Driving to and back from Norman today I heard two commercials from two different company's that offer "products" of the same nature.

One has a line of products for the bath and shower that will stimulate and then gratify your partner.

The other has several items to get your partner in the "mood." They claim to have one of the largest selection of leather in the state.

Think I might stick with sports talk and NPR from now on....

A little off this topic but I went into a United Food Store in Purcell....They STILL give out Stamps. Once the page is full you can get a discount on milk or eggs or something.

What kind of stamps? I remember TV a.k.a Top Value from Humpty Dumpty, Gunn Brothers from Safeway, and S&H from nearly everywhere else.

It's just a cheapo stamp like those you mentioned. But, once you get a page full (you get so much per dollar spent) the page is then worth a discount or whatever the Special of the Week is. It's a good gimmick ....people think they're getting something for nothing but I thought the stamp deal went out many years ago......If I remember right, there was a gold bond stamp program somewhere?????

Actually, it was 301 S. Western, not 300 S. Western. And that was not the original store. They started by selling junk furniture on Reno somewhere around Walker. The founders were Bud and Don. Along with them were Jude, Jody, and Buck Owens... Yes. THE Buck Owens.

you're right about the Reno Store...they used to have a store that took Most of the trade-ins the Duke Evans would get from his Big Red Furniture Store that later on moved to about 7th and S. Western. Now, you're right about Bud and Don being the founders....But Not right about Jude n Jody or Buck Owens....Jude and Jody worked for Bud and Don on the Saturday night show they had on Reno and then when they moved to 301 S. Western they worked from the full-time.....There was a falling out and Jude and Jody bought the old Safeway building on S.W. 29th and Walker until it burned and they rebuilt there and are there to this day. Buck Owens would do the Televised Show for The Mathis Brothers and they would be recorded at WKY (was there a couple of times). Conway Twitty was said to have worked for Jude and Jody...NOT...Duke Evans was the main money guy during this time period.....Don't you remember Big Red's Five by Five, Five bucks down and a weekly five.....$300.00 for a whole houseful of furniture.....Don was the Freight Train guy....now here Jude saying" Now remember we Love Folks" so ya'll come on down to Mathis brothers Furniture.....

Jude and Jody were employed by Mathis, as was Buck. I rememeber my mom telling me about that not long ago, plus I remember most of it. In fact, had it not been for Bud and Don, there is a strong chance Buck would not have been as big as he was. I don't remember a "falling out (as you put it)" between Bud and Don and Jude and Jody.

One thing to keep in mind is the fact my family has been friends with the Mathis' for decades. (the elders. We have not met the boys) In fact, the last time I saw Bud was at my Dad's funeral. Plus, I knew Buck since 1962. One of Jude's relatives was also my next door neighbor. So, I have long ties with the family and their history.

re: iron lung, probably Camel. They had a mail order catalog and the purchases were made with empty wrappers. Had an uncle who smoked Camels and he and my aunt used to order all kinds of stuff. One of the worst whuppings I ever got was for messing with his coo coo clock that he'd ordered from that catalog.

Please, there's no comparison! We have Braums & Sonic down here in TX, but they are MILES away from the awesomeness that is the Steak Sandwich Supreme (tm). When the one in Allen TX was open, everyone I took there became an instant convert/fanatic over these sandwiches.

OK has some good stuff, but Texas does rule the BBQ world. Especially down in Hill Country! You won't find BBQ sauce in many of them, because they don't need it. You'll see people putting ketchup on Filet Mignon before you see BBQ sauce even available in some places. And no plates either. It's served on the brown butcher paper it's wrapped in.
