OkieBerto 07-28-2022, 10:45 AM Tasting Table ranked Neon's donut-bun BLT as one of the 20 best breakfast sandwiches in America: https://www.tastingtable.com/940402/where-to-find-the-20-best-breakfast-sandwiches-in-america/
I had no doubt those sandwiches would make a major impact on people who know good food! Thanks for sharing!
LocoAko 07-30-2022, 12:06 PM I was wondering the same thing. The concrete wasn't in bad shape where they tore it up, so I'm wondering if this is a major renovation of some type?
Late reply since I've been mobile, but here is the city's assessment report for the project that got accepted. It describes the nature and need for the streetscape, namely ADA improvements: https://okc.primegov.com/portal/viewer?id=158473&type=2

These are the plans for the old church property pictured above.
The first rendering and floorplans are for the church; the 2nd is for a 3-level building to be constructed to the north.

The copied houses at the top left corner look kinda boring, very weak attempt and creativity trying to make one look different from the others.

Not much of a NYE guy, but that sounds like a great vibe.
Bits_Of_Real_Panther 01-06-2023, 10:11 AM Is anything announced for the Neon location?
I liked it as the pizza by the slice shop.
It could be a mini Pump style watering hole, maybe

warreng88 04-02-2023, 04:16 PM The Hamilton building on NW 16th near the up down arcade bar is being marketed for sale for $2,025,000. Two 1,136 sf retail spots on the ground floor and four 1,041 sf apartments on the second and third floors. And I thought that house down the street selling for over a million was high.

king183 04-04-2023, 11:30 AM That's not The Hamilton. That's The District, according to the developer's website. The Hamilton is a bungalow project in Metro Park.

Lot of $ for a building that doesn't look to have adequate bracing or a Federally required accessible unit on the ground floor. Any buyer is likely to end up in a pretty hairy lawsuit.

The broker called it the Hamilton, then changed it to 6th Hamilton. If you click on the NRP Website link and then download the flyer, that's what they call it. Not sure what the disconnect is there on why the developer calls it one thing and the broker calls it something else.

Interesting. Perhaps the developer renamed it the Hamilton and has decided not to pursue what is called the Hamilton on their website and didn't update the site. I know they've scaled back their plans in other areas and have abandoned, so that would make sense. The Hamilton is a better name for that building anyway, in my opinion.

Maybe another zero interest rate phenomenon ?
Bits_Of_Real_Panther 04-20-2023, 02:02 PM Was there a thread about the place just west of Mexican Radio? I remember photos of the back patio area?
I can't remember what it was, a bar ?

Ginkasa 05-17-2023, 03:52 PM Neon's been closed for a little while now.
caaokc 05-17-2023, 04:28 PM Their closing was really under the radar. Not too surprising though, their coffee wasn’t that great

The one time I went there it was dearly expensive and not that great.

Yes their coffee was very bad, especially at their price point. But the thing I really miss were their donuts. Absurd how good those were. They should have leaned into the donut thing more. In any case I hope their pastry chef lands on their feet somewhere else.
Timshel 05-18-2023, 01:39 PM I've always just kinda assumed Cope and team had a remaining lease on the space once the new Empire location opened/the slice shop closed and so was a low-cost way to try a new concept. And once the lease was up decided to close it down.

Cope had put out a statement when she closed it down. She had mentioned it was something they did in order to help retain employees during the pandemic. Gun and the chicken sandwich joint struggled after some unfortunate events. That group actually did an amazing job during the pandemic.

if by "great" you mean not opening when they could and hurting their employees then sure ..

This seems a little petty. Can you elaborate on what you think a busy local business is to do when a pandemic happens and people are getting sick and then your head chef at one of your restaurants dies suddenly?

The Sandoitchi pop up was early January in the old Neon space.
Not sure anything else has happened there since.

I haven't gotten any emails from sandoitchi recently, so I'm guessing it's not them doing anything to the space (not sure if they're planning on expanding anywhere or not).
Urbanized 05-18-2023, 10:51 PM Sandoitchi is Texas-based. That was a temporary pop-up only. No long-term plans in that space or anywhere else in OKC.

open when everyone else opens??

Thanks for that elaborating, question? It is clear you have problems with this group. There is no need for me to continue this query with you. Enjoy all the other places you go that aren't an 84 Hospitality location.

i have no issue with this group and go to several of their restaurants regularly
but the idea that they handled covid well is simply not true ..
When I was at the Gazette, I interviewed 3 prominent restaurant groups and their very distinct approaches to the pandemic.
The first was Provision Concepts (Broadway 10, Sidecar, Hatch) and they were incredibly aggressive, even opening new places. That has propelled them to by far the most aggressive restaurant group in the OKC area.
Next was Humankind (Picasso, Frida, OSO) and they were in the middle ground, with reduced hours and tons of sterilization.
And then there was 84 Hospitality (Empire, Revolucion, Goro) where they just closed completely and stay closed much longer than almost every other restaurant in town.
Interestingly, all 3 groups are now thriving -- they just took different approaches to get there.

Too bad you are no longer there, would have loved to read a retrospective interview with all three groups a few years after the fact.

Yes, it's the same group that runs Sideline (old Kong's space) on Campus Corner.
It's a sports bar.
BridgeBurner 05-30-2023, 03:34 PM Very interesting, I wonder how "campus corner college bar" will translate to the plaza.
Anyone visited the original location? I haven't been back to campus corner in many years.

Haha yeah I live in the area and am familiar with Scorecards- this place looks a bit different from social media, like an underage drinking hangout ($2 shot specials, fishbowl style to-share drinks, etc).
Obviously location is a massive factor and the fuzzy's on campus corner looks a lot different than a fuzzy's in Edmond so was just interested if anyone had been there firsthand or knew if they actually had good food.

I can safely say this just might be the ugliest new build I have seen!
warreng88 12-12-2023, 03:54 PM It's so weird, because you can get a 1,487 sf 2bd/2ba duplex for rent for $1,395 that was built in 2008 on 16th. Why would someone pay $150 more per month to be on 17th?
Or, you can rent a 1,800 sf house across the street from this thing that is 4/2 for $1,800 per month.

They also recently announced that two homes on NW 15th and Indiana will be converted to businesses.
Coming soon to our vibrant district is a thoughtful micro development with reuse of 2 existing bungalow homes for local businesses. This space offers a prime location and ample parking in the back, perfect for coffee shop and retail space concepts.
