metro 10-27-2009, 02:57 PM Thunder, no that is not the entire spot, also the parking garage to the right hand side of the dirt patch. That entire area is by no means a small area. It's almost an entire City block long and 1/2 of one deep. It's almost 1/2 a city block. Remember, this tower is going to be massive, almost 1.5 times taller than anything else in our skyline.
Dustin 10-27-2009, 03:38 PM Has anyone heard of this really awesome technology called "Smart Glass?". It goes from clear to frosted white with the flick of a switch and it's supposed to save energy by trapping in heat during the winter and blocking heat during summer. It would be awesome to see the Devon Tower go from clear to white when the sun goes down!
metro 10-27-2009, 03:49 PM Yeah, I've heard of it/seen it. It would be ridiculously expensive for a building that size.
Born-n-Raised 10-27-2009, 05:03 PM This is the coolest thing OKC has done in a while. I'm on the web cam at Galveston dot com to watch the ships come in. We also got the hotel information and restaurants and everything about the city was on the web site. I hope OKC has enough foresight to do the same.:congrats:http://www.okctalk.com/images/smilies/congrats.gif

Well of course... Im just sayin it would be cool.
hipsterdoofus 10-28-2009, 08:08 AM Camera looks like it got bumped - got some glare goin on too
MadMonk 10-28-2009, 08:57 AM Okay, now we need a ConstructionCam cam to find out who keeps bumping it.
:kicking:

Looks like they are really getting busy destroying the west parking deck. It bet it's completely gone in a few days and that will make me happy.
I've always hated seeing that huge expanse of surface parking right in the middle of downtown, as a reminder of our lack of density and failed urban renewal.
I know it will just be dirt for quite a while, but seeing it gone will make me feel much, much better.
metro 10-28-2009, 10:46 AM Pete, not to be picky, I'm WAYYYYY appreciative of your generosity of getting and hosting a construction cam, since Devon didn't man up and do it, but do you have any idea as to why the cam has a pink hue to it?
I think it's due to the southern light coming through the tinted windows in the building.
metro 10-28-2009, 10:52 AM That was what I was wondering, window tint.
MadMonk 10-28-2009, 10:55 AM Combination of window tint, glare and 640x480 resolution.
And remember, since the camera is facing due south, it gets a lot of direct light. That's never a good thing for any lens.

How is this going to affect our "time lapse" video in a couple years?
This parking deck demolition is fun to watch... Sections are falling by the minute!
okcmomentum 10-28-2009, 11:06 AM i know what i'm doing at lunch today...sounds like fun to watch!
hipsterdoofus 10-28-2009, 11:21 AM How is this going to affect our "time lapse" video in a couple years?
Unfortunately I would imagine this is only going to get worse as we go into winter and the sun heads south :-(
MadMonk 10-28-2009, 12:00 PM i know what i'm doing at lunch today...sounds like fun to watch!
Except the construction guys are at lunch too so it might be a little boring for you. :LolLolLol
okcmomentum 10-28-2009, 12:03 PM Lots of cool stuff to watch today. They are tearing up the west garage and look like they are getting ready to do some deep boring. The big boring machine hidden by the east garage in the camera feed has a tube as tall as the garage hooked up to it. Pretty awesome for sure. There is a letter posted in the Devon (west) garage stating it will be closed on November 1st to tear down the north crossover bridge between the two garages.
MadMonk 10-28-2009, 01:22 PM The sun's gone away and the camera seems to be doing much better.

It was hard for me to tear away from the window today and work. Unfortunately I forgot my camera today - it was awesome to watch the west deck fall. Big sheets of water were spraying but the dust was blowing anyway.
I'm off work until Monday, but I'll take camera then. Hopefully I can get some shots of the boring tube in action.
MadMonk 10-28-2009, 09:00 PM Today was an interesting day staring out our little window on the world.

jstanthrnme 10-28-2009, 10:30 PM That is really cool!
metro 10-29-2009, 08:31 AM Great work MadMonk!
OKCisOK4me 10-29-2009, 01:05 PM Damn! They are kicking that garage's arse!!
okcmomentum 10-29-2009, 05:50 PM Very nice MadMonk! Love the time lapse video. It will be so cool to see one as they get started with the tower.
OKCMallen 10-29-2009, 06:15 PM Madmonk that was awesome! :)
MadMonk 10-29-2009, 06:54 PM Glad you guys enjoyed it. I can't wait for some really interesting clips once the building begins to go up.
okcmomentum 10-31-2009, 12:15 PM Wow...looks like they're working on Saturday.
Thunder 11-02-2009, 04:54 AM Don't forget the men that put in hard work building those things out there that is being torn apart. I wonder how they feel if they are seeing their work being ripped apart.

By someone who paid a fraction of what it cost to build it, only a couple years later (oh wait, maybe we should think of the taxpayers too!)
P.S. - Cam appears to be stuck.
hipsterdoofus 11-02-2009, 08:21 AM apparently the camera doesn't know that the time changed :-P
hipsterdoofus 11-02-2009, 08:38 AM We're working on it!
Yay, daylight - glad to see its back up - wanted to make sure others could see that crane.
Any idea what that huge crane is being used for?
Looks like it might be for adding onto the parking garage.

Possibly, although I don't THINK that is supposed to begin until December 1. Unless they are going to go ahead and start early on things like taking off the old trim pieces and such that will be moved up.
I haven't noticed that crane doing much of anything yet, but I can't see the bottom of it.
It's definitely moving...
And you're right, they may be doing a bit of demolition in advance of going upwards with the garage. They already done it elsewhere (like the bridges and stairwell).

Yeah I just noticed it turning a moment a go. It looks like they have some of the south parking spots in the garage blocked off, so they may be doing some things on that side.

:omg: Someone should start a Twitter account of Things Thunder Says. I hear Saxum will do it for $7500.
MadMonk 11-03-2009, 07:44 PM Looks like they're working late tonight.
OKCDrummer77 11-03-2009, 08:23 PM That white van near the south end of the parking garage... I don't think it's moved since construction started, or at least since the camera went up.
okcmomentum 11-03-2009, 08:53 PM If you watch the time lapse from 10/28 the van wasn't there and then it showed up later. All the spots in that garage are assigned so I would imagine you would see the same cars in the same spots everyday.
Dustin 11-03-2009, 11:23 PM Hey MadMonk, what is the song you used in the latest time lapse video? Please and Thank You!
Hawk405359 11-06-2009, 09:08 PM Hey MadMonk, what is the song you used in the latest time lapse video? Please and Thank You!
Well, I'm not him, but I can tell you it's "Hoedown" from the ballet Rodeo, written by Aaron Copland.
It's more famously known as song of the "Beef: It's what's for dinner" campaign.

Exactly right.
okc_bel_air 11-10-2009, 08:55 AM Wow, with the fog and no sun glaring down it gives a real good view of the detail at site.

MadMonk 11-13-2009, 01:01 PM A new cam is up and with a much better quality picture. Who says Friday the 13th is a bad day?
Watson410 11-13-2009, 01:19 PM WOW!! I looked at the cam before i looked at the newest post and thought "Man!! You can see the site really good today!!" Awesome! It looks totally different.
hipsterdoofus 11-13-2009, 01:30 PM very nice!

Nope, no black kittys crossing paths under ladders and over dropped mirrors today. Very nice upgrade!

Thank you!
ronronnie1 11-13-2009, 01:52 PM Awsome! I'm so excited about this, and having the realtime cam is great! I wanna keep myself off this thread for a few months and come back and see the progress. Can't wait!
OKCisOK4me 11-13-2009, 07:42 PM Nnnnooooowwwww, that is a beautiful site!
MadMonk 11-14-2009, 10:12 AM Here's a quick new movie with the better camera on 11/13/09 from 1:00pm to midnight. It looks better when you watch it full screen in high quality.
