View Full Version : We Need a Del Taco somewhere in the Metro
airplane777 02-18-2010, 03:46 PM I went to a Del Taco the last time I was in California. Del Taco has the best food. They skipped over Oklahoma as they migrated eastward.

metro 02-18-2010, 04:06 PM There used to be one in Stillwater and Ponca City a few years ago, guess it went out of business. Also, I was thinking there was one on E. Lincoln as well.
bluedogok 02-18-2010, 07:45 PM We had them here for a few months in Austin, I think they had some sort of business issue because they closed so quickly. They closed almost as quickly as the Village Inn's which had their franchise pulled, for good reason.
airplane777 02-19-2010, 12:54 AM Really. I wish I knew we had Del Taco in Stillwater, I would have made a special trip to visit one.

Really. I wish I had known about that, i would have made a special trip to visit one. You are talking about Del Taco right? not Taco Del Mar?
krisb 02-19-2010, 01:05 AM And how 'bout an In-N-Out Burger?
MsDarkstar 02-19-2010, 08:45 AM So what makes Del Taco so good? I'm moving mid-April to Utah, there's one in the town where we'll be living. They don't have Taco Mayo (my pick over Bell & Bueno) so I'll be looking for a new place to get my fix.

JohnDenver 02-19-2010, 11:36 AM Del Taco is just Taco Bell of South California. (Cali-Mex?)
Taco Mayo is the Taco John's of Colorado. (West-Mex)
Taco Bueno is a hybrid of them, located only in NM, TX and OK. (West/Cali/Tex-Mex)
Taco Cabana is better than any of them (for fast food). (Tex-Mex).
Of course Big Truck Taco is way better, but it isn't a chain.

Del Taco uses good ingredients, the recipes are great, they don't skimp on quantity. I love Taco Bueno and Taco Mayo. IMO Taco Bell meat tastes bad. BTW What part of Utah? I love Utah, I have all kinds of family there.

I like Taco Cabana, Bueno, and Mayo. I may want to try Taco Johns the next time I am in Colorado.
MsDarkstar 02-19-2010, 11:53 AM I agree with you on the Taco Bell meat...it just doesn't taste quite right to me. I'll definitely have to give Del Taco a try when we get moved. We're going to Hill AFB, gonna be living in Ogden.
airplane777 02-19-2010, 11:53 AM Mid-Del Taco of Del City (mom and pop) is a good place also.
LIL_WAYNE_2012_PREZIDENT 02-19-2010, 11:55 AM are we ever gonna get a in an out or white castle?
sorry for posting off topic
Wambo36 02-19-2010, 12:10 PM Mid-Del Taco of Del City (mom and pop) is a good place also.
Really good food, but the combination of a very small building and a staff of chain smokers made it impossible to go inside. Used to get my food to go and you could smell the cigarette smoke on the styrofoam cups. Haven't been there in a couple of years. Hopefully it's changed.
Midtowner 02-19-2010, 12:17 PM Lots of good places to go. 'Specially local places which generally blow their chain store competition away.
Support your local businesses.
If Del Taco moves here, boycott it.

I tried Big Truck Taco about 30 minutes ago.
I don't see what the big deal is about it.
The food was blah. The service was snotty. The prices were too high.
I'd take Taco Bell over it and I don't like Taco Bell.

It really is all about who takes your order and what you get.
The brown haired younger lady with glasses and weight, she is the most polite person. I would hire her in any restaurant. *All* the other people are just so-so to rude... depending on who it is.
The crispy cado taco and the rancher are my favorite tacos. I find most of them bland as well... Then I discovered their quesadillas and holy wow. It is great. It is the only thing I get now.
Also, the other secret is to call in your order, then use the drive-in pickup window. You can bypass the ordering people and the smell you get from going in.

Taco Johns is the bomb for man food. We used to have one in Edmond, but it was a HORRIBLE location, otherwise, they'd probably still be around.

This may be fast foor Mex information overload, but the closest Taco John's I have seen is in Hayes, Kansas. Sometimes on the way to see the family in Colorado I must stop in Hayes and choose my food death -- Long John Silvers or Taco Johns. Way too many Johns, but aptly named.
I can't get down with the tater-tots they serve, instead of chips.

No problem... I emailed the Chamber of El Reno, to see if they can work on the In-N out burger thing. I think IN-N-OUT would be perfect along Route 66.

I don't think they smoke in the building anymore. They recently installed a central A/C system also.

Where is Big Truck Taco?

There has never been a "Del Taco" in Oklahoma. There may have been a place with the same or similar name but not the place this thread is about.

Austin had Taco Del Mar not Del Taco.
SkyWestOKC 02-20-2010, 05:50 PM Sorry, but, Tacoville for the win! Portland Ave. and Newcastle Rd. -- Just north of the airport. Great tex mex. The beer cooler is bigger than the dining area.

Here is a

JayhawkTransplant 02-21-2010, 07:40 PM I love Del Taco! There are a few in St. Louis. I have not been to Big Truck Tacos, though, so I couldn't tell you which is better.

IN-N-OUT Burger Survey link:

That was a bit more comprehensive than an "IN-N-OUT" link.
I filled it out, makes me remember just how many things don't exist here. Makes me want to drive down to Dallas and spend money.
What was the survey really for?
metro 02-22-2010, 10:08 AM Seriously, why are we re-hasing the old In-And-Out burger issue. It's not an Oklahoma issue, it's they dont' want to be outside the west coast period issue. Del Taco isn't that great and wouldn't fill a niche here, and yes Vacman, we did used to have one, I'm familiar with what they are.

Yeah, no kidding. Appeared to have little if nothing to do with In-N-Out Burger.
At any rate, let's wait and see if In-N-Out expands into New Mexico or west Texas before we start bothering the people in Hell Reno about it, huh?
(Those are good burgers, Walter.)

That survey was e-mailed to me by the OKC Chamber.
