Yes, its definitely a safety issue, and being that the project isnt complete they will not have a certificate of occupancy. Also, the last thing you want on a construction project is curious onlookers who will wander out onto the jobsite

Oh wow I love the time-lapse videos, Madmonk!

You know, it reminds me of a bunch of worker ants working on building their ant hill. Can't wait for the tower to start rising from the ground!

As I enjoyed them, the thought struck me, the way I keep coming back to this thread for the videos is a lot like having a grownup Bob the Builder series.

That's funny! I never thought of that before, but from now on I won't be able to view them the same way.

It's really cool to see them putting it all together like a giant erector set. It's hard to get that a of it in real time, but when it's sped up like in these videos, it really shows how much gets done in the course of a day (and night).

As far as I know, Devon employees will phase into this parking garage, which will free up parking in other parts of downtown including the Sante Fe, Cox, Main Street(1st Nat'l) parking gargages. The first phase is scheduled to finish in February, 2nd phase in April and the garage is expected to be finished by the beginning of July and all Devon employees will move to the new garages. These are obvious planned and speculative dates, but it does seem like it is going up pretty quick!

the progress of the garage go me to thinking, so I'll ask the question.

with the completion of the garage, does Devon plan to have their employees start parking in it and walking to their current locations?

Besides the obvious advantage of freeing up other downtown parking locations, I think having Devon employees park in their own garage (despite the tower being ready to move in/built) is it will allow Devon employees to interface with the construction of their new tower; they would get daily hands-on accounts of their new baby!

Anyone have any insight or information?

Actually, Devon is moving all of their employees to the new garage upon completion. Some will move in sometime in February, more in April, and everyone else in July. The garage will be 100% completed by July, so why would Devon keep paying for their employees to park elsewhere downtown and leave their garage (that their employees can park at for free) empty? The answer, they will not! This has been stated very clearly and publicly by Devon several times.

I went to the Thunder game last night and drove in front of the parking garage on the way home. One thing you can't see from the current camera angle is the concrete facade on the side of the first five floors from the current angle is also all the way up on the south side of the parking garage. I would not be suprised to see all the floors put in by the end of the year.

^^^I wouldn't either. I'm amazed at the speed at which they are moving on the garage. I think someone mentioned that they actually work well into the nite? And what's great is that they're also working on the secant wall/foundation/whatever it's called for the tower simultaneously. I wouldn't expect otherwise, but it's nice to know they're moving along nicely.

I believe the plan is to have the garage largely finished not long after the first of the year, and then the tower structure will start rising from the ground about the same time.

Considering the progress they've made in just a month and a half, I can certainly foresee that happening.

We've been told that all employees will be moved into the garage by July. It will start in February though and as they finish different area's more will be moved out of existing parking at the Santa Fe and Cox.

I haven't been in downtown OKC in about 20 yrs.. Is that the Black Hotel on the right side of cam. image?

Yes it is. There will be some changes coming to that block. We just don't what what nor when - but they are coming.

Thanks for the time laps stuff Monk - What I think would be cool to see with the garage would be a lapse of only a couple of shots per day and have the entire project up to now.

That's great.

Should mean many that were displaced from the garage under construction will soon be able to park at Cox Center.

Unfortunately the majority of the current action is about to be off cam - some of it already is. A lot more movement on the garage then on the building site.

What is the hold-up? Take I-40 westbound for 983 miles. Exit when you see the tall building under construction.

Just fyi, yes NewsOk is working w/ Devon on a webcam. It's been a frustratingly slow process and I'm embarassed that's it's not up yet (it's amazing what happens to timelines when lawyers get involved). Hat's off to OKCTalk to showing how to get it done quickly.

Pete probably dinna talk to any of the OKCtalk lawyer members.

Here's a thought, i don't think the weather will get real heavy, but if it does, will the van stay visible? maybe I shoulda tagged it after all, might seen like a public service now, hehehehe

I'd say the weather is pretty heavy ... the web cam seems not to have added an image since 12/24 @ 1:09 (it is now 2:46), but here's a screen capture all wrapped up in a frame for Christmas! Is that lonely van the vehicle you guys have been talking about?

Yes, that's the van, and yes, I blew the call on the weather. Blame it on wishful thinking and hoping on my part. Wanted us and a swath from SE OK to W Texas to remain reasonably clear for the sake of a nephew seeing his little girl shortly after Christmas. Probably not happening this year after this.

Stay safe and warm all. I think I'm logging out and doing some kiddo gabbing the rest of the eve (unless they gets a wee tired of the old guy)

Lil' Em is not quite big enough to wanna see Santa trappings at first light, so it's still just peaceful and quiet here. the cam shot at 9:48 this morning is just fab!, especially compared to the storm shot Doug used yesterday. What a contrast and what a difference a day makes in Oklahoma. 5' drifts around the house. The tank is the only vehicle that can make it out the drive thanks to the multiple passes of the grader, but by golly, it's a white Christmas and my kiddos and grandbaby and baby to be will wake and stir soon and while life ain't perfect, today is a feel blessed day.

Peace and blessing to you and yours.

OKC@heart
01-12-2010, 05:42 PM
The camera is unstuck and the Jobsite trailers are in place and it looks like a new stair case is being built on the East exterior of the garage. Additionally, they are laying something in sheets on the top level deck and for the life of me I do not know what that is. I have seen a lot of parking garages go up in my time and I can't think of what that sheet material could be unless the top deck is not a parking surface, but surely it would be. Any thoughts anyone?:please:

Because this is such a big project and they are going to through this up in 3 years they will have safety people watching everybody. Holder/Flint Co both will have people over seeing the workers.
