okcmomentum 03-19-2010, 07:56 AM Interesting for the employees in MT to watch the new office go up. Thanks
Welcome aboard grizzly! I bet this is nice for employees outside OKC to get to see what's going on with the new building. I'm guessing you all must work in the Bear Paw field?
Looks like OKC will have some Montana winter weather tomorrow!
metro 03-19-2010, 09:42 AM Man, I drove my scooter up to the top of the garage last night. All I can say is that you can respect the size and coordination of this thing, until you're watching it in person from a hundred feet or so away. MASSIVE. They had plywood cutouts for the interior walls laid on the top of the rebar, and were starting to tie in rebar vertically around the cutouts when I was there around 6:15pm last night. I will try to ride up their more regularly and get pics.
possumfritter 03-19-2010, 10:03 AM metro...a pic after the snow stops would be terrific!
metro 03-19-2010, 10:07 AM I'll be in Dallas unfortunately, but if I have time when I get back, I'll see what I can do. Scooters and ice/snow ≠ good idea
Troypin 03-19-2010, 12:45 PM Seems like there getting alot done today before the snow storm.

Yes - I work in the Bear Paw Field. Getting a skiff of snow here but sounds as if you are going to get dumped on. So much for global warming!
possumfritter 03-19-2010, 01:41 PM Scooters and ice/snow ≠ good idea
Hey metro...think Extreme Sports buddy! :LolLolLol
jn1780 03-19-2010, 07:47 PM Looks like they covered everthing up.
Steve 03-19-2010, 08:44 PM Yep, you're right Jn1780. I've been watching it on live streaming. They're doing it pretty rapidly too - almost done.
hipsterdoofus 03-19-2010, 09:18 PM I still thing the whole thing looks strangely like the hatch from LOST
kevinpate 03-19-2010, 11:05 PM I canna wax as well as Steve, whose work I enjoy, but here's a somewhat short version, unless I've overlooked something.
Local forum owner provides ongoing snapshots of largest downtown office project construction in, well, long long time .... no charge.
Numerous forum users add many quality images, again no charge.
A forum member creates stop action vids from time to time, again no charge.
Through it all, a lone white van gets some love from the masses.
Local paper elects to provide streaming video, sooner or later, under visa to view plan, other payment forms also accepted. No word yet if the van, belonging to another publication as it does, will be an island in the stream, or edited out.
:sofa:
Steve 03-19-2010, 11:08 PM You're off on this one, Kevin. Without getting into details, the subscriber wall was needed for reasons other than profit. For what it's worth, I expected someone to raise this issue, so I'm totally cool with you raising it. But please believe me when I say, if profit were the motive here, I'm pretty sure the cam would be open to all, allowing for greater hits on the page to bring in advertisers.
As I pointed out earlier, there are pros and cons with both cams. So yeah, you've overlooked something. Of course, who am I to discourage the conspiracy theories that add so much entertainment to our lives. Gotta be careful not to slip on that wax....
jn1780 03-20-2010, 12:16 AM I still thing the whole thing looks strangely like the hatch from LOST
The Tower is just a cover story. The real purpose is the top secret government bunker.:LolLolLol
ljbab728 03-20-2010, 12:47 AM Absolutely ljbab. As I said, OKC Talk has kind of jumped the gun here a bit, but I'm hoping to get the whole story out soon as to how this will work, etc.
Thanks, Steve. I signed up and now can watch whenever I want. It's great.
possumfritter 03-20-2010, 06:09 AM Got my subscription in this morning.
kevinpate 03-20-2010, 06:57 AM nah, no conspiracy theories here.
Just havin' some fun while sliding in another white van reference.
.oO(guess I shouda used two peeks from behind the couch)Oo.
cdbthunder 03-20-2010, 08:44 AM Steve I am a subscriber to the Oklahoman and logged in to their website but when I go to the Devon cam it says that I must be a subscriber in order to access it. Is there something I am doing wrong ? Thanks for you help.

Never mind Steve, I realized what the problem was when I went to my profile page at NewsOk, I had not entered my acct. #. Once I did that the Devon cam came up, can't wait for the cement pour and watching them choreograph all that.
librmuel 03-20-2010, 09:24 AM Wow,, New to your cam and it is good.. do you know that at 8.0 on sunday is when the first truck of the MAT POUR is to start.. 6400yards.

As I said, no offense taken. No need to hide behind the couch, unless that's something you enjoy doing! I anticipated this question would come up, though I must have missed the original white van reference (I was assuming it was akin to men in black, black helicopters - not sure why).
kevinpate 03-20-2010, 11:19 AM today's 11:13 image is down right purty.
Just the right amount of snow - plenty to cover the dirt and
the drab pavement, but not enough to bury the white van.
flintysooner 03-20-2010, 11:21 AM The Oklahoman live cam doesn't work with my Kindle subscription.
Steve 03-20-2010, 11:25 AM The Oklahoman live cam doesn't work with my Kindle subscription.
Flinty, I don't think we contemplated Kindles in this set-up, and yes, we absolutely should have. Contact webmaster@newsok.com and tell him I advised you to bring this situation to his attention. I don't know if we can resolve it today (hopefully we can), but if not, I'm sure we can get something going Monday. The Devon cam access should be no different than access for subscribers on our archives.
SoonerMac 03-20-2010, 12:00 PM I hear the pour is on a go for tomorrow at 8am...weather permitting.
Jeaux Bleaux 03-20-2010, 01:18 PM Hi Pete! Thanks so much for the picture cam. It doesn't seem to update for me and I suppose it's because it's a jpg posted in the forum thread. In your earlier message, you alluded to a page refresh displaying a more recent pic. Will you have the camera's IP address crosslinked to a forum page so members can see it in real time? Or is someone just capturing images occasionally and posting them in the thread?
Jeaux Bleaux 03-20-2010, 01:23 PM Please disregard earlier post, it's what I get for starting at page 1 instead of 28...
Troypin 03-20-2010, 09:39 PM Are they going to build the second Tower Crane east of the tower soon, at least after the Pour on Sunday?
SoonerMac 03-21-2010, 07:22 AM looks like they are kickin off
kinggober 03-21-2010, 08:35 AM The OKC skyline cam is offline. They better fix this soon!
OK Redneck 03-21-2010, 08:42 AM just for your information there will be 4 tower cranes built.
OK Redneck 03-21-2010, 08:48 AM they will be building 4 tower cranes
dedndcrusr 03-21-2010, 09:09 AM There's plenty of pumper trucks around, but I've yet to see one dolese truck. Have they actually started the pour?
maestro6 03-21-2010, 09:11 AM Skyline cam was working fine this morning until about 7 or 7:15. No clue what happened.
mburlison 03-21-2010, 09:17 AM @#*$@ I subscribed last night just to watch the cam and its offline...
kinggober 03-21-2010, 09:27 AM @#*$@ I subscribed last night just to watch the cam and its offline...
Me too! If they don't have it fixed soon I'm definitely getting a full refund!
Steve 03-21-2010, 09:28 AM Guys, calls have been made. The winter storm may have knocked if offline. Remember, this is an outdoor cam, fixed to the roof of the Oklahoma Tower. We want to see this feed too!
SoonerMac 03-21-2010, 09:41 AM there are concrete trucks on the job...
cdbthunder 03-21-2010, 10:08 AM UUGH ! Where's the cam ?
Is Pete's still up, how do I find it ?
redrunner 03-21-2010, 10:11 AM Page one of this thread.
cdbthunder 03-21-2010, 10:15 AM Thanks Redrunner.
Steve 03-21-2010, 10:38 AM Update: we have everyone involved trying to resolve the live cam.
Steve 03-21-2010, 11:32 AM The live cam feed is restored!
corpsman 03-21-2010, 11:34 AM Yes it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you very much
what crap...i cant believe you have to subscribe to newsok to see the cam
possumfritter 03-21-2010, 11:52 AM what crap...i cant believe you have to subscribe to newsok to see the cam
And you get a newspaper delivered to your door on the days you want it. Pert good deal if you ask me. I subscribed to the Sunday so I can also get store coupons.
jn1780 03-21-2010, 12:04 PM So what time do they expect the pour to be done?
Lauri101 03-21-2010, 01:33 PM As cold as it is - there are people watching from roof of garage!
I'm surprised they are doing it at this temperature - won't that making curing more difficult?
corpsman 03-21-2010, 01:56 PM what crap...i cant believe you have to subscribe to newsok to see the cam
For those of us who are still old fashioned enough to subscribe to the newspaper, it was simply a matter of logging on. Now I don't have to listen to anyone bellyache about how the paper isn't folded back properly, and as has been stated, the paper is now at my door whenever I want to read it. A knothole in the fence plus the Daily Disappointment, heck of a deal.
OKCisOK4me 03-21-2010, 02:19 PM For the 15 or so people that are watching from the parking garage--somebody should have brought a grill. ITS A TAILGATING PARTY!! ;)
Steve 03-21-2010, 02:24 PM I was one of those 15. Yeah, we needed a grill. FYI: At NewsOK (http://www.newsok.com/okcskyline), between 3:50 p.m. and 4 p.m. today we will be zooming in the skyline cam on the Devon tower concrete pour.
emmab12 03-21-2010, 02:28 PM The camera view doesn't do it justice to how many Dolese trucks there actually are moving in and out. It is quite a site to see such an operation being run so well and choreographed to a T. Very impressive.
jmarkross 03-21-2010, 03:04 PM I think freshly poured concrete generates some of it's own heat--does it not? It is around 40 F. out there...
ronronnie1 03-21-2010, 03:28 PM Yes jmarkross. When they built Hoover Dam, they actually brought in giant air conditioning units to cool the concrete. So yeah, concrete gives off heat when it cures. The cool weather will help the process and not hinder it.
When they built Hoover Dam
I also think the Hoover dam was built with piping in it through which the Colorado river flowed and cooled the core much faster. I think what normally would have taken decades to fully cure took a couple of years.

Hey Steve...Could you get the New Subscriptions Department to put an "expedite" on my online subscription? LOL! I'm missing watching todays activities.
Steve 03-21-2010, 03:44 PM possum, email webmaster@newsok.com, tell him you've attempted an online subscription, and ask if you can get temporary access today. I can't guarantee whether this work out, but it's the only avenue I know of on a Sunday. Good luck!
Steve 03-21-2010, 03:45 PM The camera zooms have begun
Cornbear 03-21-2010, 03:52 PM Hot chocolate would have been nice on the roof today. It was a bit cold.
Lauri101 03-21-2010, 03:57 PM The camera zooms have begun
Do the workers know they are being filmed? LOL - hate to have someone embarass himself.
This is so cool to watch!
OKCisOK4me 03-21-2010, 04:10 PM I also think the Hoover dam was built with piping in it through which the Colorado river flowed and cooled the core much faster. I think what normally would have taken decades to fully cure took a couple of years.
Not to continue off topic..but, no. There were tunnels blasted through the rock walls on the sides which had to be large enough to maintain the massive spring melts from the Rockies. Once they opened these, only then did they start pouring block by block sections of cement. Once the dam was completed they piped the overflows into these old tunnels. If you look at some pics from downriver below the dam you will see the outlets of these tunnels with their arcitectural concrete outlets.
I've always been fascinated by Hoover Dam just because of its monstrosity & because it was considered one of the biggest public works projects after the Great Depression.
