"Slim Chickens" (which I assume is at least a passing reference to the actor "Slim Pickens") just opened today, Friday, June 12th. Judging by their menu (also available on their website), I'd guess it is similar to the Raising Cane's chicken place on 12th & Alameda.
Although Slim's is not a stand-alone building, it does have a drive-thru. It's on Classen/HWY 77, just a little south of Constitution Street.

From the combos, I wouldn't be able to tell that Slim Chickens and Raising Canes were different restaurants. . .

Looks like the go a bit farther than Cane's with salads, wraps and wings...but yeah. Even their chicken finger plates look identical to Cane's. Oh to have some variety on the East side...is that asking too much?

Is anybody going to try it out where the old Starbucks used to be on South Western?

They have good chicken tenders and more variety than Raising Cane's. But they can't beat the sauce at Cane's. Still, it's a good addition to the wide selection of tenders from Cane's and Chicken Express.

I heard a rumor on Twitter that a new restaurant is going in on Kelly Street in Edmond called Slim Pickens. Does anyone know anything about them?

More than likely your twitter source is in error. Google the pickens name with restaurant and see if anything comes up. Have a good Labor Day Weekend.

It looks to be the same Slim Chickens that's opening a second location in Norman:

"EDMOND — The Edmond Planning Commission approved a variance 3-0 Tuesday evening to allow a sign on a canopy for a proposed Slim Chickens Restaurant at 555 S. Kelly."

It's going in where Taco John's had it's last spectacular failure trying expand into Oklahoma. It's on Kelly just south of Second Street.

Maybe they shoulda added a Taco Thursdays special to the lineup to try and stay open.

There seems to be a run on ff chicken places in the metro the last few years. I guess folks are chowing down.
I tend to prefer it broiled at home and seasoned with whatever it is my reason for breathing puts on it.

Because the sign's just not as rock-solid as SoonerQueen's Twitter posting, I'm afraid. That's on the Internet, so it has to be true. Thank you, though.

Slim Chickens is good, I've tried it a few times when I was in Norman. If you've had Raising Cane's, Cane's sauce is better.

Though I like the fries and chicken better at Slim's.

I can't see trying it either...that is kind of a bad place for a fast food restaurant (being next to a funeral home doesn't help). I would imagine that is why no one else has lasted there.

I like the one in East Norman alot. Norman seems to have all the chicken places. Chicken Express, Churches, KFC, Raising Caines, Slim Chickens...all within like 5 miles. I think Slim Chickens has the freshest fried chicken strips, although i am a glutten for Chicken Express sometimes. I think Slims is a good place to eat as far as fast food goes.

Seems like there was back around 02-03 on E Lindsey or E Alameda. Someone over that way used to sell a real spicy chicken and I don't recall Express or Church's being located over that way going that far back. I'm thinking they went in late 07 or early 08ish

There have been a couple of things. I think there was something there short term. The original owner was Taco Johns.

Debzkidz
12-28-2010, 07:19 PM
It's been vacant as long as I've lived here. Seems like there were still some signs up when we first moved here. I recall them saying something about wraps. I didn't realize there had ever been a Jason's Deli there. It seems awfully small for one of their locations.

Steve

Jason's Deli was never in the Slim Chicken's spot. It was a tea lunch kind of place last from what I remember.

This. You don't have to have your tenders fried. I got some grilled strips not too long ago and with their sauce, they were awesome. Love Slim Chickens!
