View Full Version : Video Games decepticobra 05-19-2010, 02:26 PM you can play tons of classic nes, snes and genesis games for free on Every Video Game » Arcade (http://www.everyvideogame.com) Jethrol 05-19-2010, 06:05 PM I like video games a lot, but I do not like having to pay so much money for something that has the potential to suck so much of my time away. (I reserve time sucking for watching movies and television shows on Netflix, Hulu, and through torrents ;) lol) So since I am cheap, but still like to play the occasional game, I have found a couple of resources online. Kongregate: Play free games online (http://www.kongregate.com/) This site has a lot of fun, free, and easy to get into games. My personal favorites would be "Infectonator: World Dominator" Play Infectonator : World Dominator, a free online game on Kongregate (http://www.kongregate.com/games/TogeProductions/infectonator-world-dominator) You go from less developed countries and cities to progressively more developed countries trying to infect their inhabitants with the zombie plague. and, "Boxhead: 2Play Rooms" Play Boxhead: 2Play Rooms, a free online game on Kongregate (http://www.kongregate.com/games/SeanCooper/boxhead-2play-rooms) You kill zombies in that one. Kongregate is free for membership, and through signing up you can actually save your progress games. How cool is that? The other site I like is the Retro Game Room at Vizzed Board - Play Retro Classic Games roms Online For Free (http://www.vizzed.com/vizzedboard/retro/) Here you can play games from all sorts of older consoles and computers ranging from AppleII & Atari to Nintendo 64 and Gameboy Advanced. I spent a few days playing Earthbound from the SNES platform. It was awesome. It has save features as well, out of game ... for some of those games like Zelda where you didn't really have an in-game save. Finally, if you want to relive your Zork days, or for those of you who don't know and want to get into a fun old-school text based adventure, check out Z-Engine (http://zorkonline.net/zengine-0.4.3/) Where you can play Zork 1, 2, & 3. I don't know about a save feature here. I rushed through the first one in a couple of hours one morning. Hope someone appreciates these free online gaming options. I know I have had hours of fun with all of them. That's awesome!!! Thanks for the links! I just d/l it......the opening scene is awesome. ddavidson8 12-13-2010, 09:06 AM I spent almost all of my Thanksgiving break on Dead Rising 2. Richard at Remax 12-17-2010, 11:15 AM Im finishing up assassins creed brotherhood (which is also really good if you liked the first two) and I plan on going back and playing the Red Dead Zombie expansion BBatesokc 12-17-2010, 01:03 PM I am lucky enough to be married to a wife who likes video games too (so she doesn't complain when I play). We prefer first person shooters. Right now we both play Red Dead Redemption. Problem is, we can 'waste' and entire Saturday or Sunday if we are not careful. We limit ourselves to about once a month on our PS3. We both have SmartPhones, iPod Touches and iPads, so we do play the occasional game on those. I still have a working Intellivision with lots of games. About once a year I get nostalgic and hook it up and play. About once a year I get nostalgic and hook it up and play. You are indeed lucky to have such a wife as I think it would be fun to have someone that was also into games in my life. 'tis a rare breed tho. And wow about the intellivision. I used to play that for hours and hours at my friends house many moons ago. I loved the racing game, sea battle and the skiing game. Great stuff but my controllers didn't hold up over time and I ended up trashing the system back in the 90s. MadMonk 12-29-2010, 04:20 PM For Christmas, we got the kids the Kinect for our Xbox 360. It's a lot better than I thought it would be. The game that comes with it is a lot of fun and a good intro on how it works. We also got the Motion Sports title and it's fun and challenging. Hopefully more titles will be coming soon to take advantage of it. Jethrol 12-31-2010, 03:11 PM I'm d/l Team Fortress 2 on Steam right now. $5 as a holiday special. I have a friend that's played TF2 for years and he just keeps raving about how awesome it is. I can't wait. If you have a steam account, log in and check out all the great game deals. If you don't have a steam account, get one....there's some awesome offers but time is running out. Dustin 01-01-2011, 06:13 PM I only play pc games nowadays. I was a huge 360 fan until I found out how amazing computer graphics are compared to a console. The games I play the most are COD:BO, COD:MW2, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, and minecraft. Richard at Remax 01-01-2011, 07:29 PM I prefer PC to consoles as well, the games are made better, look better, are cheaper, and the mouse/keyboard combo is way better than a controller. the only downside to PC is that you have to update it every 3-5 years to keep up with the game engines. Ya I can't stand playing on the 360 anymore. I suck. Its like I picked up the controller for the first time in my life... Once you go pc, you never go back. Also, I'm a fanatic, so I upgrade about every year or so. Newegg is my friend. Have you bought 'Reckless Racing' or 'SimCity DLX' for iPad? Those are the two we are playing quite a bit on our idevices. I like where their 1st person shooters are going, but I still don't like the controls yet. I'm going to look around and see if I can find Black Ops for PS3 today on sale. Seen it for as low as $35 and I hear its fantastic. Lord Helmet 01-04-2011, 11:57 AM I second Reckless Racing. Fun top-down racer. HewenttoJared 01-05-2011, 06:24 AM I did grab Sim City, but I bought Galcon Fusion at the same time, and it's a fantastic rts. Dustin 01-12-2011, 12:18 AM Ok... Seriously addicted to Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit! Not a big fan of racing games either! Richard at Remax 01-12-2011, 03:10 PM Just started Dead Rising 2. got it for $25 on amazon, couldn't resist. Liked the first one so we'll see how this one is. Pete 01-12-2011, 10:32 PM I'm by means a gamer but finally broke down and bought an Xbox 360 w/ Kinect because I wanted Dance Central for parties. Can you guys recommend other games for the Xbox? I'm not that interested in shooter/story-based stuff, although some of the Star Wars games might be interesting. BTW, Kinect & Dance Central are both awesome. Works incredibly well in sensing body movements without any sort of controller or mat. HewenttoJared 01-13-2011, 02:54 AM Ok... Dustin 01-13-2011, 03:08 AM Bought it on your recommendation. I am impressed. Great purchase! Once you get further in the game and you start unlocking all the exotics and performance cars, it gets goooooood. If you're interested in Star Wars then pick up The Force Unleashed. The first one can be had for cheap now. Great story and fun gameplay. Matt 01-13-2011, 04:00 PM If you're interested in Star Wars then pick up The Force Unleashed. The first one can be had for cheap now. Great story and fun gameplay. I'd recommend trying the demo first. Decent game, but maybe not everyone's cup of tea. Pete, if you're online with your Xbox, you can download the demo for free and try it out for yourself. I'd say you might also try Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga for a good, fun-for-all-ages SW game. Really the only other SW game on the system outside of Lego and Force Unleashed is SW: The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes, and that's a massive turd in my opinion. And since you like Dance Central, you might want to check out Rock Band 3. It uses controllers (guitar, drums, microphone), but it's made by the same guys that made Dance Central and is also great for parties. Probably the best rhythm game released to date. Kinda tough to make other recommendations staying away from shooters and story-based stuff (not sure what that means exactly--almost every game has some kind of story to it). Again, though, a lot of games have demos you can check out for free if your system's online, and you can also try games in the Xbox Live Arcade, many of which are simple and casual and you can download free trials for all of those, too. And I'll go ahead and put in a plug for the XBLA's Pac-Man Championship Edition DX game while I'm here. Hell of a lot of fun. I probably wont because it doesn't really appeal to me. As for suggesting games, there's a wide variety of awesome games out there. I'm not sure what you're into but since I've had my xbox, going on 4 years now, I've seriously been blown away by the quality of the games and my enjoyment of the system. Some of my favorite games are: Forza 2 and Forza 3 - for a fun racing sim. Fight Night Round 4 - a fun boxing game Assassin's Creed 2 & AC Brotherhood - Awesome action adventure games Red Dead Redemption - Great sandbox game set in the wild west and the Lego games like Lego Indiana Jones 2 - just a fun game If you're in the mood for a sword n sorcery based RPG, check out Oblivion. If you want more of a spaced based RPG, it's hard to go wrong with the Mass Effect series. And if you want a post apocalyptic RPG, Fall Out 3 is the way to go. If you like first person shooters, try Modern Warfare 2, The Halo Series or even Orange Box (where you get 5 games for 1 price including Portal....which is an outstanding game if you've never played it). Seriously there are so many good games out there. Hell if you don't like a game, Game Stop will buy them from you and if you buy from them, you can return them within 7 days, I think.....you might want to check with them because I never sell games so I could be wrong. Anyways, hope that helps. Dustin 04-20-2011, 03:11 AM For all of you FPS fanatics like me!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zw8SmsovJc&feature=channel_video_title Soo.....amazing! Can't wait! Watch in HD. http://www.battlefield.com BBatesokc 04-20-2011, 07:16 AM I'm really looking forward to Battlefield three - unfortunately, so is the wife and she tends to hog the controller. I just bought Black OPS the other day on CraigsList for $30 and I really like it. I don't buy when they first come out since they are usually $59. I wait a couple months and find it for half used. Lord Helmet 04-20-2011, 09:12 AM I do the same thing. I'm far to cheap to spend $60 on a game I'll likely beat over the weekend. Richard at Remax 04-20-2011, 09:35 AM playing Portal 2 on PC. just as good or even better than the first so far ddavidson8 04-20-2011, 12:10 PM How did you like Dead Rising 2? I just finished The Force Unleased 2. It was a lot of fun, but kind of disappointing. Like they weren't really trying. It could have been a lot better. I'm on Fallout New Vegas right now. It's fun. I use gamefly. It's an okay service, but not as good as netflix is for dvds. If any of you are interested in trying it let me know and I can get you a code that will benefit us both. Kerry 04-20-2011, 01:08 PM BBates - it sounds like you might need to pick-up a second X-box so you and your wife can play against each other. We have a PS3. You can't go wrong with GT5. It has arcade and GT mode so you don't have to play a career if you don't want to. In on-line mode you can join your own racing circuit and play a whole racing season against other drivers. Plus, it doesn't get any better than racing VW vans on the Top Gear track in England. If you want to try your hand at track design you can do that and share on-line with anyone, although the track designer could be better. If you want used games try Game Stop. A month after the new release are out you can pick them up half-price. They also do trade-ins so the game only ends up costing you 25% of the original retail price. 0oFqPmCmrFo Richard at Remax 04-20-2011, 01:51 PM dead rising 2 was good. better than the original i thought. still not a fan of that you can run out of time and missions will be canceled. force unleashed 2 felt like an expansion rather than a new game. lots of button mashing. and I am now replaying fallout vegas again but chose do go the "evil" direction and see where the story goes. Homefront was a waste of time. took me about 6 hours on hardest difficulty to be single player, multiplayer was meh. Dustin 04-20-2011, 02:34 PM How did you like Dead Rising 2? I wouldn't want that in every game I play, but with DR it encouraged multiple play throughs. BBatesokc 04-21-2011, 09:15 AM Kerry - we actually have PS3. We had XBOX but got rid of it. We had two PS3's when the teenager was living at home. We'd go online and team up. I just wish you could connect two PS3's locally and with two copies of a game play a two player game without a split screen. I figured you could, but I guess not. Tried, with no luck. MadMonk 04-21-2011, 03:34 PM Homefront was a waste of time. took me about 6 hours on hardest difficulty to be single player, multiplayer was meh. I'm glad I read this. I was thinking of checking it out. Guess I'll wait to find it in the bargain bin. :tiphat: HewenttoJared 04-22-2011, 06:22 AM Portal 2 looks pretty engaging. Thinking of buying it. Lord Helmet 04-22-2011, 08:49 AM How did you like Dead Rising 2? I just finished The Force Unleased 2. It was a lot of fun, but kind of disappointing. It was fun, but the story was nowhere near as good as the first one...and it was REALLY short. Might be the shortest game I've ever played. That said, it's the best looking Star Wars game ever IMHO. Really great graphics. David 04-22-2011, 08:58 AM Portal 2 was awesome, and as well worth the purchase. venture 04-22-2011, 01:17 PM Heard Portal 2 was extremely short, the co-op pretty pointless right now, and it doesn't include the option to create content. So if you have the $50 to drop on it, go for it...otherwise wait until Christmas when it'll be $20. So if you have the $50 to drop on it, go for it...otherwise wait until Christmas when it'll be $20. Can't be much shorter than the first one! But yeah, I'll probably wait a while until the fervor dies down too. David 04-22-2011, 03:16 PM At a guess, 2 is at least twice as long as the original. Still under 10 hours of playtime though for me, YMMV depending on how long it takes to work through the puzzles. The story was wonderful. But yeah, I could see people wanting to wait for a sale. Richard at Remax 04-25-2011, 11:03 AM Im almost through 7 of the ten or so chapers of portal 2 and im just under 7 hours of play time. The first one took me 4-5 hours to beat. Def worth it so far. David 04-25-2011, 01:37 PM Played through the co-op mode with my brother over the weekend, it was maybe an additional 5-6 hours of playtime. The story was OK, though probably not as good as the single player. sacolton 04-26-2011, 07:00 AM I had a XBOX 360 for a year and couldn't tolerate the screaming kiddies on multiplayer. Sold the XBOX 360. Strictly PC platform now. Mostly LEFT 4 DEAD 1 & 2. Finished PORTAL 2. It was pretty fun, but felt short. The puzzles weren't very hard. You can tell it was dumbed down for consoles as there's very little speed time puzzles like in the first one. The British accent of Wheatley was hard to understand and I found him more annoying than anything else. Loved the retro Aperature Science levels with Caveman Johnson and the backstory. Kinda wish they made a gel-portal gun combo to make the levels harder. Richard at Remax 05-24-2011, 02:36 PM About 9 hours into LA Noire. Very interesting and different 1940s crime game. From the people who made GTA and Red Dead Redemption. Richard at Remax 06-22-2011, 10:28 AM LA Noire was really fun. However it was very slow paced compared to other Rockstar games. Def worth checking out if you like old crime dramas, especially if you like the old stories of the Black Dhalia. Picked up f.e.a.r. 3 yesterday as well. First one was amazing, second one stumbled, so hopefully they get back on the right track with this one and so far it is entertaining. OUman 06-22-2011, 10:30 PM Apart from the games on Candystand.com (yeah, I do play some of those-like the Ping Pong 3D game), I have played DiRT, now playing DiRT 2, and I have a pretty cool 100% free flight simulator called YS Flight, with hundreds of addons to choose from. All of which are also free. MDot 10-05-2011, 12:15 AM Did anyone here mention Red Dead Redemption? If not, what is wrong with you people?
