Griders
Okay, I'm going to challenge this one. I remember Smith-Griders but I don't
remember Grider's.

Get to it southsiders, especially the really, really, really, really really, really
old southsiders like Gen64 and Carltonskeeper. I'd say Tall Girl but I don't
want to get whacked up the side of my head.

At any rate, is Grider's legit?

It was a cheap grocery store. Husband thinks it was on South Portland but I wouldn't swear to that.

Bought a cello there for $100 around 1977. It had hung on the wall for
years as a decoration. As a matter of fact, it started my love for orchestral
music. Yeah, a rock music store! I'd been a touring rock musician at the
time and can't tell you how long I drooled over that instrument. It's a 1934
Kay, the serial number is still inside it, and it's worth considerably more than
what I paid for it. It's helped one of my nephews get a scholarship. That's
a good investment!

Do you remember when it moved to N.W. 23rd and N. Council Road? The
sign for the shopping center had Rock World on it until about 5 years ago!
It'd been closed for at least 20 years.

Too funny! I still owe a lot to Rock World! Do you remember any of the
employees? I don't but would love to. After all, I drove them nutz!

Hey PQ! What's the idea of stopping at S? You were on a roll dear heart!

Off Topic. I meant to give you a brick from Ho Ho's house for your precious
husband. :-( I'll bet the dogs will love the stinks from it. Dogs love stinks.

I'll clean it up and give it to you the next time we meet. Nah, I ain't gonna
clean it. After all, there's dirt that Ho Ho walked on the dirt that's on it.

Husbandman will appreciate it.

Where was Grider's, not Smith-Grider's! Griders was there on Penn. by the liquor store and that club. Twilight? The owner (Grider) lived almost behind the store. Don't know if that shopping center had a name? I even think the store on 29th & May was Griders before Smith-Griders.

Husband says they used to go to Griders when it was time to get things when it was time to winter in. He says he recalls one year they got three carts worth of stuff and it came to EIGHTY DOLLARS!! His dad nearly had a stroke. It was a long time ago.

Grider's tried to start a small chain of stores and they put the name of GFF (Grider's Fine Foods)....Didn't work but, one of the stores (GFF) is still an active and viable business in this time of "Wally World" and such. That store is located in Moore on 12th and Santa Fe...
