distinctlyOKLAHOMA - Oklahoma Dept. of Commerce Building “Drives Creativity” (http://distinctlyoklahoma.com/content/view/502/61)
The old Maywood Baptist church has always been one of my favorite buildings in the metro, and I recently saw an article in Distinctlly Oklahoma magazine (great magazine)featuring it. The blend of the old with the new is amazing, and if you've never been inside you have to see the elevator....its awesome. I'm sure there are lots of cool buildings out there I haven't discovered yet and I thought I'd see if anyone else has a "favorite metro building"?
MikeOKC 01-29-2010, 09:07 PM I like old-style architecture. However, one of my favorites is the Physicians building at Baptist Integris that looks like a regular brick building with a glass building plopped down right on top of it at an angle. I've had so many people from out of town comment on it as we drive by. I'll try to find a picture.
edit - Found one! It's not the greatest picture. It's from Google Maps, but it will give you an idea which building I'm talking about.

MadMonk 01-29-2010, 11:41 PM I like City Place. I see it every day as I'm getting my morning coffee and think it would be great (and a little unnerving) to walk out on one of it's terraces (in nice weather of course).

westsidesooner 01-30-2010, 10:59 AM One of my doctors has his office at the Physicians Building at Baptist.....and I agree, it's a cool building.....you get a great view of it (actually a great view of the entire Integris campus) from across Hefrner Parkway on 56th.....I'll try to tak a pic next time I'm up there from that angle.
I've never been inside city place, but would love to. What kind of offices does it have and is it accesible to the public? And is there access to those terraces? As far as the capitol, when I was working for an electrical contractror I got some pretty cool access to the interior of it. There are a maze of hidden catwalks and passages around the dome. I haven't been there in a couple of years and have some family who have never been there....it might be a good field trip while the weather is bad to pass time til spring. Lots of great artwork inside too.
I've always loved the building just west of the Devon site too...with the atrium on top. And while not really a building there's a huge home one block east of Wilshire and Penn...kinda gothis/castle arch. ..been there foever and years ago they sold off much of thier property to build other homes (bad idea).

USG '60 01-30-2010, 04:14 PM Taft Middle School and the tower at OCU for Art Deco.

That IS a great building. Have you seen this? (http://www.abandonedok.com/the-walcourt/)
skyrick 01-30-2010, 08:02 PM I love Art Deco.
I vote for the Colcord Hotel. Great art deco lobby and details on the main entrance on Robinson. We've stayed there the last two times we've come back to visit family.

ddavidson8 01-30-2010, 08:28 PM Great thread idea. I loved the old Continental Theater. Too bad they had to tear it down.
jstanthrnme 01-30-2010, 09:25 PM I like City Place too, but that would be #3 behind the Crystal Bridge, and the Farmers Market.

Founders Tower
nik4411 01-30-2010, 09:48 PM cool thread
that founders tower picture is awesome
gmwise 01-31-2010, 12:21 AM I used to work at the Founders Tower (The Tower of Babel) is what we called it.
So I guess I'm over the architectural merits.
nik4411 01-31-2010, 02:59 PM what all was actually located in the tower? i had never been inside it.
Bunty 01-31-2010, 03:14 PM It's an upscale apartment tower.
gmwise 01-31-2010, 04:10 PM It's an upscale apartment tower.
Now that is true.
Then, various businesses, including an investment concern, real estate agency, A "faith based" long distance company. ie Amerivision Telecom.
An electrical parts wholesaler, a cabling/communications co.,so forth...
mmonroe 01-31-2010, 05:12 PM My friend lives at Lakeview Towers, it has a great view of Founders Tower.
Also, the Walcourt, I read about the children murders and blah blah, but nothing really to believe than something that seems to have been made up. No solid facts about it though. I've gotten as a close as the fence to the building, but that is it.
rondvu 01-31-2010, 09:44 PM I think the physicians building at Intregis Southwest is a beautiful building. The blue glass is an eye catcher.

Founders Tower
Thats a great pic of founders.
Taft Middle School and the tower at OCU for Art Deco.
Northwest Classen High School for Mid-Century Modern.
I've always liked that building too...I don't know why, I hope it's as interesting architecturally on the inside as it is on the outside.
Heres a couple more I really like.....

Surprised noone has mentioned this one yet.
Bunty 01-31-2010, 11:18 PM Oh, boy, that's where the Prohibition Room is.
bombermwc 02-01-2010, 08:30 AM I've never seen Walcourt before. Man, that's a jem! I had visions of renovating the place and making an amazing house out of the sucker. That an amazing building. 5000 sqft would make a really large home for anyone...that's definitely Galardia size. Those masonry details are beautiful. Man, that would be amazing if it would be brought back to life.
mmonroe 02-01-2010, 08:08 PM Walcourt: Apparently some old lady owns it and doesn't want to give up the claim to it... it's got some crazy made up stories about it though... i'm not sure they're true because I can't find a basis on them after searching on the internet.
