I believe she is actually part of the nostalgia threads memory bank.......also, pennyquilts and doug laudenback and of course "steve" are all northsiders and we want them to come...it raises our groups financial status.....see ya there....

Generals64 04-12-2010, 09:05 AM OIL up the old quilting machine... Good lord, man.
================================================== =========
Well, I've been on the tractor for the past three days and Grease sounded better....
FRISKY 04-12-2010, 11:13 AM That sounds like my dream job...I'm going to guess you are being facetious, so let's look at what you have posted previously on this board to see where your interests run. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out the type of job you would do well.
You excel in several areas:
You know the whereabouts of public "make-out" spots.
You know about bed covers.
You make videos of wild animal action.
You have superior knowledge of what is legal...or not.
Hmm, on second thought, as diverse as those attributes are, maybe the crowd around here wouldn't be the best source of work positions for you.
:LolLolLol
Prunepicker 04-12-2010, 11:21 AM That sounds like my dream job...
But you have do drive it in straight lines and not wreck stuff.

Southside Girl (1973, CHHS) will be at the April gathering.....:tiphat:
bowtieguy 04-13-2010, 12:12 PM Hammondjam and nik4411........ yes, come and join us on the 24th! I'll try to make sure that everyone is on their best behavior, which is VERY HARD to do!! Seriously.... it is a good group of people that like to get together once a month to talk about growing up on the southside. Some people bring old yearbooks, newspaper articles, etc. to look at. It's just a real interesting time together... very casual. If you haven't already done so take a look at the main thread for this group.... lots of stuff there.

Hope to see you both on the 24th!!

I can't make it on the 24th, Reunion committee meeting. Ya'll have a big time!
Prunepicker 04-14-2010, 01:43 PM When's the next meeting? Is it this weekend or next?
Gen64 said he'd see me Saturday.
papaOU 04-14-2010, 01:52 PM Next Saturday the 24th.
This Saturday is the Red-White game at OU and someone posted that the TG&Y annual gathering/reunion as well.
papaOU 04-14-2010, 02:05 PM Posted by RealJimbo on the TG&Y thread, 4/3/2010:
TG&Y Reunion April 17. Check the FaceBook page for more info.
SoonerGirl26 04-15-2010, 09:58 PM I can't make it on the 24th, Reunion committee meeting. Ya'll have a big time!
Hey.....I'm going to the reunion meeting too and then leaving and going to the Coit's shindig a little bit late.
~~~
SoonerGirl26 04-15-2010, 10:41 PM Doug and Steve:
Are you going to be at Coit's on the 24th? I have something for you. I have a 30-page typed document that an OKC Southwestern Bell telephone operator wrote in 1933 about her 30-year career....starting when she was 15 years old in 1903. She worked 9 hours a day and only got every third Sunday off. Her paycheck was $9 for 2-weeks pay. She also talks about how things were in OKC back then, she talks about walking 2 miles to work on 10th street (a dirt road), running into Tom Mix out riding his horse, the state seal being moved from Guthrie to OKC, a trip from Wichita to OKC takes 12 hours, going to Delmar Gardens... lots of interesting insight into her life back then.
I forgot that I had this, but ran across it the other day and thought you guys might want a copy of it. It's a classic.... typed on an old typewriter.
Doug Loudenback 04-17-2010, 10:50 AM Thanks, SG26, yes I'm planning on being there. That is GREAT! Could I borrow it and scan it or is it too fragile?
SoonerGirl26 04-17-2010, 11:05 AM Thanks, SG26, yes I'm planning on being there. That is GREAT! Could I borrow it and scan it or is it too fragile?
My copy is a copy of the original, so it is in good shape except the typed words are sometimes faint. I'm making you your very own copy!!
I have another meeting to go to at 1:00, but I'm going to escape from it a little early and try to be at Coit's by 1:45 or 2:00.
~~~
Tall Girl 04-17-2010, 08:47 PM I've called that number several times. No answer. And that was before PQ.
I'm not about to call it now!
Where's Soonergirl and Tall Girl? Are they hiding?
No not hiding, just busy. We'll be there. Even if I can't stay, I'll be by there, with something for Soonergirl and Gen64. I hope Steve is there. I want his autograph!
Hammondjam 04-24-2010, 10:44 AM I'll have to miss this one because of an inescapable family committment but I'm gonna eventually meet you all. I was SURE hoping to be sipping on a rootbeer float by 2 pm.
Prunepicker 04-24-2010, 08:23 PM Doug,
There was a John A. Brown in Shepherd Mall. N.W. 23rd! It's where Dillard's
was. So says Prunette.

Steve, if you are reading this, she gave me a copy for you ... which I may or may not let you have! :ohno:
Just kidding about the last part.

Well, the person (I still don't recall who at one of the meetings) indicated one more in the vicinity of the Tower theater, plus or minus a few blocks of that location. I remain skeptical about that, but he (it was a guy) was pretty sure.
papaOU 04-25-2010, 09:54 AM Steve, if you are reading this, she gave me a copy for you ... which I may or may not let you have! :ohno:

Does that mean you are not going to give Steve a copy?
Doug Loudenback 04-25-2010, 09:58 AM Depends on what he is willing to give me for it.

Doug Loudenback 04-25-2010, 01:31 PM ... I've moved and I'm goin' to the mattresses ... :sofa: ...
papaOU 04-25-2010, 09:14 PM The "Rockin' Reunion" is May 15 & 16. Should we meet at Coit's on the 22nd of May?
SoonerGirl26 04-25-2010, 09:19 PM The "Rockin' Reunion" is May 15 & 16. Should we meet at Coit's on the 22nd of May?
May 22nd would work GREAT for me..... I wouldn't be able to make it if we kept it on the 15th.
~~~
Prunepicker 04-25-2010, 10:13 PM The Coit's Meeting was great! Soonergirl26, Frisky and I stayed almost to
6pm reading a reverse phone book.
I also learned how to search the Oklahoman archives.
Same here. I've got a lot happening on the weekend of the 15th. Fly Fishing
North Carolina! Prunette has a social thing for me, too. There might be
people there.
Yeah, we were taking a "mental drive" down S. Penn, S. May and SW 59th. What fun!!!
Prune...have you been in the archives all day today????????????
Prunepicker 04-25-2010, 10:58 PM Yeah, we were taking a "mental drive" down S. Penn, S. May and SW 59th.
What fun!!!
Prune... have you been in the archives all day today?
That mental drive dislodged a bunch of information that's been sitting
stagnate for years!
Almost! I'm having a blast looking through the archives. Thanks for the help.
FRISKY 04-26-2010, 06:29 AM The Coit's Meeting was great! Soonergirl26, Frisky and I stayed almost to 6pm reading a reverse phone book.
Yep, it was a good get-together and it was good to meet the new folks that showed up!
We really enjoyed the old car pictures and school information.
I hope I can find some older Criss-Cross books for the next meeting.
Prunepicker 04-29-2010, 10:12 PM Hey all, I'm gigging at Mickey Mantle's tomorrow night -Friday-
from 7pm -11pm. It's a great R&B band. Lot's of oldies.
Maybe next time..................
I found a freebee! Of course I burned $30 in gas looking for it. LOL!
There are usually some east of the Brick (ball park). People don't like to
drive. The Harkin and Bass Pro are good bets, too.
papaOU 05-09-2010, 07:52 PM next coit's meeting is may 22, 1:30 pm
Double Edge 05-11-2010, 08:47 PM Well, the person (I still don't recall who at one of the meetings) indicated one more in the vicinity of the Tower theater, plus or minus a few blocks of that location. I remain skeptical about that, but he (it was a guy) was pretty sure.
My granny from that neighborhood took me there and bought me clothes when I was a kid. I think the store was a John A. Brown. Wife said the same when I asked her if she remembered the name of that store.
Concerning the area around the Tower Theater.
ACK! What are you doing on this thread? NO! NO! NO! This is a thread for
(almost) sane people!
At any rate, welcome LOL! Really (almost) welcome!
There was a Brown's on N.W 23rd but it wasn't a John A. Brown, except
the one at Shepherd Mall. I definitely saw a photo of a store that was
named Brown's in an Oklahoma City book that had photos from 1930 to the
present. Doug Loudenback and I talked about it at the last meeting. We
didn't come up with anything, but we discussed it and left with headaches.
I like your Salvador Dali avatar.
Double Edge 05-11-2010, 09:36 PM eh. I'll check in with my older siblings to see what they remember about it. I'm remembering shopping there about '63 ish. Wife didn't see that part of town until mid '70s.
There were many shops in that area during that period. Wife got her wedding
gown at Kathryn Lipes.
Double Edge 05-11-2010, 09:58 PM That was a favorite place for my granny to shop. More upscale than we were used to.
papaOU 05-18-2010, 11:40 PM Meeting is this Saturday, 1:30
Prunepicker 05-19-2010, 01:09 AM Will Tall Girl and Soonergirl26 be there?
Rumor has it that Soonergirl26 and Prunepicker are out of town this week.
Well, I must admit it. We are both out of town this week. However,
Soonergirl went WAY west and Prunepicker went WAY east. Believe her, er
me, it's the only way to go! In fact it's been very enjoyable.
I have no idea what Tall Girl is doing, other than baseball. Hey! She's
been out of town, too! Does anyone know where Southside Girl is? It's
startin' to git out of control. Hopefully she stayed near by. OKC!
Hey Frisky, why aren't you in this much trouble. I know Gen64 is, and it's
deep, but that's the norm.
I think I need a lawyer.
But not her!
Maybe you are thinking of Rothchild's?
Double Edge 05-20-2010, 10:15 PM Could have been. My memory fails me.
Tall Girl 05-20-2010, 10:48 PM Maybe you are thinking of Rothchild's?
I think Rothschilds was only Downtown, Uptown and Penn Square. Not 100% sure though.
