It burned down last night. What a shame , I have had some great times in that building. Went skating every Friday night. Another nostalgia place gone.

811 N Virginia. BTW. It did not quite "burn down." It was destroyed, and a couple of walls and part of the roof collapsed, but it did NOT "burn down." Buildings typically do not burn down.

How sad, I also use to go there every Friday night, back in the late 60's early 70's.

Actually, this one came close. There was one wall left. Still, it technically did not burn "down."

Probably "Burned" sideways.................Duh....It's not any good anymore.....Skating days are over on Linwood.....That used to be a fun place to go. Just like the old Agnew Skating rink.....They all wanted to fight over there though...When we (the Village Idiot and I) were younger (a lot younger) his mom got mad some older guys for some reason and she dropped us off to skate there...who do you think got the "tail end" of that program.....

At the Agnew Skating rink, was there a piano in there with someone playing it some of the time (live) or an Organ? Might have been one of my nightmares.

Except for one wall. That is not totally "burning down," or any other direction you want to use.

Drove by the Rocket yesterday around noon, there must have been 7--10 pickups with people loading bricks, metal, etc;, wonder if they had permission or just collecting scrap metal to sell.

"All skate." Let's all skate".......

"Girls only" "Girls only skate"......

"Backwards skate" "Backwards only"...

"Good night and look out for flying chairs" (This was generally the last skate of the night)

One I remember real well is the fall on your butt skate.....

Had some friends talk me into going three or four years ago and I did it well.

My mind knew what to do but my feet would not follow.....

Hug that wall......

Your thinking of a different skating rink, the Rocket has been closed for at least 15 years.

I know it was not at the Rocket!!:fighting2 (not a Grant Grad you know, or are you a Grant Grad and unable to concentrate on more than one thing at a time?)

But I am sure there were many who participated in the "fall on your butt" skate at the Rocket......

You may have went to Southwestern Skate Center which used to be Skate A Rama. They also own the old Skate Arena in Moore which is now Skate Moore.

There was a roller skating ring in the 1960's across from TAFB on S.E. 29TH between Air Depot and Sooner - anyone remember the name of it? Looked like a metal quonset hut.

And that place got real rough towards the end. Gang problems, fights, shootings. I know several parents who would not let their kids go there.:fighting4

And you forgot "shoot the duck"Thanks for that! I couldn't remember what it was called.

"Shoot The Duck" was when you skated on one skate, in a squatted down position, with one leg straight out in front of you. (Your leg was the "gun".)

Joyland Skating Rink. WAs operated by the Guffey family. After their son was killed in Vietnam in 1968, they closed up.
