Its sort of the reason we have music, art, literature, movies, and dance. Some religious experience is a variation on the exact same thing - brainwaves and trances. People allow themselves to get into them. It sounds like another get-into-everyone's business principal just needs an excuse to take away kids' iPods and cell phones.
