'm probably the biggest Thunder fan and follow them so close it's sick sometimes, and even I didn't think they would be in the playoffs come early April. Everyone needs to remember this team is still VERY VERY young and STILL lack experience. For ANY team in ANY sport to be successful in playoffs/post season, you must first have experience.. track record proves that..
Kerry 04-13-2010, 07:03 AM What's going on? Did we play Memphis yet or not? Someone saying a game tonight will be huge?
The game last night was against Portland. It determined the final seeding (7 or 8) for OKC. The Thunder lost so we get the 8th seed and play the Lakers in the first round. The game against Memphis doesn't mean anything so expect a Thunder loss.
As for playing the Lakers in the first round, I think we have a chance to win that series. If any playoff team is playing worse than the Thunder, it is the Lakers. The only reason the Lakers clinched first place so early is that they played so many of their first games at home (22 of their first 26 games). Once they went on the road they started losing and barley held on to the number 1 spot.
SkyWestOKC 04-13-2010, 07:12 AM Regardless of what happens with the Memphis game we are going to be the 8th seed, which plays the Lakers.
The loss to Salt Lake City - and how it happened, destroyed our momentum and energy.

I just started a thread for the party so others will see it.. Should be fun! I personally hope there's alcoholic beverages! :dizzy:
earlywinegareth 04-14-2010, 11:11 AM Now I need to find a Thunder car flag...yeah, I'll fly it as long as we're in the playoffs.
CCOKC 04-14-2010, 11:14 PM Tonight at the game they gave out car flags. They also announced to tell everyone who was not at the game to go to Homeland wearing something Thunder and they will give you a free car flag. My job here is done.
