Anyone interested in a city builder/sim should check out Cities: Skylines.
Cities: Skylines on Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/255710/)

Cities: Skylines is a modern take on the classic city simulation. The game introduces new game play elements to realize the thrill and hardships of creating and maintaining a real city whilst expanding on some well-established tropes of the city building experience.

From the makers of the Cities in Motion franchise, the game boasts a fully realized transport system. It also includes the ability to mod the game to suit your play style as a fine counter balance to the layered and challenging simulation. You’re only limited by your imagination, so take control and reach for the sky!

Main features: ◾Multi-tiered and challenging simulation: Constructing your city from the ground up is easy to learn, but hard to master. Playing as the mayor of your city you’ll be faced with balancing essential requirements such as education, water electricity, police, fire fighting, healthcare and much more along with your citys real economy system. Citizens within your city react fluidly, with gravitas and with an air of authenticity to a multitude of game play scenarios.

◾Extensive local traffic simulation: Colossal Orders extensive experience developing the Cities in Motion series is fully utilized in a fully fleshed out and well-crafted transport systems.

◾Districts and Policies: Be more than just an administrator from city hall. Designating parts of your city as a district results in the application of policies which results in you rising to the status of Mayor for your own city.

◾Extensive modding support: Build or improve on existing maps and structures. You can then import them into the game, share them as well as download the creations of other city builders on the Steam workshop

Some of the mods in the steam workshop look awesome. You can create terrain/map of anything, then build on it as you like. Would be nice to see a OKC mod!

I thought about posting this when I heard of it but didn't know where a good place to post it was. I think someone could do some cool stuff with this with regards to our city.

That would be a great idea as the game has the engine for it.
It is my first "city builder" so I am kind of learning my way around. The map editor doesn't look that complicated to others I have seen though.

Ok, so I bought the new Cities: Skylines game and have beeen playing if for a few days now, here is my review:

So if you are SimCity fan, this is a game that you can tell they got ideas from, pretty much the same set up.

Pros: 1. The different types of roads you can build are pretty cool, from dirt roads to 6 lane expressways with cloverleafs, can make extensive transportation infrastructure.
2. The fact that you can designate different types of districts in your city is pretty nice, and naming them and developing each district in its own unique way.
3. The different types of achievement buildings you can earn are nice. From super malls to plazas to medical centers, is really unique.
4. You can also create mixed-use developments with residential/commercial development developing into each other is also great.

Cons: 1. You basically have to have a supercomputer with all the bells & whistles to experience the full graphics & game play. I have a pretty good laptop, not top of the line, but brand new and decent, but I am somewhat limited on the graphics and game play because I don't have the top of the line graphic card. So if you just have a basic computer or laptop you will not get the full experience.

2. The developers of the game put WAY too much emphasis on utilities: water, power, sewage, & trash. Most of your time will be consumed on connecting water pipes, making a power grid, or solving a trash problem. This really takes away from the game play because 50% of your time is consumed by managing utilities.

3. Roads take up too much space, unlike SimCity, roads took up one little block, on this game is takes of like 3-4 blocks, which is not cool.

4. Residential buildings abandon fairly quickly due to no power, no water, high crime rate, or fire. They abandon if a very short time, and your constantly have to demolish buildings.

5.. Way too many fires, its seems like there are constantly buildings on fire, and your fire department can't get too them all so you constantly have to demolish those buildings.

Overall, its a decent game, nothing too different from the last SimCity installment SimCity: Societies. But if you want to build the perfect city with gleaming skyscrapers and mansions on every corner, this game is not for you, it will take a lot of time and starting over to achieve. This game has big emphasis on design & planning, its realistic, & does not feel like a game, more like work, lol. So if you just want to have fun playing a game stick with SimCity. If you want to get a Masters degree in Urban Planning, play Cities: Skylines, lol.

I have a three year old Macbook Pro and the game runs on High graphics for me. Not too many issues on that.

The utilities can be annoying but after a few cities I had a good system to making it more manageable.

I agree on the roads.

I also have not really seen this happen for me. If they don't have power I usually pause and fix the issue. Unless I am out of cash...

The fires were solved for me with using the fire stations. The fire houses are completely useless. You have to have stations or nothing.

I check reddit.com/r/citiesskylines for all the mods and other fun things. People are a lot better at the game than I!

Definitely look at the Workshop through Steam for mods for the game. Several of the mods have actually already been patched into the core game by the Devs, so the community is really help to address some issues before the standard official patching can take place. It also gives you access to a ton of buildings and different interchange types. I'm still hoping they introduce more road options like they had with Cities in Motion 2.

I always heard they wanted to stay away from a ninja-like game as Ninja Gaiden and others have similar genres. Though as they run out of ideas I could see them moving to that.

Kinda surprised I haven't seen this on the boards, but what does everybody think about ESPN showing the Heroes of the Dorm finals? I personally love it, I am a huge E-Sports fan and watch a lot of League of Legends and Heroes of the Storm competitions and tournaments. I know people say that it's not a sport so it shouldn't be on ESPN, but if the likes of a spelling bee or poker can be played on ESPN surely there is room for E-Sports.

I enjoy watching esports. I generally watch Twitch during bigger tournaments. I am partial to Dota2. The International is always entertaining.

However, putting it on ESPN really doesn't matter. I can't imagine this brings new people in. If you like esports you are already watching in client or on Twitch.

Alright, it is that time of year. E3 will be here faster than we know it, and I want to know what is everybody looking forward to this year? I myself am always excited for what Nintendo is going to show, I am also pretty excited about the new PC area that will be there this year. I have always felt that the PC gamers are left out of E3 and this year it looks like Blizzard, AMD, Bohemia Interactive, Boss Key Productions, Paradox, Dean Hall, Tripwire, and more have gotten together with PCGamer.com to have their own show this year which I think will be pretty awesome.

Anyway, what about you guys anything this year you guys are particularly excited for?

Admitting that I'm too old to play video games, I'd still love a "Portal 3." I think the first two Portal games were one of the most inventive video games ever created. For my taste as a parent, it was a welcome departure from the (for me) rather violent FPS-type games that seem to pervade the market, combined with the fact it mandated some fairly good thinking and puzzle-solving skills to complete. I kept hoping they might actually do a Portal 3, but I guess that ship has long sailed now. Alas.

Now, admitting to my age a bit, wandering through the new Sam's in Moore last week revealed a minor monster that would have deprived my wallet of $2,500 had that kind of spare change been laying around: a retro, console-style, multi-game PAC-MAN arcade-style game. It was set up very much like its contemporaries of that era, perhaps a slighly smaller configuration, and with a nice, flat LCD screen instead of a tube. The firmware was set up with something like ten different games of that era in addition to PAC-MAN, , eg Galaga, Galaxians, Dig Dug, etc. A great throwback for someone my age :)

EDIT: I *think* it was actually this guy: http://www.hayneedle.com/product/pacmansarcadepartycabaretbynamco.cfm?redirect=fals e&source=pla&kwid=GameTables%20Low&tid=CDC038-1&adtype=pla&kw=&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=CDC038-1&gclid=Cj0KEQjwy7qrBRC4lp7_hM3dgIoBEiQA72pCnsCN2oyq ax6Hw28isgUFOU08Obsw5bksfDPmTfmjJCgaAiAR8P8HAQ

Source 2 (Valves new game engine) is close to coming out for Dota 2. I would imagine a slew of new titles from Valve coming soon. Portal does well so I would expect a new one in a few years. Great games btw.

You can build arcade cabinets for much less and run an emulator to play pretty much any game. Most likely a lot cheaper than $2500. I was thinking about building one next summer for my extra garage man cave. I think it would be a really fun project!

Splatoon has been out for a week now, and I must say it's an awesome game. I was really on the fence about buying it but after watching a full day of people streaming it I decided to throw down the money for it. I'm a very competitive person so it's good there is no voice chat built in, because I am that guy that rages especially in a team game where the team doesn't know what the hell they are doing. People complain about the "Lack of Content" which yes there is, but we are already getting our second piece of FREE DLC tomorrow, If they keep this up through the summer than I can't really complain. If anybody else has a WiiU out there feel free to add me on the friends list, my Nintendo Network ID is the same as my username on here.
