View Full Version : "Spring Break"....did you go anywhere???
Generals64 03-15-2010, 07:09 PM The best I can remember about Spring break was getting to Hunt Easter Eggs. I think we might have gotten out of school the Friday before Easter?????that my folks was Spring Break for the kids at Chester A. Arthur for a Long time....Hope everyone is having a good time.....
Midtowner 03-15-2010, 07:55 PM We didn't really have money to go anywhere, so my sister and I just relished the break from schoolwork. I did, however, often end up going (at least in high school) to the regional speech and debate tournament over the break since it fell during that time. That was always a blast--got to stay in a hotel, met new people, saw old friends from far away schools, kicked the pants off other schools in CX debate. Memories.
I still love staying in hotels, mostly because I think it was such a rare thing for me when I was younger!
Now that I'm older, spring break more or less means spring cleaning, and I can catch up on sleep and housework that gets pushed aside since teaching kind of takes over my life the rest of the time!
Midtowner 03-15-2010, 07:55 PM Error...bandnerd posting on Mid's computer. Ignore.

FRISKY 03-16-2010, 07:15 AM I went to a beach in Florida a couple times and also a beach on the Texas Gulf a couple times.
I didn't always make it back to school on time, but I had lots of fun!

My wife taught speech and debate. I often had the job of judging when they were short a judge. I HATED judging CX. It still gives me a headache when I think about the pace and the "cadence" the participants would set up. Yikes! It is hard enough to judge speech, but add "speed-talk" and it is a laid-back kind of guy's private little hell.
RealJimbo 03-16-2010, 07:45 AM By the way, being a "Class of '66" geezer, I can tell you in no uncertain terms, there was no Spring Break when I was in school. And had there been, we were too poor to go anywhere other than my uncle's farm. Until I was married a few years, vacation was ALWAYS staying with relatives or camping out on the ground at the lake.

Prunepicker 03-18-2010, 11:18 PM Spring Break? I thought that only happened in the movies, i.e. "Where the
Boys Are", "Palm Springs Weekend".
