Well, I just knew the daughter of one of the owners and her last name
was Sanchez.
Was she gorgeous? What am I saying? I know she was. You can't be a
southsider and have a last name like Sanchez and not be gorgeous. It's a
law. I'll bet she was gorgeous.

Well, her family was on the northside by then, they lived close to NW 16th & Council...I thought she was.

Why do I remember that with some notoriety? Where was that? Somewhere around OCU, right?

The Black Brick was on N. McKinley near N.W. 25th and on the west side of
the street. I would almost always order the Hot Apple Cider with a Cimmanon
stick (one of the big square ones).

The sound system was an 8-Track player that was inevitably playing Iron
Butterfly.

It was a place that I could stay and never worry about "what was really
happening". The owners were a couple who you would never imagine. Very
straight looking. From what I remember, they didn't appreciate anyone who
was overly intoxicated.

E: Earl Sheib paint and body!
Earl Sheib did a famous $59.95 paint job on my 1959 Peugeot. It cost me
$69.95 and the color wasn't even close to what I picked. Hey, I wanted
the 1969 Ford Mustang blue. Instead, it looked like a pregnant roller
skate. Duck MacDonald so named the color!

My 1959 with "4 on the Tree" was legendary in southside motordom. Hey, it
had reclining seats! True, the seats took about 2 hours to get into position
and the "mood" was totally lost, but everyone talked about them.

Eventually, my dates made me sign a contract stating that I wouldn't use
the reclining seats. Okay, the contract is a bit overkill, but my dates would
tell me NOT to use the reclining seats. There were these little knobs you
could barely hold on to...

Lastly, I kept a multitude of "Flair Felt Tips" in the glove box and we'd all
spend our lunch breaks, and dates, drawing pictures on the dashboard, side
panels or any place that could be drawn on. It was a very popular Hippie
ride. Yes, the seats were drawn upon, on occasion. I had this one date
that drew a... never mind...

What a ride!

The "Square Ring" used to meet there toward the end. It was a group of

a very important person in preserving the boxing history of Oklahoma and
produced a book that I have in my library. She introduced me to several old,
old time boxers.
